The Gun Did It? Baldwin Denies Pulling The Trigger In Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting

Authored by Jonathan Turley,

Recently, I noted the curious scene of actor Alec Baldwin insisting with reporters that he has been given clear legal instructions not to discuss the shooting of Halyna Hutchins at the set of the movie “Rust” . . . and then make detailed statements about the shooting.

Now, with an ongoing criminal investigation and various civil lawsuits expected to be filed, Baldwin has given a detailed statement to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, including a surprising claim that he never pointed the gun or pulled the trigger.  That interview may be one of his most watched scenes, particularly if he is charged criminally or sued civilly. In the interview, Baldwin clearly and expressly denies ever pulling the trigger or even pointing the gun at Hutchins:

“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger. I would never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger on them, never.”

That is a bold statement to be sure and it locks in Baldwin’s defense for better or worse.

It would seem that he will be arguing that the gun discharged on its own. As an antique Colt 45, it may be argued that the weapon discharged without the conscious pulling of the trigger. That would make the gun defective.

Alec Baldwin Has PTSD…Really?

Via Blue State Conservative

For the last week, we have listened to reports, opinions, and speculation about the shooting and death on the set of the movie Rust. As a gun owner, I cannot call this unfortunate event an accident. When an innocent person is killed by someone pulling the trigger of a loaded gun, it is not an accident. The gun is not responsible. The person who shot the gun is ultimately responsible. When you have a gun in your hand, you are accountable for that gun, period.

I was listening to the latest report today, and I was flabbergasted. The report included comments from Alec Baldwin’s wife. She claimed that her husband was suffering from PTSD and had difficulty processing what happened to him when he shot the gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust.

The Alec Baldwin Conundrum

The Alec Baldwin Conundrum

Alec Baldwin got to play his dream role last week, and unfortunately for an innocent woman, it was a method-acting version of Ted Kennedy. Now, you note that I am mocking a guy whose probable gross negligence killed a lady and maimed a man, and this raises an important question – do we really want to live in a world where our reaction to a tragedy caused by an enemy is not sorrow and compassion but mockery?

It doesn’t matter what we want. We do live in such a world, in large part due to the likes of Alec Baldwin. Besides his scuzzy abuse of the people – notably women – in his orbit, he is a particularly loathsome social media presence, and as a result, conservatives are gleefully resurrecting his old tweets about guns and his wish for them to be used on his many, many enemies in the wake of his horrible act. There are many, many such tweets. I am not a believer in karma and do not fear it, but I do try to keep a respectful distance from irony.

Trump Critic Alec Baldwin Kills 1, Injures Another After Firing “Prop Gun” On Movie Set

Via ZeroHedge

Actor Alec Baldwin, the prominent critic of President Trump who infamously portrayed the former president on sketch comedy show SNL, has found himself in a bit of hot water after a staggering tragedy on the set of a movie he was filming.

Baldwin, who is notorious for angry outbursts directed at fellow airplane passengers and violent confrontations with strangers vying with him for the same parking spot, apparently shot and killed the director of photography, and wounded the director, of the movie “Rust”, a western which Baldwin was filming in New Mexico, according to the New York Times and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. The killing occurred Thursday when Baldwin fired a “prop firearm” on the set of the film.

The cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed, and the director, Joel Souza, 48, was injured around 1:50 p.m. on the set of “Rust,” which is being filmed in Santa Fe County, said Juan Rios, a spokesman for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.
