SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

Happy Columbus Day – USA

Happy Thanksgiving – Canada

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Mahler: 5. Sinfonie ∙ hr-Sinfonieorchester ∙ Andrés Orozco-Estrada

We did his third and his 6th so now let’s do his 5th.

hr-Sinfonieorchester – Frankfurt Radio Symphony

Samuel Seidenberg, Horn

Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Dirigent

Alte Oper Frankfurt

10, Märch 2017

The Red Rose Cafe

This Sunday is Andre Rieu time again, though with a different touch. Andre draws exceedingly large crowds all over the world, and often tailors his music to his crowd, as we shall see today.

We’ll kick it off with a piece titled “The Red Rose Cafe.”

Andre and his Johann Strauss Orchestra really work the crowd in his native Maastricht, The Netherlands.

Snow Waltz

Next up is Andre playing “Snow Waltz.”

His JSO has quite a few characters in it, and they are not only very talented, but very funny at times.

The Skater’s Waltz

And now, for some more great music and fun we’ll hear “The Skater’s Waltz.”

As always, Andre spares no expense.

That’s Amore

Lastly. we shall hear a famous song composed by Harry Warren and lyricist Jack Brooks, which became a signature piece for Dean Martin in 1953.

The song is titled “That’s Amore,” or sometimes, “The Eel Song.”

As always, we hope that you have enjoyed this, and have a great Sunday.

Mischa Maisky plays Bach Cello Suite No.1 in G (full)

And as you know I love Bach:

Mozart: Symphony No. 35, ‘Haffner’

Multi-award-winning conductor Bernard Haitink leads the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

They perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Haffner Symphony.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed the Symphony No. 35 in D major, K. 385, known as the Haffner Symphony, in 1782. As early as 1776 he had been commissioned to compose a serenade for the wedding of the Salzburg bridal couple Franz Xaver Späth and Maria Elisabeth Haffner, the daughter of Salzburg’s mayor Sigmund Haffner.

The Haffner Serenade is Mozart’s most extensive serenade (KV 250) and has eight movements.

Six years later, he was to compose another serenade on the occasion of the award of the title of nobility “Edler von Innbachhausen” to Sigmund Haffner Junior. Mozart arranged it as a symphony by omitting the movements 2 to 4 or 5 of the serenade composed for Haffner’s wedding, thus creating an independent work.

00:49 Allegro con spirito
09:25 Andante
15:33 Menuetto
18:33 Presto
