Climate Change

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

Climate change is a controversy. What appear to be independent scientists say that the climate is warming due to greenhouse gases produced by human activity. This warming, apparently measurable, has many impacts on sea levels, and on plant, animal, sea, and bird life, as well as food supply for a heavily populated earth.

Readers, accustomed to me telling them the truth about issues on which I am competent, ask me about the climate problem. Is it real or not?

As far as I can tell the polluting corporations have sufficient think tanks and research institutes to neutralize the independent scientists. If one is not a climate expert, which I am not, one doesn’t really know. However, I have learned in my many years that an independent voice is far more reliable than a paid voice.

Over the years I have come to appreciate Dahr Jamail’s reporting. Here is his report on the situation: http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/31089-imminent-collapse-of-the-antarctic-ice-shelf-and-a-new-era-in-the-arctic

Possibly climate change is occurring because of solar activity or because of activity inside the earth itself. The attention should not be on the cause but on the fact. First establish the fact, then look for the cause.

My view of this is that life depends on climate, and it doesn’t take a lot of change in one direction or the other to create problems for life. This fact makes climate change an important issue, and corporations should stop paying people to lie about it.

Climate change, if real, is clearly a much greater threat than Muslim terrorists or alleged Chinese and Russian hegemonic aspirations. Therefore, Washington should spend some of the one trillion dollars Washington blows on the military/security complex on arriving at the best conclusion about climate change and its remedies, if any.

The United States is a strange country. The population accepts the destruction of privacy and civil liberty out of fear of essentially non-existent terrorists created by propaganda, but ignores the threat of climate change presented by independent scientists, a threat amplified by the ongoing multi-year drought in California and the western US.

It seems very strange to me that with Lake Mead drying up and California left with only one year’s water supply that the US government is focused on gratuitous but expensive wars and in turning over environmental decisions to polluting corporations via TTIP.

Whatever this is, it is not leadership.

Oh, the “climate consensus” charlatans have suddenly become “independent,” have they?

In what sense? They certainly depend upon those Saganesque “bill-yuns and bill-yuns” in government grants funding their reality-disconnected “research” every year.

If anything, the independent scientists involved in the great man-made global warming (er, “climate change”) fraud are those exercising scrupulously SKEPTICAL adherence to sound scientific method, which has led them inexorably to debunk the catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (cAGW) crapola for decades now.

As for that “ongoing multi-year drought in California,” are you REALLY cement-headed enough to attribute those failures of water management to anybody EXCEPT the leftard state government in Sacramento, which has been violating common-sense civil engineering principles to send better than 50% of the Golden State’s fresh water resources down the rivers and into the Pacific in the name of preserving a few species of baitfish?

How the hell do you manage to be this stupid while at the same time pretending that you’re toilet-trained?

Agree with Tucci….”ignores the threat of climate change presented by independent scientists,”

It is the gov’t funding for UN, Uni’s, Science Agencies, and, Gov’t funded Grants that push the Hoax. Independent scientists are almost exclusively left out of the gravy train.

Mr. Roberts – you have written well previously; how can you be so confused on this issue.

Cities are heat islands and NOAA has shut down about 2,000 RURAL weather reporting stations over the last 15 years or so. That has cause a gradual increase in the average recorded temperatures and that has not been factored out for political reasons. Not one scrap of this Federal government can be trusted!

NOAA is owned by the Rothschilds……….you can’t trust them or the government. The planet warms and cools in a cyclical pattern that has gone on for millions of years, nothing new here unless you are .gov looking to tax something for a new income stream.

I think the focus on “climate-change” in its current form is something of a straw-man.

The relationship between carbon dioxide levels and temperature hasn’t been firmly established, and honestly the temperature of the climate itself is debatable, as our data is so rough beyond 100 years ago that we really can’t state with any degree of certainty whether our current global mean is low/high/normal.

We could start with how the ocean is completely jacked up. Massive amounts of trash and pollutants enter it daily, destroying massive ecosystems that have a tremendous direct benefit to large swaths of humanity, let alone the “indirect” benefits the rest of us enjoy from having healthy oceans.

Or we could talk about the deforestation and removal of old-growth forests for the purpose of oft-times shitty farm land near the equator.

How about piss-poor water management in drought stricken areas?

Fraccing?

How the focus on a massive military-industrial complex has gutted any chance of a sustainable economy?

Lot of issues to focus on these days, its a shame carbon dioxide carries so much blame.

What a way to encourage productive discourse. Just chop the guy’s head off. Pretty ugly behavior folks. I’m inclined to believe that burning billions of tons of fossil fuels and releasing it to atmosphere and dissolving it into the oceans might cause chemical changes to both. Maybe enough to threaten life. Possible? Yes? No?

Dan….planet earth has experienced many catastrophic events in the geologic record; somehow the earth ecosystems survived. The climate on earth is affected by many, many variables and the understanding of these variables by scientific community is sorely lacking, understandably so. Climate is an extremely immature field – maybe in 100+ years we can achieve better results To even think that a trace gas is the major factor of control with our current poor knowledge of climate is ludicrous.

“Globull” Warming, ah I mean climate change, whatever. It was 48 degrees here in Boston this morning, going up to 51. Tonight it is supposed to go down to 44 degrees, coldest temperature in 143 years or since they have been tracking the temperature in these parts. Someone just turned on the heat in my office it was so cold in here. I look forward to some global warming or whatever. I really think it man thinks way too much of himself if we think we are on a large scale affecting the weather. Now if there is a large scale increase in volcanic activity or a large meteor strike then you will see some serious climate change. As for pollution. call me when China starts to follow the same strict regulations as the United States and then we can have a real discussion.

@dan

According to warmists, man is responsible for 5 percent of the co2. Their numbers. The atmosphere contains .039 percent co2. We are responsible for 5 percent of that.
So man is responsible for .00195 percent co2 that is in atmosphere. Is that ridiculously tiny percentage enuf to change anything? Or is it statistical error? Or is it blown out of all proportion by propaganda? Tell a big enuf lie long enuf…….

@dan, I notice you use electricity, wear clothes, and eat. How will layering more bureaucracy and tax on those activities stop a freaking thing. But hey, at least the crony-capitalists and politicians will continue amassing more riches than the bottom 70% of the population own combined. Thanks for stopping by.

1. The climate has been changing, then changing again for millions and millions and millions of years.

2. The data has been CHANGED, and then found out, MULTIPLE times. The truth does not require LIES to prove.

3. Anyone that thinks there are “independent” scientists in this profit (for the few, growing fewer) world, is out of their freaking minds and high on cognitive dissonance.

Science, especially the Climate Change bullshit, is NO longer scientific.

Running theories through computer models is NOT proof of anything, other than computers are awesome.

The scientific method demands a protocol that is no longer being strictly adhered to, routinely supported by “studies” with falsified, or not counted, results, and funded by those that stand to make trillions, and if anyone thinks our modern scientists do not know that, they are living in a Utopian dreamworld that will eventually bite them in the ass.

Screw it, this puppy is going down one way or the other, whether it comes from Wall Street, Pension funds, bonds, or carbon taxes (that won’t matter anyway, the bulk of our manufacturing is in China & Asia ya’ morons), or the remaining small businesses finally being put out of business or going Galt, it is going down.

Bring it on. Sipping your fucking lattes’, popping medications made from fossil fuels, eating food that both contains them, and is shipped with them over great distances, and is processed and served to you here, pulling on your modern fiber (fossil fuels) shirts with “wicking” technology, and your “save the cows” pleather shoes (again, fossils).

SCREW YOU TOOL. I can’t wait until you find the truth about your belief system.

Of course you will probably be hungry and cold and experiencing want like you could never imagine, but hey, the freaking planet will be safe from us (while simultaneously being ravaged everywhere else with our war machine and China’s not taxed production).

ps, one last thought, just exactly what do you think is happening with the magnetic pole switching spots? (that, btw, IS scientifically proven)

Could it be our freaking climate will change as our direction we point towards the sun changes?

No? Nah, it’s fossil fuels and manufacturing we don’t even do anymore. Dammit, dan made me blow my happy intentions.

The people that want us to swallow their climate change rhetoric (is climate supposed to remain constant? for how long? what about climate history?) are trying to start WWIII and say you’re a kook if you ask about what they’re spraying in our skies.
Fuck those lying, greedy, psychopathic pieces of shit. Maybe if they really had our genuine interests in mind and stopped lying to us we could have a discussion.
I feel way less threatened by climate change and terrorism, than by the assorted poisons and wars they’re shoving down our throats and up our butts.

I don’t agree with the carbon credits “solution” but you guys aren’t seeing the forest for the trees. Fact is, we have a problem. I’m with PCR inasmuch as I’m not a climate scientist either, but neither are you. IMHO we need to keep an open mind as this develops. When you can’t breathe without an O2 assist, or your coastal property is under 6 feet of water, get back to me.
Bottom line: our activities have fucked Mother Earth up. If we become too big a problem, we as a species will become extinct.

West….yes, a smaller part is to soak funds out of the general populace to support the bankrupt Western Developed economies, and to help the International Corps (Banksters, GE, etc) rape and pillage the general population.

The bigger reason is to control energy. The gov’t policies (with or through the UN) will be draconian. CAGW was never about science – it was always a political agenda.

You are the one that can’t see the forest for the trees.
We have been presented with fear-mongering for 25 years. All the IPCC Models are a complete joke compared to reality – and you want to base gov’t policy based on fantasy.
I learned a very long time ago not to trust anyone that lies. Know that purposeful deception = a Lie. This has been the hallmark of all the alarmists, including Obama – a habitual liar.

In 1982, it was 70 degress farenheit on New Year’s Eve, the middle of a NA winter. The very next year, it was so cold over Christmas and New Years that cars wouldn’t start. So What.

Did you know the magnetic pole has already shifted? Which means the entire EARTH has moved slightly from angles to the sun?

Which means that some of us will get a little colder, and others will get a little warmer, that is the way the planet is made.

And taxing Americans won’t change it one iota.

It will, however, help to usher in the coming return of dark ages for the masses of average citizens worldwide. Now are the “good ole days” you will, if lucky, tell your grandchildren about.

June 3, 2015 3:02 pm

Dan, guesses and “models” are NOT evidence.

Science has been WRONG, many, many, many, times before. The “overwhelming” “majority” of scientists were SURE an Ice Age was coming just a few short decades ago.

It is absolute hubris to think MAN, especially the US government, or UN, can “change” the average WORLD temperature by taxing a small portion of said world.

To trust people that have been EXPOSED as liars and statistic changers is just beyond me.

If this was “true,” there would be NO need to lie about. Those behind it have been caught, time and again, lying.

Your denial of reality is a beautiful thing to see. Ignorance is, apparently, bliss.

TE said:
“Did you know the magnetic pole has already shifted? Which means the entire EARTH has moved slightly from angles to the sun?”

Uhhh……..yes and no. The magnetic poles are constantly changing……..24/7/365. Charts are available going back decades and maybe centuries that plot the ever changing position. You might be thinking of a magnetic pole reversal which has not happened yet but is anticipated. Confirmation will come when newly deposited and undisturbed molten magma solidifies with a new magnetic orientation compared to the layers directly below it.

As far as the Earth moving with respect to the Sun……..magnetism has nothing to do with that. Only changes in mass (leading to changes in our gravitational field) or changes in velocity of our orbit will change that. I can prove it every time I set up my German Equatorial telescope mounting which incorporates a small, precise telescope to align the Right Ascension axis of the mounting with the rotational axis of the Earth. If the Earth’s orbital inclination had changed, every professional telescope on the planet would have to be suddenly realigned to compensate. However, this is done on a regular basis anyway because of a long known “wobble” in Earth’s rotation known as precession which causes the polar axis to wander similar to children’s toy know as a top. Even the ancient Egyptians knew about this “wobble” which precesses at a known rate and is believed to have been caused by a massive meteor strike in early Earth history, possibly the one which created the Moon. Our orbit and rotation is incredibly stable.
