Red Lobster may file for bankruptcy protection: report
Seafood restaurant chain Red Lobster may be headed for bankruptcy, according to a published report.
Bloomberg News reported it’s getting advice from law firm King & Spalding as the company has been weighed down by the costs of leases as well as labor costs.
Thai Union Group TU, -1.37% in February took a writedown of 18.4 billion Thai baht ($500 million) as it lost 800 million baht on its Red Lobster investment last year.
“Other people stop eating beef, I’m going to stop eating lobster,” said Thai Union CEO Ludovic Garnier on the fourth-quarter earnings call, according to a transcript from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

I gave up on Red Lobster 30 years ago because of bad service. Actually, no service.
My wife doesn’t eat seafood, but I do, and I convinced her to try Red Lobster as they had stuff on the menu other than seafood.
We were seated and then for 20 minutes were ignored. The final straw was another table, seated after us, got drinks.
Let them suffer their Karma.

The Red Lobster in Munster ,Indiana is a little too black for me but they are always packed.
I haven’t eaten there in decades. Their food offerings were just terrible.
More recently, a close family member had a serious cardiac event following an evening of overindulging at Red Lobster and had to be hospitalized for three months after. Now every we time we see a Red Lobster our thoughts turn our relative and how they suffered after eating there.
Gotta watch out for that All You Can’t Eat shrimp.

I ate a six-pound lobster at Red Lobster back in the ’90’s, and it was delicious. I cleaned it so well the waitress complimented me.
Later in the ’00’s I took a job managing a Red Lobster — briefly. I quit on the spot when a table of two black female dykes were openly hostile and complained to me about their White male hetero server; they said he was unprofessional, and they wanted the usual: their tab comp’ed. I found out this was the situation after the server came to me, and then I visited the table.
I instead switched servers, sending a cute White girl over, and the dykes were happy, even paying their tab and leaving a healthy tip.
This is what got me fired.
According to company policy, it was considered to be a breach; if someone complains, you just comp their meal and take the loss versus a bad Google review. Even though I actually made lemonade out of lemons, and turned a sure loss into a profit, “company policy, bro.” The GM called me and said I would win if I took them to a hearing, but I quit right then and there. I was disgusted.
And this was 18 years ago.

Who can afford seafood these days, even at home? Plus Red Lobsters drink prices are out of line to the very expensive side, and the food basically sucks. The last time my wife and I ate at a Red Lobster was twenty years ago because we got a gift certificate, and the mean was so bad we have never went back.
It’s been at least 12 years for me. People love their garlic biscuits. They brought out basket after basket of biscuits so you’d be too full to abuse the “endless shrimp” deal or whatever. Even though farmed shrimp is now as cheap as hamburger, a budget restaurant can’t make it with “endless” anything.
