Correct. Allentown plaza frequently has no diesel because the pumps don’t work, thanks to the Pennsylvania standard of lack of maintenance. This is on the PA Turnpike, a road notorious among truck drivers for being 100% substandard. The entire state is full of examples of how to not build and maintain infrastructure. What would be news is if the pumps were working. Or better yet, if the parking lots were actually large enough to park 53 foot trailers. These places were built back when 30 foot trailers were standard and they have not upgraded the parking lots since. Pennsylvania infrastructure is as if it is still 1940.
By the way, big truck drivers get fuel at truck stops, not rest areas on the toll roads. Why? They get a better deal on fleet sales and the truck stop includes a shower when pumping 50 gallons.
Pennsylvania really is a socialist disaster state. Bulldoze the entire state and start over. Then repeat for every state east of Ohio. And do it with contractors from the Midwest so it actually gets done. And don’t forget to shoot in the head any politician who attempts to turn it into a make-work program for diversity hires and affirmative inaction deadbeats.
Well, it’s just jumped to $4.99 here while regular gas is $3.39. Maybe it will be available, it just won’t be affordable.

I’m not an expert in such things and someone correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t there numerous power plants that are fueled by diesel? How long before there’s blackouts in certain parts of the country?
Diesel is a small fraction of the mix, used primarily for emergency backup generators in critical areas like hospitals.
I work for a utility. If power goes out & diesel is not available you aren’t going to be calling 911 either.

If I were you, I would be more concerned about plenty of empty shelves in the stores, because odds are excellent that you can’t name a single store that gets its items for sale delivered by horse and wagon or wood burning steam locomotive.

The shortage isn’t of diesel fuel itself, but the additives that make it smoke less.

Good luck with that. Since 2011, every diesel engine built is equipped with electronic fuel injection and will not run if the diesel exhaust fluid tank is empty. A complete redesign of the engine would be required to get it to run with old-school mechanical fuel injection.
Good luck trying to find enough Series 60 engines in junk yards and then finding enough of the parts to rebuild them.
As for the zero IQ mental defects with the dirty pickup trucks blowing smoke, all they are accomplishing by modifying the computer software is sending their diesel engines to an early grave and proving that it is possible to cut their fuel economy in half. Never mind the negative public relations they create for diesel engines and pickup trucks.
LOL, I learned from a ‘Combustion Engines’ professor lecture that a Diesel has the highest effectiveness (fuel and power-wise) when it’s slightly smoking. Obviously, for emission reasons diesel engines are not run that way today.
But that potentially doing so reduces the longevity [of the engine] must be complete bullschiff.

It’s the same fuel, when you run a diesel in a slightly smoking manner.
It’s just running a richer AFR (air-fuel-ratio), which in a diesel engine leads to not all carbon being burned to carbon dioxide, and so some soot coming out of your tail pipe. Nothing of that can damage the engine, with the exception of EGR-equipped ones where the soot may build up in the intake channels, clogging the air intake.
The ONLY reason there’s a diesel “shortage” is because NO BALLS POLITICIANS refuse to rescind the emissions standards for diesel engines…for fear someone might see a black exhaust cloud. I guess they’d rather starve to death in the dark and cold.
They’ll “fix it”…once they decide YOU have suffered enough to comply with their demands.
Some States have already done the right thing. So…if you’re getting the short end of this stick, you now know exactly who to blame. Your State legislators!

Highways were practically empty of (diesel) passenger vehicles during the first year of CoVid lockdowns and some major diesel refineries were shuttered on the eastern seaboard. They haven’t been brought back online and they never will be if our uppity donkey government continues its suicidal war on hydrocarbons.
I always feel better pumping bicycle pedals (7 year-old grin on a 70 year-old man) until I have to suck black diesel smoke, so I’m grateful for stricter diesel emissions. Stricter emission controls don’t affect refinery production, just the sticker price of a new diesel-powered vehicle (priced palladium lately?) Exhaust from new diesels (2020+) don’t make me feel instantly sick and they burn the same diesel as old engines. That’s a win-win.

Emission controls on modern diesel doom it to an early death, cupcake. They use an EGR that recycles the used gasses back through the engine before it is filtered. This scores the cylinder walls and gums up the entire upper part of the engine.
Evil VW made a diesel that put out .140 grams of NOx per mile. Less than 1/10 the weight of a paperclip. It got 45-50mpg with less CO2 and than a gasser . Their crime was Uncle Fed only allows .132grams.
If you can smell that difference you should sniff baggage at the airport.
There is only 15 days of diesel in reserve. Republican’s can’t stop the train wreck that’s about to happen, it’s too late in the game. We don’t have the refinery capacity to offset the shortages in a timely manner. It will be bitter sweet to watch the big city dwellers starve to death.
