As the Israel-Hamas war sparks fears of WW3, law-abiding Americans are streaming the chaos in Israel and Gaza on their smartphones or smart TVs and have come to one conclusion: It’s time to panic buy ammo (just like during Covid).
New data from the ammo tracking website Ammo Prices Now shows 5.56×45mm NATO caliber ammunition listed online by popular brands has surged 39% in the past week, from .36 per round on Oct. 14 to .50 per round on Sunday.
The price spike is significantly larger than the move in early 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. Also, 223 Remington surged 42% last week.
Besides the Israel-Hamas war threatening to broaden into a regional conflict, Americans are also watching the Ukraine war and imploding US cities governed by radical progressives who could care less about law and order. All of these developments are stoking yet again another run on ammo.
Remember what Elon Musk said on X last week, “As tragic as the mass shootings are, armed citizens are essential to the defense of democracy.”

Good luck with that. I have a good stockpile of M855 when it was much cheaper. I miss the cheap steel cased 223 ammo from Russia. I must have 10,000 rounds of just steel cased stuff.
I would not run a lot of steel cased thru gas impingement type weapons unless you want to replace or have a dedicated bolt carrier group to use. You’re flirting with jamming if you go back to brass.
I have successfully ran thousands of steel cases rounds through different ARs. None of it was ever corrosive. Each rifle always went through a good cleaning. Never had a BCG or gas system issue. Ran plenty of brass cased as well, no issues. People have the wrong idea of steel cased ammo, comparing to the old types. Wolf ammo comes in 20rd boxes and is not corrosive. Sardine cans from the 50s I would be a little weary on using.

I never panic over ammo. One thing this world will never run out of is ways to kill each other. By the time I’m out there will be plenty laying on the ground all around me. Guns,food medicines and vehicles too.
I’ve lost track of how many ammo-shortage cycles I’ve been through now. At least since 2008.
I’ll worry when I’m down to my last pallet of centerfire ammo.
Pro Tip: every panic and shortage is followed 1-3 years later by a glut with discount prices. There was a moderate glut through 1-2 weeks ago. You’re welcome.
This is why people stocked up after the Obama ammo scare when prices fell back to “normal” knowing there would be yet more “scares” or “capers”.
Granted , during the Covid Caper even .22 was difficult to locate at prices that did not border gouging. Then .22 started to appear but a “limit”. My “limit” was buy the “limit”, take it to the car , go back in and buy another “limit”. At least that worked at wal marts.

I probably have 6 to 7 thousand 5.56 loaded and components to reload them a couple of times. The thing is 5.56 is my third choice in caliber. According to my cousin in Texas I don’t near enough ammo, magazines, and guns.
