US facing military recruitment crisis – NYT

The US Army, Navy and Air Force are facing shortfalls in recruitment targets this year, as the Pentagon struggles to compete with civilian employment, while up to 77% of young people have been deemed ineligible to enlist, the New York Times said on Tuesday.

By the end of its recruitment year on September 30, the US Army fell short of its target of adding 65,000 people to its ranks, the NYT says, instead ending up with about 50,000 new personnel. It is the third successive year that the army has not met its goal, prompting military bosses to cut unfilled positions and shrink its active duty membership to 452,000 from 485,000 in 2021.

The recruitment logjam has created “an existential issue for us,” Army Secretary Christine E. Wormuth told reporters this month, even as some branches of the military relax recruitment standards and even offer financial compensation of up to $75,000 to join.

US indicts ex-soldier for offering defense secrets to China US indicts ex-soldier for offering defense secrets to China

Primary factors in the stalled recruitment effort include many Americans seeking employment in the private civilian sector, as well as large sections of US youth being deemed ineligible to even apply. A recent report by the US Department of Defense concluded that up to 77% of young people in the United States cannot enlist for a variety of reasons, including being overweight, drug abuse, or having physical or mental impairments.

The US Navy also fell short by about 7,500 hires this year, despite recruitment initiatives, including financial incentives. Even the Air Force, traditionally considered an attractive destination for new recruits, added about 10% less than expected.

“It’s been getting harder to recruit, and the military expects it to continue to get harder,” David R. Segal, a University of Maryland professor who studies historical enlistment trends, said according to the NYT.

However, one US military branch not experiencing such issues is its Marine Corps. By the September 30 deadline, the Marines had already exceeded its goal of 28,900 enlistments – and did so with little-to-no extra perks or financial incentives.

“Your bonus is that you get to call yourself a Marine,” a Marine Corps commandant said earlier this year, according to the Times. “That’s your bonus.” (RT)

Maybe young folks don’t want to be tools for the establishment and be involved in dumb unnecessary wars. The woke crap and covid vax mandate is another issue. I do still run into enlisted personnel who are okay with how things are going for them in the military.

How can you have any pudding if your grinder has no meat?

Having recently been around a dotmil area what struck me the most, aside from the obvious diversities – most notably fat blaq chix, is what might be called ‘regular’ forces, aka makework McArmy jobs, are not visibly different from the general population of soymales, fats, fags, and trainwreck split-tails.

Whatever sort of physical standards you might think are part of recruiting and ‘basic’ training, they are most certainly bending those toward non-existent already.

Typical dotgov would be to have high standards on paper, only to then create hundreds of waivers and exemption programs to actually fill out the ranks. I’d reckon half are still on some special fatty waiver just given the obvious that one single pull-up would be out of reach.

According to a friend who runs training in one of the elite units they DQ newbies on physical standards alone some multiple of years past. And those are among the men who are already operating in regular Army.

Normally I root for the decline of fedgov, but its a bit hollow when considering the ‘well regulated militia’ out here in 2A brush country is no different. I curse the Mountain Dew and Cheetos of DollarGen Amerika. For all those here who are working to shed the caloric reserves of sedentary life, Godspeed! Aside from the LGBTQIA+ people, I really pity the people who think the US military is their best option. It may be their best option. Not everyone can drive for GrubHub or Uber Eats. Once the economy really shits the bed, they may see their recruitment numbers rise. I certainly hope not. Anything would be better than putting your life at the disposal of the psychopaths who run this country.

I always felt that a fringe benefit to TPTB who offshored alot of industrial jobs starting 30-40 years ago was to leave the military as one of the only viable career options for many young people. Sort of a softly-compelled draft.

Perhaps young people and their parents who served have realized their military service is not to protect the borders of their own country; it’s to be sent to other continents to fight wars for other countries. They’ve seen their brothers in arms be killed and maimed, only to return home to find their service unappreciated and marginalized, with nothing to show for decades of fighting.

The military allowing weirdos and degenerates in who are clearly unfit for military duties is just one more reason for those who would traditionally join the military to stay away.

Let Janet Yellen, Lindsay Graham, Ben Shapiro and all those calling for war send themselves or their kids to serve in the infantry, not in the Air Force, Reserves or some BS desk job like Pete Buttigieg. If they’re so confident going to war abroad is a good idea, let them have some actual skin in the game.

Depending how stupid the powers are – and they look like 50 IQ sub-retards at this point – the end of the USA empire could be only months away. The end of the USSR showed up totally out of nothing in a few short months too, btw.

I think the “green flag” in Israel was meant to be that. Nut n’yahoo said as much. Too few people are buying it, and the ones who are buying it are Boomers and ancients.

Millennials and Gen Z have no sympathy and no interest in going off to fight and die for Israel. Most of them are struggling to survive financially and just hoping they might one day be able to get married and buy a small house.

Any attempt at a draft will produce a violent revulsion from the age ranges who would be subject to it. Probably strongest among the black population, but spread across virtually all races. Summer of ’20 repeat combined with zero people showing up for military training.

I never raped anyone … in any situation …

Somehow I was a non-combatant … even during the time I was in. I was heavily involved with training troops and with the Marine Corps’ top secret weapons experiments in the States …

General Smedley Butler was — and, hopefully still is — a Marine worthy of praise and of emulation … we have had our share of heroes of all kinds …

That said, I don’t believe in any of the ‘wars’ our Nation has begun whether to protect financial assets of the MIC/BigCorporate folks, certainly not to have anything to do with or for our arch-enemy israel, and, of course, none of the wars we’ve entered into to pursue our part in the global drug growing, harvesting and sales … We The People deserve better and should settle for nothing less from our fighting men and women nor should we ever put them in harm’s way unless our own borders are under attack (like our southern one has been for the past 60+ years).

I earned the right to wear the Eagle, Globe and Anchor … and I’m still proud to be a United States Marine …

Of course our entire military is an embarrassment on many levels … and the Marine Corps, even the last branch to fall into that cesspool, still fell into it …

That said … I’ve also run into some recent Marines who were still proud of their being Marines … and that’s something we find in common with each other across the generations. I even met a WW2 Marine veteran … saw the hat with the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on it … and that’s an instant comaraderie that opens up a common line of communication. Sure, in the great scheme of things that’s not truly important … but it’s more than a lot of folks find in their daily lives.

The Marines never left me … they were pushed and shoved by the top brass in the government into their woke bullshit … and, from what I’ve heard and read about it, they fought as long as they could to prevent it.

Coast Guard Turns Eye Toward Recruitment, Retention as It Misses Goals
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/07/18/coast-guard-turns-eye-toward-recruitment-retention-it-misses-goals.html

“Data provided by the Coast Guard shows the service has not met its recruiting goals since 2018, falling short an average of 20% each year from 2019 through 2021.”
“We … need to get after policies that have served us well but do not continue to serve as well as we move forward in a way that is reflective of society and the work that we are asking our workforce to do,” Fagan told the panel members.”

“The Coast Guard’s recruitment goals include 25% women and 35% from racial minority groups.”

That was their recruitment goal when I was in 1974- 1978, they still haven’t hit it. Those new policies she is talking about won’t help, more than likely they will slow recruitment even more.

Women and our two largest minorities have little to no interest in being sailors; film at 11!

The clot-shot debacle will not soon be forgotten, and is likely a huge issue even if people aren’t talking about it.

What’s more, in the military branches plus USCG, you can’t quit if the job sucks, you are stuck in for a term of years. As they fail to meet recruiting goals the remaining people are more and more and MORE overworked, until their lives suck and they start failing at basic duties – for which they will get punished. This has been a major US Navy issue for close to a decade (along with all their women being diversity hires with little ability or motivation to do navy things). You would be a complete idiot to sign on for a 4-year (etc.) term of service with an understaffed branch that keeps missing recruiting goals, because your time will suck worse than usual, and you may not get to leave after the set term.

In happier times the .gov would improve pay and working conditions for the military to compensate for this and get back towards a sustainable staffing approach, but in current times that isn’t viable, even with a declining civilian job market.
