One story I read claimed Baldwin was ranting about Trump and waving the gun around when it went off. As Karl points out it appears the gun was deliberately pointed at the woman and the trigger pulled which is not an accident.
Ahhh some beautiful American made Henry rifles right there. Nothing beats a lever action rifle. When the SHTF and we are having to ward off the zombies (no longer a fictitious entity), my go to rifle will be a lever action. Screw those plastic guns.

The really scary part is somebody either intentionally or ignorantly brought that loaded prop firearm to the set or loaded it on the set knowing it was to be used in the film to point at and fire at another person.
I’m sure there are plenty of organizations dealing with animal or environmental issues that are present when making movies. The NRA should be present when movies that involve firearms are made, too. That should piss them off sufficiently.

Multiple stories floating around the media and internet. David Halls was an AD on The Crow when Brandon Lee was killed in a firearms ‘incident. Crew had walked off set a few hours before the shooting as a gun had been ‘accidently’ fired 2 or 3 times the day before and they were worried about safety. They were allegedly replaced by a non-union crew.
The armourer was a young woman of 24 and this was only her 2nd film where she was in charge of guns. From what I’ve read you can easily tell the difference between blanks and real ammunition so it should have been clear what she was loading. There were apparently 3 guns put out on a table for the scene in an ‘Old West’ style church. The AD handed the gun to Baldwin and announced it was cold. Apparently in these scenes it is unusual for there to be crew behind the camera. They usually stand to the side behind a monitor not in the ‘direct line of fire’ or the actor aims to the side and editing makes it look like the gun fired in a specific direction.
The media keeps referring to a prop but a prop gun doesn’t take or fire bullets. Current ‘exclusive’ in the Dail Mail is that it was an antique Colt not a prop gun. The bullet hit the deceased in the chest and passed through and into the shoulder of the wounded man. One thing you can say for certain is that there are a lot of strange questions that need answers and the internet is doing the usual attempt to fill in the gap.
May well be the end of his career. As the film was about an accidental murder it may not even be finished now. Life imitating art? There will be a civil suit and maybe criminal charges for whoever is deemed liable for the death of the cinematographer and wounding the Director of Photography.

Know before hand what you are dealing with and act accordingly.
The report from blank cartridges at very close range can cause serious injury or possibly worse.

The Four Fundamentals Of Gun Safety were not followed and one person is dead
and another wounded. No matter who said what about the weapon, it was
incumbent on Baldwin to confirm the status of the “cold” gun.
It’s 100% his fault and at a minimum he should face trial for negligent homicide.
