There are many ways to mask inflation. Notice how small candy bars are getting these days or how much more compact cereal boxes have become….etc etc.

https://www.officialdata.org/us/inflation/2019?amount=100

$100 in 2019 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $106.78 today, an increase of $6.78 over 2 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 3.34% per year between 2019 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 6.78%.

This means that today’s prices are 1.07 times higher than average prices since 2019, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index. A dollar today only buys 93.65% of what it could buy back then.

The 2019 inflation rate was 1.76%. The current year-over-year inflation rate (2020 to 2021) is now 5.37%1. If this number holds, $100 today will be equivalent in buying power to $105.37 next year. The current inflation rate page gives more detail on the latest inflation rates.

Ah, yes, the (((official))) inflation rate…
Like Texas Hold’em, I match your rate…and raise it three fold, to get the true rate of 12%….
Like the following poster states…

Shrinkflation is my favorite! Young’uns probably won’t remember 3 pound coffee cans, 1 pound potato chip bags, gallons and half gallons of ice cream. And the list goes on!

A lot of COSTCO’s products are are reduced in quantity as you demonstrated or are reduced in quality which you have to comb thru the piles to insure. The steaks (NYstrip) are tasteless with poor marbling or they are run thru with other fat like substances. Additionally you go expecting to pick up products that are there all the time until all of a sudden they are not available or on line only. Some of these like the Costco coffee is available on Amazon.com. Why should I go to cost co then?

You cannot buy appliances and high value electronics every trip and think you are getting over like a big dog.

In the past, one of the reasons I had a Costco membership was because of the superior quality of their NY Strip steaks. They used to be restaurant quality and very thick. The last time I bought them (about 6 months ago before I let my membership expire) they were like you said. Definitely disappointing.
I’ll never bother to renew my membership again. Plus, they are a leftist company.

Works out OK because in 2021 I give way less of a shit than I did in 2020.

They didn’t hide the change. That label is several inches by several inches. They even changed the outer packaging so one could tell that something changed.

And by the way, COSTCO didn’t do the SCREWING……THE FED DID!
