We do not have even one solitary example of early believers celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ on an annual basis and not a single command to do so anywhere in scripture. Christmas was an invention of the Pope which merged the Roman religion of Catholicism with yet another pagan and idolatrous celebration called “Winter Solstice,”which sacrificed children under green trees to the pagan gods of the day. America does something similar and calls it abortion.
And there wasn’t even a Pope until about 350 AD, long after the New Testament was completed. But I’m pretty sure St. Nick was Catholic.
While Christmas can be used once in a while to witness to people, the fact is that the world would rather pay heed once each year to a helpless little baby in a manger that doesn’t make any demands for Holy living, rather than a crucified Savior who arose from the dead and stands ready to judge the living and the dead.
Thanksgiving however, is something we are commanded to do all year long.
Show me the word “Christmas” anywhere in the Bible and I’ll go out and buy a Satan Claus suit and a Christmas tree today.
Christmas has nothing in common with modernity, period.
Then why do people still do it?

Christmas is ALSO a time for celebration & rituals. It is a time for joy and to bless others if you can. Christ Himself was a present. The Three Kings brought him gifts. Christmas is the celebration of the tangible, physical, and material presence of God. Exchanging gifts at Christmas is a tradition that honors the holy spirit coming into the physical world and is not an empty tradition. It should be ritual of a joyful & intentional act to bless others.

In addition to a season of remembrance, you should be joyfully celebrating with gatherings of loved ones, blessing them with, yes, meaningful gifts, and feasting. It is a CELEBRATION of a miracle for God’s sake!
I personally am not a fan of overdoing the gifts. But I see no problem in blessing your loved ones with gifts as a tradition of a time that brought great joy to the ancient people. I LOVE giving gifts, more than receiving them…and that’s what it’s all about. This year my gifts that I’m giving will be about 80% made from my own hands that took a lot of time, and about 20% purchased but I know will be cherished by the recipients.
