What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Abstract
The recently identified, globally predominant SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant (BA.1) is highly transmissible, even in fully vaccinated individuals, and causes attenuated disease compared with other major viral variants recognized to date. The Omicron spike (S) protein, with an unusually large number of mutations, is considered the major driver of these phenotypes. We generated chimeric recombinant SARS-CoV-2 encoding the S gene of Omicron in the backbone of an ancestral SARS-CoV-2 isolate and compared this virus with the naturally circulating Omicron variant. The Omicron S-bearing virus robustly escapes vaccine-induced humoral immunity, mainly due to mutations in the receptor binding motif (RBM), yet unlike naturally occurring Omicron, efficiently replicates in cell lines and primary-like distal lung cells. In K18-hACE2 mice, while Omicron causes mild, non-fatal infection, the Omicron S-carrying virus inflicts severe disease with a mortality rate of 80%.

Let us know what you decide. Usually the 1st one wins and Scout is a great name for a pup

But then, Archimedes is rather long to sew on a Christmas stocking…

A friend of mine heard about a family who had adopted this puppy, but then lost their job right afterwards and needed to rehome the puppy ASAP. It’s never a good idea to give someone a pet as an unexpected gift, but they thought I needed this puppy in my life right now. I’m glad I have him now. He is PURE JOY!!

Ha…my dad brought a puppy home as a Christmas gift. One of his coworkers was giving six of the litter away. My mom gave dad death stares because she had two kids under the age of two years old. One was under the age of three months old. Now she had a two month old puppy to add. Puppy brought joy.

Glad the puppy who will have a name in the future is bringing you joy, AA.

“Mowgli”, from Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Story.

One time (2015), mom-cat had four kittens. We were out of country on vacation, so the grown kids named them:
Charles Darwin (‘Charlie’),
Mowgli,
Principessa Butterscotch (now just ‘Butter’), and
Harvie Dent (from Batman, a tortie, now just ‘Harvie’, or ‘Dolce Harvie’), the runt of the litter, once, but no longer.

Time came to choose which one stayed with us. Wife wanted Butterscotch, daughter wanted Charlie, and because I was always one to root for the undercat, I wanted to keep Harvie, but there was NO WAY I was going to just give up Mowgli. I finally had to make a command decision and told my wife “you get one choice”, told my daughter “you get one choice”, and told both of them that I got two choices! We kept all four.

Mowgli stayed on my mom’s deathbed like an angel watching over her. Unfortunately, Mowgli went out one day exactly six months after birth and never came back (coyotes? an eagle? Never found a trace even after hunting forever).

The other three made a transatlantic flight at 2-1/2 yrs old and now live in Italy with us, and probably are now all sleeping on the brand-new couch that my wife thinks she can persuade them to stay off of for ANY amount of time. Looks like a horizontal scratching-post to me! I’ll get over it.

That is a great story (except for losing Mowgli). Love all those names for the kittens.

I really like the name Mowgli for a pet, but I have a family member who has a dog by that name. Dang! They got it first.

Hi Abigail,
We have spoken before, albeit ‘anonymous’-ly, on a different post. Thank you for your thoughts. ‘Mowgli’ seems like a GREAT name, at least to me, and I’m glad that others in your family think likewise.

The other three “kittens” (ie-“cats”, now that they are all 7-1/2 years old) and [almost] speaking Italian (“Miao” instead of “Meow”) as well as I do (which ‘some’ might question) have acclimated to Italian life, as I might do one day. Alas.
Cheers.

The war on cancer is a scam that has been going on for generations. A vaccine will make Big Pharma rich beyond measure but, in the end, the most important weapon we have against cancer is natural prevention remember the old saying an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Nothing could be more true than with a disease like cancer. Prevention is everything and it can be achieved with changes in life style and by taking the measures necessary to support a super strong immune system. The chief cause of cancer today is diet though. Through proper feeding of our microbiome we can insure that our system will maintain homeostasis and will not be prone to cancer.
