It’s Time To Purge The “Experts”

Authored by Wesley Smith via The Epoch Times,

The United States’ military mission in Afghanistan has collapsed in chaos and ignominy. The catastrophe has many parents. But surely “the experts” upon which our leader relied bear much blame.

They were the ones who often failed to comprehend the power of religious belief and the role pride in Islam played in the Taliban’s unyielding commitment to victory. They were the ones who thought we could remake Afghanistan into a western liberal image. They were the ones who failed to comprehend the intractable tribal nature of Afghan society.

To say the least, Afghanistan has vividly exposed the utter stupidity of our vaunted foreign policy and national security experts. Our hapless Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, for example, assured us that Kabul would not fall from “Friday to Monday.” He was right. It fell from Friday to Sunday.

And what are we to make of the vaunted internationalists at the United Nations? After President Biden’s godawful speech signifying nothing, the State Department held a press briefing, during which spokesman Ted Price reiterated an unintentionally hilarious United Nations Security Council statement urging the Taliban government to be “inclusive and representative—including with the full, equal and meaningful participation of women.” I’m sure the barbarians will get right to including women as soon as they are finished raping them.

The hubris of these whizzes might be tolerable if they were adept at technocracy. But they stink at it. Indeed, every American debacle in my lifetime has “the experts’” fingerprints all over it. There was the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Vietnam. The farce of the missing Iraq WMDs. The list goes on and on.

What’s that you say? The Cuban Missile Crisis worked out very well? Indeed, it did. But that was because JFK ignored the advice of military experts to bomb Cuba.

What about the collapse of the Soviet Union? Once again, that salutary event was hastened because President Reagan ignored experts’ widespread disdain of the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) program and forged ahead anyway, which helped break the communists’ treasury.

Look at China. Our China-hand experts were sure that if we boosted the country’s economy the Chinese people would demand increased freedom to go along with their improved standard of living. Not only did that demand not materialize—except in the now crushed Hong Kong citizens’ reaction to the loss of their once existing freedoms—but we are looking increasingly like China instead of it looking more like us.

Worse, we are now dependent on that tyranny for much of our manufacturing and mining of crucial natural resources like rare earth metals.

Great job, experts!

Foreign policy is far from the only field afflicted with debilitating expertitis.

The public health failures during COVID could—and no doubt will—fill several books. But the botched investigations and repeated mendacity surrounding the question of whether the virus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, are particularly enraging—not to mention the U.S. funding of “gain of function” research conducted there championed by Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Speaking of the hubris of the expert class, Fauci wrote last year that WHO and the UN should be empowered to “rebuild the infrastructure of human existence” in order to avoid future pandemics. Considering their repeated record of abject failure, putting the international experts in charge of such an all-encompassing project would probably return us to the caves

And look what has happened in the medical sector where our experts are helping drive the transgender moral panic. Major medical journals and associations even promote puberty blocking for children despite its being, at best, entirely experimental and potentially physically harmful to the patients. Good grief, the American Medical Association even urges that we stop listing the sex of children on birth certificates!

And we haven’t even yet mentioned the misbegotten California public policies recommended by climate change experts that have reduced the once Golden State to a third world environment of rolling blackouts, out-of-control wildfires, and inadequate water storage because no new reservoirs have been built for decades—this, even though the state’s population grew exponentially. Good grief, farmers in the Central Valley have begun plowing under their precious almond trees!

Failure after dismal failure has caused mass distrust in the expert class and a concomitant collapse of confidence in our institutions.

This is a profound crisis. We need expertise. People who know what they are talking about and who can explain complicated issues to policy makers and the people are essential to the proper operation of sophisticated democratic societies.

But to do that job right, experts need to be apolitical. They need to provide as objective advice as they can when wearing their “expert” hats. Most of all, they need to put personal ideology aside in the performance of their duties and welcome heterodox opinions. For example, it wasn’t ideology that created the triumph of the moon landing. It was dispassionate excellence in rocket science and engineering.

The problem is that too many of our current “experts”—in foreign policy, law enforcement, science, education, the medical intelligentsia, the list goes on and on—have become highly politicized. Some even now think they should be deciders rather than advisers. That attitude doesn’t make policy more expertly based, it makes expertise more politically motivated, which is to say, it ceases being expert at all.

Creating a paradigm in which we can again safely rely on experts will require a great culling of the faux specialists now perched in powerful government and think tank sinecures. Frankly, mass resignations or firings may be the only efficacious remedy for what ails us. The time has come for that great sorting out to begin.

The author seems to think we need better advisors for our central planners and I think we do not need central planners. What works in MA, probably does not work in KS and what works in Kansas City probably does not work in Abilene.

Concur. There is a lot of thinking that needs to be shitcanned and anything related to central planning qualifies.

Howdy, TN

“They were the ones who often failed to comprehend the power of religious belief….”

I think the author may be failing to comprehend quite a bit, himself. As do most of us, imho.

The ‘central planners’ behind the oncoming debacle are other worldly, and have been working on it for a loooong time.

“Now the last age by Cumae’s Sibyl sung

Has come and gone, and the majestic roll

Of circling centuries begins anew:

Justice returns, returns old Saturn’s reign,

With a new breed of men sent down from heaven.

Only do thou, at the boy’s birth in whom

The iron shall cease, the golden race arise,

Befriend him, chaste Lucina; ’tis thine own

Apollo reigns”

Thanks, Ordo for the link. I will have to explore more of this site in the coming week. Last Sunday, our pastor’s message was about the Armor of God and Wednesday evening he started a verse-by-verse study of Revelation. He has been talking more and more about the signs and believes we may see the rapture of the Church in our lifetime.

I guess they were leaving them there for the Afghan military. The ones that either ran for the hills or were Talibam members to start with.
There was no winning strategy in Afghanistan. Keep spending money and killing people until the enemy stopped killing U.S. soldiers? Also, another place where the enemy looked like the civilians, no standing army wearing uniforms to fight.
This also points out how freedom fighters can beat the U.S. Gov. Enemies foreign and domestic? for all those people who always point out how many weapons the gov. has versus the population with guns. Unlike many here I was ok with Trump and think the Democrats will be swept from power one way or another.

The states purpose is to rule over its serfdom – that’s what it does. If the state’s experts were to be changed to another set of experts, the states purpose would still be to rule over its serfdom. It is the system that is the issue, tinkering with an expert here or there will do nothing.

This whole holocough business has convinced me how poorly educated Americans are in life sciences. But “trusting experts”? Adults that have matured with their bodies should already know how fallible all the other adults are.

Ken – 2 1/2 generations of children have been “educated” by the left who took over the colleges of education at most universities in the 70’s. They began turning out good little Marxists who went on to become teachers and passed their philosophy on to our children, grand-children and now great-grandchildren. Stalin knew the importance of teaching children when they were young.

I think Anglin has really matured into a fantastic writer. His humor and style might not be apparent to new readers, though. That quote is just a fact anyone with eyes has observed for themselves. I already knew that. I think I have always intuited that. I was never mesmerized by the box or the screen.

I have watched a good many blogger evolve from Conservative Inc. thinking to entertaining there may be “some Jews” to full on understanding the historical context of the “JQ”. The facts speak for themselves, once people go looking for answers.

Anglin’s writing and clarity of vision is flat out astonishing. There is simply no one else who can mix realtalk, sober assessments of where we are, unequaled forecasting of future societal movements, and brutally frank descriptions of current culture.

He has risen above his former shtick of larping for laughs. He is perhaps the greatest living commentator left on the web.

Anyone who wants to see society for what it is and where it is going should read him on a daily basis.

Anyone who wants to see society for what it is and where it is going should read Augusto Del Noce’s “The Crisis of Modernity,” a collection of his essays.

Coming from a philosophical and religious background, he foretold many things decades before they occurred, such as him around 1970 seeing homosexual “marriage” a sure development.
His last essay before his death in December 1989 was titled ‘Marxism Died in the East Because It Realized Itself in the West.’

Talk about prescient – I know nobody who comes even close to his clear-sightedness.
But he will turn most of your worldview upside-down, for the better.

Years ago I had this book, The Amateurs? I think it was by Michal Malkin? anyways it talked about how under team Obama they had a lot of professor types who had never held a real job or had a clue about how to do anything. Sounds familiar? I keep seeing one bad idea after another pushed by our Gov. I figure they wish to overload our system to bring it down and replace it with the great reset(communism) This is something out of rules for radicals. Or I could be wrong and they’re just all idiots.
Eventually, if public officials push their insane thinking too far they will be dealt with. At least where I live at. For now, things are going pretty well where I live. many tourists and everything is wide open with no masks required and the weather has been great.

That’s true; but does anyone else notice that the MSM actually ask questions of these “experts” on this subject? It may be true that they ask inane questions that miss the point most of the time (they are, after all, journalists — not the deepest thinkers); but they ask.

How DARE they!!!

Why do the “experts” on this, and any other, topic not simply tell the media to “trust the experts” (experts including our addle-pated (p)Resident) and then call an end to the press conference (and all future press conferences)?

There is more to the Afghanistan debacle than meets the eye, but I haven’t figured out what it is yet. It is true that Biden is a senile idiot, but he isn’t in charge of what is going on, other than what flavor of ice cream he gets. I doubt that he even KNOWS what is going on. The decision for the “withdrawal” from Afghanistan was made by the same Deep State handlers and operatives who make most important decisions. None of them have any principled objections to occupying Afghanistan, and by leaving they are giving up MIC defense profits and much money from the heroin. There has to be a good reason for that. One possibility is that they are making a case to remove Biden via the 25th Amendment. This possibility is supported by the fact that the NWO/Deep State has allowed or instructed the MSM to turn against him. Another possibility is that they want a big distraction from something else, possibly the scamdemic tyranny or something else yet to come. One other possibility is that it somehow fits into the NWO plans for the upcoming 20th anniversary of 9/11, but I don’t know what those plans are. Possibly another false flag attack. We will find out in 3 weeks.
