There are 2 songs that bring a smile to my face every Christmas season.
They are not traditional tunes like “White Christmas” or “Silver Bells”. Perhaps that is why I like them so much…they are not played ad nauseum as those songs, and many others are, for the period from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
This one is Pat Metheny’s ‘Last Train Home’. A shortened version was used by one of our local super market chains ‘Publix’.
The full version is below it.

Here’s a ‘train’ song that most likely won’t bring a smile to Ur face but is a pretty good synopsis of and soundtrack for the mess we’ve found ourselves in of late. It passes through my mental sound system from time to time when assessing current events. Merry Christmas all.
We are all on that train and most don’t know. Love that song and bassline.
The Publix commercial brought back fond memories; not just the wonderful instrumental music, but the memories of commercials that were apolitical, non-woke, same race families just enjoying life.
Amen to that!
Exactly, no mixed race families in cartoons supporting “diversity” lokal a local grocer has posted adnausium
A Bluegrass Xmas train song by Patty Loveless….
I listen to Last Train Home weekly. Great music to work to and it never gets old.
His album “Secret Stories”(something close to that) is awesome. A lot of his stuff kinda sucks IMHO. Get that one and you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks, Jim. I really enjoyed Last Train Home.
As for little-played Christmas gems, this is my favourite:
You’re welcome!
Whoo hoo! Deadhead here! 😁😎
Love Metheny nearly as much as I love trains. I encourage everyone that can to ride some of the great remaining (nor for long) Amtrak cross country routes. Like the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle that goes thru Glacier Natl Park. Or Sunset Limited, or Pacific Starliner that traverses West Coast/Cascades. No better way to see what’s left of America before it all collapses and no more long distance trains. Yes, these trains are loss leaders and should probably be extinct but seem to still resonate for me an America that I will miss.
Thanks for taking me back ….. such a great piece of music.
Thank you that was touching
