I watched the fighter-bomber gun cameras during Vietnam, they played them for us to pump up our morale, but instead they made me sick to my Soul; my fellow pilots jumped up and cheered when a Vietnamese farmer, a guy like me, was napalmed; I hated being among those barbarians. I did not want to ever be guilty of napalming a little girl like the one photographed running down a dirt road from her village that an American fighter bomber had just napalmed. I hated my “Democrat” government for the hypocrisy of killing people in Vietnam for having a communist government; but America had a communist government forcing communism on Americans at home with the 1964 Civil Riots Act and the Great Society discriminating against White males, Conservatives and Christians. If you don’t know it has gotten much much worse since then, you are a useless idiot. I feel that soldier’s shame. Why should I care what the first modern war criminal would blabber, to whitewash his legacy?
Sherman hated war so much he had to form the peace corps and go out West to help the Native Americans.
“War criminal” is too gentle a description for such a monster.
I’m Southern and my family, which fought the damn Yankees, paid a heluva’ price in poverty and loss of property after the defeat of the CSA.
That said , I’m also a student of history and so I say that Sherman was on of the best Generals and greatest tacticians that ever lived. Lee could have learned some lessons form Sherman. The problem with the South was that officers were generally selected from the monied elite (i.e. slave holders and sellers), many of whom had overblown egos and personal rivalries. Many thought they were noble born and should be treated as royalty instead of soldiers.
The CSA could have used more dirt common street fighters like Grant and Sherman.
Sherman’s memoirs are an outstanding read.

Gen Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Great General during the war and leader during Reconstruction. Sherman’s men destroyed my Grandmother’s Grandparent’s farm and stole every scrap of food; her Grandfather starved to death as a result. If TSHTF and I’m still able to fight, I want to apply some of the Art of War Lessons Sherman taught us Southerners to our tormenters (liberals).

They took all of us downstairs and we had to stand on our own little red circle drawn on the ground, drop our trousers, and spread the cheeks for inspection. In today’s military environment, that act alone should be worth an Army Commendation Medal.
