The Russell Brand “Investigation”

Via Off-Guardian

The Russell Brand scandal is big news right now. And by “big news” I mean it is quite literally the front-page story in every major newspaper in the UK…

…that level of media coordination is weird in and of itself.

I mean, we’re in a time of war, pestilence and famine. And while “celebrity sex scandals” may be interesting to Daily Mail editors they’re not exactly a Horseman of the Apocalypse.

Honestly, most of the time OffG would probably have dismissed this story as tabloid nonsense not worth discussing, but the sheer amount of noise surrounding this story means there must be more to it. A deeper level worth investigating.

The Man

Briefly, because you likely already know most of it. Russell Brand is a British comedian, actor and TV presenter who as has re-invented himself as an alternate media voice/political activist via his YouTube channel. He was an outspoken critic of the Covid19 narrative, most especially the “vaccines”.

His notoriety is such that many don’t entirely trust him, labelling him a “shill”.

Without taking a position either way, it should be noted that he went on Bill Maher’s show and told nothing but the truth…

The truth doesn’t stop being true because it comes out of the mouth of a shill, and the more people that hear those facts the better. At the same time, that he was provided that platform at all is curious.

Either way, now he’s been accused of rape and sexual assault.

The Allegations

The accusations came about thanks to a “joint investigation” by several media outlets, and were aired on Channel 4’s “Dispatches” documentary series on Sunday night. The alleged incidents all took place between 10 and 15 years ago, the accusers themselves are anonymous and were voiced by actresses in the documentary.

Brand denied the accusations vehemently and completely in a video on his YouTube channel.

As is the way of these things, it’s now become a feeding frenzy. Every celebrity, however minor, is coming forward with their “Russell Brand is a dickhead” story, while newspaper editors have tasked interns with poring over every second of footage of Brand to find potentially “offensive” content.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police not one person has come forward to officially accuse Brand of any crime, and no investigations are taking place.

UPDATE: It was announced just minutes ago that the Met police are investigating another allegation, this time from 2003.

The Response

Literally everyone is talking about it, in very predictable ways.

The people that hated Brand already, that objected to his Covid skepticism or criticism of the mainstream media, are all jumping at the chance to call him a sexual predator.

While the people who agree with him already are claiming it’s all a set up. That he’s being targeted by the same media he rails against in his videos.

We  – as usual – are declining the invited binary, while pointing out that the law requires people to be assumed innocent until proven guilty

…so what’s the plan?

That’s really the most interesting point on which to speculate. As always, the story of the story is the story. What is the point here? The allegations, the fall out, the media storm, they serve a purpose…but what?

Prima facie, they serve the same end as anonymous accusations throughout time. Brand, whatever you think of him, holds (or claims to hold) minority opinions frowned upon by the establishment, and discrediting the man discredits the message. That’s basic, see the Julian Assange “rape” accusations as another recent example.

There’s a flipside to this. By attacking Brand with (so far) very weak ammunition, the establishment could be trying to increase his anti-establishment bona fides. By treating him as a threat they get cast a sort of proxy vote for leader of the opposition. After all, there’s no doubt this will increase his support in certain circles.

More subtle, long term thinking, could see a full discrediting of the man and his supporters, by presenting a weak case which is immediately refuted, only to follow it up with stronger evidence and/or a confession from Brand himself. This would taint his message and hurt the credibility of anyone who supported him, whilst boosting the credentials of mainstream “journalism”.

More generally, they do have a society to control.

It hasn’t happened yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Brand were to lose his YouTube channel over this (in the current climate it’s very odd it survived Covid intact, to be honest). This would further the push towards “moral” censorship and the spread of “deplatforming” and cancel culture.

This has knock on effects for other critics of the mainstream, too. Seeing someone so famous brought low by this kind of seemingly contrived “scandal” could frighten other potential dissenting voices into keeping quiet.

You may have noticed, but our society has gone mad.

From race to sex to Covid everything has become an opportunity to both signal your own virtues and denounce the sins of your neighbours. This atmosphere of suspicion is very useful to the powers-that-be, but the fervid Crucible-like atmosphere that has been carefully nurtured needs to be sustained with a careful feeding of divisive hot-button news.

More practically, a slow and steady erosion of the idea of presumed innocence is helpful to aspiring tyrants everywhere. And it’s always good to normalise Orwellian unpersoning and rewriting of history.

As one of OffG’s commenters pointed out this morning, there’s also a potentially interesting tie-in to the UK’s upcoming “Online Harms Bill”:

The Russell Brand thing turns out to be even more than first appears. The whole concerted plot was easy to spot a mile off but the repercussions go much deeper.

The government are now asking Youtube (Google) to self censor as they can take RB et al. off MSM but they can’t (Yet) restrict Youtube content. Mark my words this will give the “online harms bill” a new impetus and the comparison with Jimmy Savile welds the evil transgressor image in people’s minds, much like the sinister “denier” label.
Clutching at straws

As they highlight, the comparisons of Brand to Savile are currently everywhere. Which is absolutely bizarre,  because even if Brand is guilty as accused…there’s a world of difference between that and supposed pedophilic necrophilia.

Whatever comes out, the simple truth is that the entire media machine is churning out material on this story. And that doesn’t happen unless there’s a rollout on the way.

But what do you think?

  • Do you trust Russell Brand?
  • Do you think he is a “shill”?
  • Do you believe the accusations?
  • Is it just a cliché witch-hunt?
  • Is there more to it?
  • Will he be kicked off YouTube?
  • Will there be a criminal charge?
  • How will this impact the alternative media in general?
  • Will it impact the passing of the Online Harms Bill?

Yes, I’m quite sure he was a little devil in his day but that has passed.
If you go digging for dirt you’ll find everyone has a pile hidden somewhere.
I’ll subscribe to RB just to poke a finger in the eye of the MSM.

I find it intersting how many of their sacred cows they are willing to slaughter in order to push this story.

Women are equal, empowered, liberated, blah, blah, blah. Yet they are incapable of either accepting responsibility for their actions, or of defending themselves from an androgynous and wifty nonce.

Everyone in show business knew about his sexual exploits and went out of their way in order to protect women around him, yet they continued to promote his career, work with him, publicize his performances and programs and otherwise make sure he was protected from any of these “commonly known” behaviors.

Women are not men. While they certainly deserve all of the same legal protections and ennumerated rights of men, no reasonable person would ever agree that they are equals, either physically, or rationally. How many men would allow themselves to be raped or sexually assaulted and then spend the next three months going back to the rapists hotel for more? What kind of mother would drive her 16 year old daughter over to Russell Brand’s place and drop her off for overnight visits if they knew the kind of things about him that he openly talked about in every one of his public performances? It simply makes no logical sense in the context of these narratives.

I listened to what the women had to say- or at least the actresses who portrayed the women in the video- and I found them to be pathetically implausible. Women are drawn to celebrity like moths to a flame. In every case they allowed themselves to be alone with a guy who jokes about rough sex openly, onstage. None of this occurred in some dark alley after being struck over the head with a baseball bat, it happened in his apartment or a hotel room and it kept happening as long as they kept going back. What would a sane person make of this kind of behavior? Stockholm Syndrome? They were fans and they wanted some experience to tell their friends about or to use in order to be in those kinds of environments where every door is opened, the best champagne is served, where other celebrities might show up so they can rub shoulders with them.

Everyone knows what this is. No one doubts that the stories they are telling are probably true with the exception of their victimhood. If you decide you are going to bang some dude you’re not married to the odds of you being dumped are almost 100%. Sexual adventures are available to women who want to exercise their agency, but with that freedom comes an equal measure of responsibility for what comes along with it. And if you are put in a position where you decide you don’t want to continue you have the same freedom to exit through the same door you entered. If you are physically overpowered and assualted against your will, there is a police station one every corner once you have managed to extricate yourself from his grasp. Did that happen? No, it did not.

In the modern era the accusations are the sentence. Justice is no longer a factor, considerations like statutes of limitations and evidence are immaterial, it is the smear that serves as punishment whether a crime occurred or not. And virtually every single person who reads this comment knows precisely why it happened at this point in time rather than when the alleged outrages took place, when they could more easily have been proven and if true adjudicated.

I can’t find anything in your comment to disagree with.

The alleged incidents all took place between 10 and 15 years ago, the accusers themselves are anonymous and were voiced by actresses in the documentary.

Women crying rape when they were willing participants is a story as old as the hills. All that does is dilute the stories of women who are actually raped.

The problem is women and men who have a problem keeping their pants on. Women put themselves in a position to invite this kind of bad behavior from men. I don’t care if that is victim blaming. Sometimes the victims should take some of the blame. There are consequences for that kind of behavior. Always. Whether it’s internal or external or both. Now the relationships between men and women are so damaged I’m not sure they can be fixed.
Oh and another thing. If they were really raped, then why did they wait 10 or more years to come forward. I thought there was a statute of limitations on everything except murder. And does he not get the chance to see who his accusers are? I don’t even like Brand. He always hit me as kind of slimy. But I do like men in general and this kind of thing can be used against anyone at anytime just to take someone down.

And in a stunning development to no one with an IQ above room temperature-

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12534431/YouTube-stops-Russell-Brand-making-money-channel-rape-allegations.html

Under the terms of his suspension Brand – whose net worth has been estimated between £15million and £40million – will still be allowed to post videos on the platform but will not receive any of the advertising revenue.

YouTube said in a statement: ‘If a creator’s off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community. This decision applies to all channels that may be owned or operated by Russell Brand.’

Let that sink in. If a creator’s off platform behavior harms users, employees or the ecosystem- ECOSYSTEM?- then he will no longer be able to profit from advertising revenue.

They will, because, well, just because.

If you harm YouTube users, then all your moneys are belong to us.

I can’t take any of these accusations seriously. He began his career as an MTV VJ and women used to throw themselves at him. Everybody knows about his man whore days. His reputation was so well known many of his early acting parts were based on poking fun of himself.

My grandmother once told me that 95% of all rape claims were bullshit. She said most men struggle to find the spot when you are helping them, there is no chance of them ever hitting a moving target…. The statement shocked me at the time, but as I have grown older I have realized she probably was right….

Eh, not really. A woman is more likely to get raped will under the influence. Either having too much to drink and not being of sound mind to give consent or being slipped the date rape drug. It’d be very easy to rape a woman who’s passed out.

Being drugged is one thing, but getting drunk is something else. I knew someone who got drunk and robbed a convenience store of a case of beer, and swore he had no memory of it, which did not prevent him from being convicted of it. A lot of people get drunk and do not remember what they did, but that does not mean they did not do it of the own will. It also makes them a very questionable victim/witness.
The bottom line though is guys like Brand who are famous and great looking have women throwing themselves at him left and right. It makes absolutely no sense that he would be desperate enough to do something like that. Much more likely that someone got their feelings hurt because they were just another one night stand, and had their pipe dream shattered. Scorned women can be ruthless.

Brutal rape is all too real, but it’s not white guys doing it,

I personally knew a young school teacher whose car broke down at a corner convenience sore as she was passing though boo town and instead of getting help from the foo foos loitering there she was brutally raped and left naked for dead. She can no longer function on a social or professional level. Do one of your wigger raps on that.

These sources requested anonymity because they fear retaliation.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/pkaqvn/tim-ballards-departure-from-operation-underground-railroad-followed-sexual-misconduct-investigation

“Several weeks ago, an OUR employee who accompanied Tim on an undercover operation filed a sexual harassment complaint against him with OUR’s HR department,” the letter, which was sent this summer to donors to anti-trafficking causes, reads. “This resulted in an extensive internal investigation into Tim and his individual operational tactics and led to more women speaking up as part of the investigation process.

These incidents appear to be more recent, and also there seems to be some smoke here so it could be true.

I really don’t like this pile-on tactic they’ve been using against people. That’s not how the court system is suppose to operate.

When Ron Jeremy asked for his accusers to be tried separately all of sudden he was given a psyche evaluation, found to be too incompetent to stand trial, and has been committed at a psychiatric hospital for the past year.

Danny Masterson was given 30 years after a mistrial didn’t get the outcome they wanted the first time. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis letters to the judge were made public and they were targeted for supporting their friend. They dug up old footage of Ashton Kutcher and twisted it to make him look like he was preying on his underage co-stars 20 years ago and the media attacked him until he stepped down from his sex trafficking organization.

Now, I don’t know the guilt or innocence of any of these people but these lawfare/media tactics are shady AF.

Ron Jeremy – utterly disgusting porn jew
Danny Masterson – scientologist married into creepy family (mamas and the papas), actor incapable of not acting like an asshole
Ashton Kutcher – married a much older woman, kabbalist and israel lover, later married …
Mila Kunis – ugly jew, with creepy hollywood abuse connections like everyone

While I would like for some of these people to not be traffickers or pests, maybe you should more carefully compile your list

The court system is shit and has been shit for centuries.

The accusations were events that happened 10 to 15 years ago when Brand was heavy into drugs. He was a popular actor/VJ and was party central where women threw themselves at him. If the accusations had any credibility they would have come out 10 to 15 years ago when it happened.
