It has been almost two years since I whipped this article out in a one day sleepless frenzy. I was then reminded of it by the BART incident, the London riots and the indictment of the Tea Party as terrorists by the liberal MSM and Democratic politicians in the summer of 2011, so I posted it again . There were calls for civility that week. I knew it wouldn’t happen. Now the horrific mass murder in Connecticut brought it back to my mind again. This Fourth Turning gets worse by the day.

After the horrific mass murder in Tucson yesterday I had trouble sleeping last night. When my mind gets overloaded, I can’t sleep. I came downstairs at 3:30 am and for some reason decided now was the time to watch the movie V For Vendetta. Many people had recommended this movie over the years, but I had never gotten around to it. Well, on the day after the attempted assassination of a Congresswoman and murder of six others, including a Federal Judge, this movie provided a vision into what could happen next in this country.
The 2006 movie centers around a man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask who refers to himself as V. He is a bold, charismatic freedom fighter driven to exact revenge on those who disfigured him. The film is an allegory of oppression and coercion by government. It is a declaration against government intervention into the lives of the citizens. He blows up the Old Bailey on November 5, Guy Fawkes Day. He promises to blow up Parliament one year later on the 5th of November. His speech at the beginning of the movie, broadcast to all of England, explains what happened in a fictional England and what is happening here:
“Good evening, London.
Allow me first to apologize, for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of everyday routine, the security, the familiar, the tranquility, repetition… I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, whereby those important events of the past, usually associated with someone’s death or the end of some awful, bloody struggle, are celebrated with a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 5th, a day that is certainly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat.
There are, of course, those who do not want us to speak. I think that even now orders are been shouted into telephones and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? I know why you did it. I know you were afraid! Who wouldn’t be? War, terror, disease… There were a myriad problems that conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic, you turned to the now High Chancellor, Adam Suttler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient, consent.
Last night, I sought to end that silence. Last night, I destroyed the Old Bailey to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than 400 years ago, a great citizen wished to embed the 5th of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you’ve seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you, then, I would suggest you allow the 5th of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me, one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament, and together we shall give them a 5th of November that shall never, ever, be forgot.”
The movie’s central theme revolves around the 1605 Gunpowder Plot to blow up Parliament. The plot was a failed assassination attempt against King James I of England by a group of provincial English Catholics led by Robert Catesby. The plan was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament on November 5, 1605, as the prelude to a popular revolt in the Midlands during which James’s nine-year-old daughter, Princess Elizabeth, was to be installed as the Catholic head of state.
Guy Fawkes, who had 10 years of military experience fighting in the Spanish Netherlands in suppression of the Dutch Revolt, was given charge of the explosives. The plot was revealed to the authorities in an anonymous letter sent to William Parker, 4th Baron Monteagle. During a search of the House of Lords at about midnight on November 4, 1605, Fawkes was discovered guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder – enough to reduce the House of Lords to rubble – and arrested. He was hanged shortly thereafter. November the 5th has been celebrated ever since this event with celebrations and fireworks.

As I watched hour after hour of coverage about the ambush and assassination attempt on a Congresswoman from Arizona, I couldn’t help but think this could be the spark for something bigger. There were almost immediate reactions from the MSM that this murder was instigated by the Tea Party. The liberal ideologue Paul Krugman blamed the Republican Party for the murders. Apoplectic left wing faux journalist Keith Olbermann described conservative commentators as those “who have so irresponsibly brought us to this time of domestic terrorism”. The local sheriff, an Arizona State Senator and the Congresswoman’s father all blamed the Tea Party, either directly or indirectly. Based on my reading of the murderer’s writings and youtubes, he appears to be a mentally deranged psycho. Somehow, every liberal MSM “journalist” has concluded that this was due to the contentious political atmosphere in the country. This is code for “we need less dissent”. Stop disagreeing with the Obama agenda. If you disagree, you are dangerous.
The scene in the movie that made me think of yesterday’s events was toward the end of the movie when Inspector Finch, who is trying to capture V, has a feeling about what is going to happen:
Finch: I had to see it. There wasn’t much left. But when I was there it was strange. I suddenly had this feeling that everything was connected. It’s like I could see the whole thing, one long chain of events that stretched all the way back before Larkhill. I felt like I could see everything that happened, and everything that is going to happen. It was like a perfect pattern, laid out in front of me. And I realized we’re all part of it, and all trapped by it.
Dominic: So do you know what’s gonna happen?
Finch: No, it was a feeling. But I can guess. With so much chaos, someone will do something stupid. And when they do, things will turn nasty. And then Sutler will be forced to do the only thing he knows how to do. At which point, all V needs to do is keep his word. And then…

The line that hit me like a ton of bricks was, “With so much chaos, someone will do something stupid.” As Inspector Finch was speaking these words a scene of a policeman shooting a 10 year old girl with a Guy Fawkes Mask on is shown and then an angry mob surrounds and kill the policeman.
Yesterday, someone did something stupid. The question is what happens next.
Already, a fringe religious fanatic pastor and his followers, who have previously picketed the military funerals of Americans killed in Iraq, issued this press release:
“Thank God for the shooter – 6 dead! WBC will picket their funerals!” It continues on to condemn what it condemns as violence unleashed on WBC by a “hateful nation…hoping to silence our kind warning to obey God and flee the wrath to come.”
There is one thing I’m sure about. This will not result in more civil discourse. Opposing ideologies will become further entrenched in their positions. Those who attempt to be peacemakers will be shouted down. Passions will rise as they did in the 1850s when another member of Congress was badly injured as national passions flamed over slavery. On May 19, 1856, Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts, a prominent voice in the anti-slavery movement, delivered an impassioned speech denouncing the compromises that helped perpetuate slavery and led to confrontations in Kansas. Sumner singled out Senator Andrew Pickens Butler of South Carolina. Butler, who had recently been incapacitated by a stroke and was recuperating in South Carolina, was held to particular ridicule by Sumner. Sumner said that Butler had taken as his mistress “the harlot, slavery.” Sumner also referred to the South as an immoral place for allowing slavery, and he mocked South Carolina.
Preston Brooks, a member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina, was particularly incensed. Not only had the fiery Sumner ridiculed his home state, but Brooks was the nephew of Andrew Butler, one of Sumner’s targets. Brooks walked to Sumner’s desk in the Senate chamber, and reportedly said: “You have libeled my state and slandered my relation, who is aged and absent. And I feel it to be my duty to punish you.” With that, Brooks struck the seated Sumner across the head with his heavy cane. Brooks continued raining blows with the cane upon Sumner, who tried to fend them off with his arms. As might be expected, northern newspapers responded to the violent attack on the Senate floor with horror. Southern newspapers published editorials lauding Brooks, claiming that the attack was a justified defense of the south and slavery. Supporters sent Brooks new canes, and Brooks claimed that people wanted pieces of the cane he used to beat Sumner as “holy relics.”
This attack was a foreshadowing of what was to come – the deaths of 600,000 Americans in the space of four years – over 4% of the male population. Yesterday’s tragedy is another step deeper into this Fourth Turning. Every Fourth Turning has proven to be a decisive era of secular upheaval, when the values regime propels the replacement of the old civic order with a new one.

The prior Fourth Turnings in U.S. history (American Revolution, Civil War, Great Depression/World War II) all proved to be secular upheavals of immense proportions, tore apart the existing civil order, but had numerous moments of danger and uncertainty about the future turn of events. We are six years into a twenty year Crisis saeculum. Every Crisis intensifies as time progresses to an ultimate crescendo. The initial financial crisis built to a dramatic peak in September 2008 as the government and Federal Reserve have taken extraordinary and immoral actions to protect Wall Street banks. Since September 11, 2001, the government has used fear as its primary means of controlling the American population. Fear of terrorists, fear of flying, fear of WMD, fear of mushroom clouds, fear of the axis of evil, fear of economic collapse, fear of a Great Depression, and now fear of the Tea Party movement. This attack by a crazy man will lead to further losses of liberties and freedoms. That is a certainty.

This country has not reached the level of control and fear seen in Orwell’s 1984 and V For Vendetta, yet. We are moving relentlessly in that direction. Surveillance, monitoring, spying, censorship, secret prisons, predator drones, and conforming to state rules and regulations put citizens further under the thumb of an all powerful state. The freedom to dissent, the freedom to be left alone, the freedom to speak out against injustice, the freedom to disagree with your government, and the freedom to present your ideas without fear of retribution or penalty are essential in a democratic society. The next phase of this Fourth Turning will surely include another downward spiral in financial markets as un-payable debts accumulate to a tipping point level. When ATM machines stop spitting out twenties, food shelves are bare and gas stations are shuttered, social chaos will ensue. The government will react with further command and control measures. In V For Vendetta, the government creates a terrorist incident in order to gain unquestioned control over the population. Americans will need to be more vigilant than they have been over the last ten years in keeping an eye on their government.
In the movie, Parliament is the symbol of government power. The thought of destroying this symbol provided the people with a renewed sense of purpose and power. By V’s destruction of the building, the people regained their hope for the future. The symbol of America is the Statue of Liberty. The pedestal at the base of the statue states:

THE IDEA OF AMERICA – THE CHOICE IS OURS
As is to be expected after a mass killing that involves not only a national level politician but also a Federal Judge and a relatively famous Baseball player/manager AND a couple of children, the OUTRAGE is simply pouring across the pages of the blogosphere. Given that the Shooter did not commit Suicide in this case, it’s also about guaranteed to be a Media Circus for the foreseeable future. Any economic newz will about disappear from FOX Newz as they cover this story in endless gruesome detail.
The thing is, that this event happened should be of no surprise to anyone who has been observing the social collapse going on around us. Events like this are practically weekly occurrences in countries further down the collapse highway like Iraq and Pakistan. All that needed to happen was the sense of pervasive HOPELESSNESS to come to these shores, and now it has. People ask me all the time, “RE, do your Predictions ever come true?” Well folks, I predicted this one 3 years ago when I started the Falling Stockborkers and Going Postal Suicide Watch on Peak Oil.
The signs have been around us for a while that this was coming, Joe Stack flew his Cessna into an IRS building a while back, and there have been several College Campus shootings over the last couple of years. These are also just the events that have been spectacular enough to get picked up by the MSM. There have been even more local Suicides of despondent people, sometimes taking their whole families with them into the Great Beyond.
Will this particular event be the one that sets off a further chain of events that brings us into the kind of Mad Max world the residents of Baghdad live in? If so, what kind of event chains are likely to occur after this one?
On an individual level, this action could trigger other “psychos” to go Postal. We label them psychos because of course going out and willy nilly killing people isn’t considered normal behavior, but the problem here is that the society is making ever more psychos. People don’t generally instantaneously go nuts, it happens over a period of years sometimes beginning in childhood, but also occurring later in life when events in their personal lives go south. For this particular Shooter, he is so young that his psychosis probably began in childhood. We are likely to hear from people who knew him in HS that he was a misfit, all the usual stories.
How many misfits are there in the Warehouses we call High Schools these days, anybody want to hazard a guess on that one? Could you even tell with the Piercings and the Tattoos who the misfits are? What about the “normal” guys whose lives are falling apart now like Michael Douglas in “Falling Down”? How many of them are out there now and gradually going nuts?
The one thing you can be sure of is that as the economic situation worsens, the society will create more “psychos”. In response to this, you can also be sure that there will be some attempt to gain control over the problem by the society at large, until of course there are just too many psychos to contain. What are the likely control methods to be attempted here?
The most obvious one would be a new push to Ban Guns, but this brings with it another set of problems. Many Gun Owners espouse the philosophy that you will only “pry my gun from my cold dead fingers.” While most of them are Blowhards, I am sure at least a few will go down in a Blaze of Gunfire, thoroughly out-gunned as they take on the Gestapo from the ATF and FBI. Besides that, many will hide their guns, especially the already Psycho. Besides that, many guns flow around the drug community unregistered, and for the FBI and ATF to try to confiscate those guns, they would have to go into every ghetto in the country, places the local cops long ago stopped trying to police. In short, trying to implement this policy would almost certainly create a whole new set of problems in vastly increasing the size and scope of the Police State.
Da Goobermint may realize this, which could lead to the Opposite Scenario, which is that everyone will start Packing Heat. That was the case in the Great Depression in the time of Prohibition of course. In the case where everyone was carrying a gun, it would be unlikely that one Psycho could shoot so many people in a parking lot, since after he pulls his gun and starts shooting, everybody in the parking lot will pull their guns and shoot back. Maybe he knocks down 2 or 3 before he gets knocked down, but not 12. Back to the Wild West of course.
Thing is, that won’t stop a determined psycho either, he’ll bunker up at the top of a Tower somewhere and start picking off the well armed people below with a high powered rifle and scope. Depending on the number of people circulating and how long it takes for the crowd to realize they are targets, said sniper could knock down quite a few people before they clear the fire zone. Then the SWAT team gets called in to figure out which window the shots are coming from, they pile on in with tear gas wearing body armor and knock out the sniper, but that is what he was after anyhow, and meanwhile he achieves his goal of taking a few people with him into the Great Beyond. Bottom Line, there is NO DEFENSE against a suicidal individual with nothing left to lose but his life, which he is ready to give up anyhow.
The only solution to the problem would be to not make so many psychos to begin with, but that isn’t going to happen as long as the economic condition of the society continues to deteriorate, which it is going to do for the foreseeable future. So, since neither trying to confiscate guns nor having everybody armed will resolve this problem, the conclusion is that either way we are going to get a lot more violent behavior generated through the society over the coming years.
For the Politicians and the Banksters, these folks won’t be appearing in Public Places very much anymore. When they do have to travel, they will be accompanied by Secret Service in the case of Politicians, and for the Banksters by Private Bodyguards hired from the ranks of ex-Green Berets and Army Rangers. I cannot imagine that Lloyd Blankfein travels anywhere these days without cars full of Mercs in front of and behind his Limo, which is also Bulletproof and hardened to withstand a hit by an RPG.
Being so well protected doesn’t resolve the problems for either Da Goobermint Politicians or the Banksters. For the Politicians, once they sequester themselves off and no longer interact with their constituencies, they lose the legitimacy to rule. Elections such as they are will be even more of a sham, as most people will be afraid to even go out and vote. Regardless though, just like in India and Pakistan, folks who decide to risk being a Political Ruler will be offed on a regular basis, as their Secret Service guards are Bribed to look the other way. Banksters will have a similar problem with their Body Guards, for the simple reason that in every Trade there is a Winner and a Loser, and these guys are fighting with EACH OTHER for control of an ever shrinking pie. If Al Capone and Bugsy Seagall are both fighting for control of some Territory, Al will bribe one of Bugsy’s Bodyguards, and Bugsy will try the same thing with one of Al’s. Eventually they meet up in a St. Valentine’s Day Massacre at some party in the Hamptons, Tommy Guns Blazing as Ford Models serving Canapes get filled full of more Lead than Coke and Bankster Tube Steak.
How long will the Wild West/Prohibition scenario go on before some order gets restored? In this case, probably not until nobody can get a hold of Bullets anymore to fill the magazines of their guns, which is likely to take quite some time.
Also likely of course is that the Psychos will run out of Bullets before the Politicians and the Banksters do, but that won’t stop Psychos from going Postal. In Japan a while back a Psycho drove his car into a Tokyo shopping district and then jumped out and started making Sushi out of the Consumers with his Ginsu Knife. You don’t need complex weapons to start a fire, a match will do the trick. As long as the society continues to spin down in its economics, the society will continue to make psychos, criminals, terrorists and of course Zombie Cannibals also eventually. Hannibal Lechter isn’t far over the horizon here. Like a Hydra, for every Zombie whose head you cut off, two more will spring up in its place.
Anyhow, I for one am in no way surprised this latest Postal Event occurred. Its not going to be the last one, by any means. This is the outcome of a Civilization Collapse, you really just have to read the Book of Revelation to understand it. People simply GO NUTS when the civilization they are living in collapses. You get your Sodom & Gomorrahs consumed in moral turpitude, you get entire cities going up in flames. All you really can do is RUN AWAY from it, and do not look back either, or like Lot’s Wife you will turn into a Pillar of Salt.
You can feel sorry for all the folks who were at the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time here and became the victims of this particular Psycho’s actions, but you should be equally sorry for any kids who were on the wrong bus in Baghdad when a Suicide Bomber lit up his C-4 encrusted vest, and sorry for any kids who were in the wrong building when a Drone Aircraft lit it up with a Stinger Missile. Innocents are dying everywhere all the time, sometimes quickly through the violence of War, other times more slowly through gradual starvation. All of us are living inside a Global Civilization that is Collapsing around us, and not only Individuals will Go Postal here, entire Nations will also as time goes by. There is no stopping this now, we are destined for increasing levels of violence and decreasing personal freedoms as a result. There are no non-Combatants in a Civilization Collapse, and the Innocent will die along with the Guilty here in vast numbers. It will be the way of the world for the rest of your natural life.

I have seen more conjecture about the motives of the shooter than I would have ever dreamed possible. The event is being dishonestly politicized by all parties. Vested interests are so pervasive no reason is possible. Unfortunately, I do not believe the choice is any longer ours. At best we may bring influence to the margins. What a classy, brave and thoughtful individual John Green is – father of the 9-year-old girl murdered by Jared Loughner – Green contradicts the distasteful rush to exploit Saturday’s tragic events as a vehicle through which to eviscerate the 1st and 2nd Amendments.
Speaking to Fox News, Green labeled Loughner’s rampage a “random act” and said that the death of his daughter should not be exploited to revoke freedoms.
Speaking on the subject of how travel became a nightmare after 9/11, John Green said, “We don’t need any more restrictions on our society,” as a consequence of the shootings, and said that tragic events such as those that led to the murder of his daughter was the price Americans have to pay for freedom.
“Guarantee Balanced Media Coverage”? WTF does that mean? Does it mean the MSM will stop feeding us only Gooberment Lies and Balance their coverage with say some of John Williams Shadow Stats? Does it men the MSM will actually do some investigative reporting of the FRAUD run by the TBTF Banks?
This Jackass doesn’t want “balanced” coverage, he wants Orwellian Newspeak. Should be fun when they try to enforce this across the blogosphere.

How low will some people stoop to play at partisan politics by exploiting the weekend’s tragic events? We’ve already seen the bar set pretty damn low by elements of the media and some public officials, yet its hard to imagine how much further anyone can go than to verbally attack the parents of the slain 9 year old Christina Taylor Green.
Yet this is exactly what sometime AOL writer Jeanne Sager does in an article published today on parenting blog Cafemom.com.
“Seeing the couple on Dateline NBC last night, my first inclination was to grit my teeth and ask what kind of parent is ready to go on national TV 24 hours after the loss of their child?” writes Sager.
“The same type of parents who paraded their child out in a book about babies born on 9/11/01? They don’t deserve to be parents if they’re going to use horrors for their own gains.” she adds.
Exactly what “gains” are we talking about here Ms Sager? Their beloved child has just been shot dead. What in the world makes you believe they are gaining anything?
“…watching the Greens so exacting as they spoke of their daughter, so unfeeling. What, you couldn’t even summon a tear for your little girl? Everywhere I look, they’re talking to the media. To Fox News. To USA Today.” the disgusting slop continues.
Obviously Sager missed the entirety of John Green’s appearance on Fox News, in which he defiantly fought back the tears to convey the message that this awful but completely isolated and random event should not be exploited to revoke the core freedoms protected under the first and second amendments.
“We don’t need any more restrictions on our society,” Mr Green said, adding that sometimes our continued freedom comes at an awful cost.
While Sager stops her attack short and admits it is “completely unfair” and that she “feels sorry” for the family, it doesn’t prevent her from ending the piece with the question “Did you find yourself wondering why the Greens didn’t get off TV?”
The Greens are not fitting neatly into the script for those so called “liberals” that are happy to exploit the cold blooded murder of a child for political grist.
Presumably, Sager and her ilk would have no qualms with the TV appearances of the Greens should they have demanded the immediate passage of laws to make perceived threats a federal crime or to introduce hastily thrown together gun control bills.
These leftist vultures are the equivalent of the hordes of rightist neo-con hacks that professed hatred (yes, actual hatred) for the 9/11 victims’ families who opposed the subsequent relentless slaughter of thousands more innocent people half a world away in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The fact that their despicable smear machine has already ground to a halt in the wake of the revelation that gunman Jared Lee Loughner was a left-wing, pot-smoking liberal, rather than a flag waving tea party Sarah Palin supporter, is one blessing that the still sane can count.
Perhaps the only other is that in amongst a barrage of shameless partisan exploitation of another tragic event, Americans have been reminded that in the face of danger and darkness, there are still those who believe in preserving the values the nation was founded on, rather than tearing them apart.
The attack on Giffords and the other victims has led to some calls for stricter regulation of firearms.
For example, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, a New York Democrat, will reportedly announce legislation to limit high-capacity magazine clips.
McCarthy’s husband was killed and her son was severely wounded by a gunman in a mass shooting aboard a Long Island Railroad train in 1993, inspiring her to run for Congress as a gun-control advocate.
“There is one thing I’m sure about. This will not result in more civil discourse. Opposing ideologies will become further entrenched in their positions.”

Broader Implications of Giffords Attack
The assassination attempt on Gabrielle Giffords and shooting and deaths of bystanders is not merely a tragedy. The targeting of a political figure is intended to stifle opposition. Anyone thinking of running for office or working for a government official will have to now consider personal risk.
Another aspect that is troubling is the reaction of some members of the right wing. YouTube videos prepared by the shooter John Loughner have vague ramblings and enough paranoid-sounding “they are watching” references to suggest that he was disturbed. Some articles linking to the videos have comments at the end arguing, in effect, that because Loughenr was off beam, by implication no one is really accountable. For instance,
A looney. Sad when people cannot express their ideas and discuss anything rationally, however you will always have people like this in any society (left right and center) regardless of what precautions you take.
Yet news reports as of this AM indicate that Loughner did not act alone, which suggest that various exhortations against Gifffords had an impact.
There have also been calls to cool heated violent political rhetoric, as well as a postponement of upcoming Congressional vote to repeal the Obama health care plan (Giffords’ support of the bill was a proximate cause of opposition to her).
It is hard to know what to say about this event except to express outrage and extend sympathy to those who have suffered from this event. What do you see as the broader ramifications of this attack?

I fail to see what is wrong with asking this question. Clearly there will be blowback resulting from this, whether it comes in the form of restrictions on free speech or gun control can’t be predicted for sure, but something will likely come of this. You can have sorrow for the victims here and still consider implications beyond imprisoning or executing the shooter Stuck.
