For The Times They Are A-Changin’

Guest Post by Jesse

‘Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future…

A great change is at hand, and our task, our obligation, is to make that revolution, that change, peaceful and constructive for all. Those who do nothing are inviting shame as well as violence…

The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were and ask, why not?’

History is a relentless master. It has no present, only the past rushing into the future. To try to hold fast is to be swept aside.

John F. Kennedy

‘Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything.

Cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying yes begins things.’

Stephen Colbert

‘All successful revolutions are the kicking in of a rotten door.’

John Kenneth Galbraith

‘This generation has a rendezvous with destiny.’

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

For good or ill, after a long period of abuse and a testing of the extremities of power and the people’s willingness to accept them, the only inevitability is change.  Always.

History is not a given, it is not given to us. It is what we are, what we have been given, and what we make of it.

Looking forward to the times a-changin’ the president back to YT. I am looking around at huge growth here in KY. Four new hotels going up nearby, an awesome tunnel from KY to Indiana also a new bridge over the Ohio River. Construction of commercial real estate still very strong.

There will always be change, I’m good with that most of the time. Like I said in the “modern art” thread, how can we have a glorious renaissance without going into the shitter first?

Change isn’t always for the better.

“We need men who can dream of things that never were and ask, why not?”

Ditto on the Federal Reserve………………….

I can dream of pie in the sky and ask, why not? Why not indeed…….
Because it serves no useful purpose, that’s why!!!

I’d say this ‘change’ bullshit started around 1990. In my field, computer science, companies like Microsoft kept changing things cause their shit never worked in the first place, and was never designed with any kind of maintenance or growth in mind. So it was year over year change.

Then someone made a lot of money selling the idea that ‘change is good’ and people who don’t want change are Luddites / slow / old. Problem is the changes happen so quickly nobody masters the current situation before going on to the next, bigger, better thing. Just ignore the fact that you may have to buy all new hardware, cables, software, racks, etc.

Finally, this ‘change’ paradigm has been misapplied to our daily lives.

Took down my Rebel flag (which you can’t buy on e-bay
any more) and peeled the NRA sticker off the front door.

I disconnected my ADT home alarm system and
quit the candy-ass Neighborhood Watch.

I bought two Pakistani flags and put
one at each corner of the front yard.

Then I purchased the black flag of ISIS (which you CAN
buy on e-bay) and put it in the CENTER of the yard.

Now, the local police, sheriff, FBI, CIA, NSA, Homeland Security,
Secret Service and other agencies are all watching the house 24/7.

I’ve NEVER felt safer and I’m saving
$69.95 a month that ADT charged me.

Plus, I bought burkas for my family when we shop or travel.
Everyone moves out of way and security can’t pat us down.

Safe at last – only in USA!
