Twelve-term Texas Congressman, Presidential candidate, and #1 New York Times bestselling author Ron Paul returns with a highly provocative treatise about how we need to fundamentally change the way we think about America’s broken education system in order to fix it.
Whether or not you have children, you know that education is vital to the prosperity and future of our society. Yet our current system simply doesn’t work. Parents feel increasingly powerless, and nearly half of Americans give our schools a grade of “C”. Now, in his new book, Ron Paul attacks the problem head-on and provides a focused solution that centers on strong support for home schooling and the application of free market principles to the American education system. Examining the history of education in this country, Dr. Paul identifies where we’ve gone wrong, what we can do about it, and how we can change the way we think about education in order to provide a brighter future for Americans.
Do you trust the government to educate your child? These scumbags change the 2nd amendment in textbooks to suit their purposes.
Guyer High School (and obviously several others) are complicit in attempting to condition students to interpret the 2nd Amendment in a clearly opposite manner in which it was intended. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are also misinterpreted as several commenters below pointed out.
This textbook, currently being used by Guyer High School, is attempting to redefine the Second Amendment to impressionable young minds. Parents, you must speak up and demand action. Investigate your child’s history book ASAP, and post more pictures in the comments below. Call your school and demand that revisionist history books like this are removed from the school district.
Textbook version: “The people have a right to keep and bear arms in a state militia.”
Actual 2nd Amendment: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Did you catch the sleight of hand?
A militia is a body of citizens enrolled for military service, and called out periodically for drill but serving full time only in emergencies. It’s a common man army of citizens, NOT soldiers. The citizens are called up in emergencies to protect the free State.
The 2nd Amendment says that a militia is necessary to protect a free State, so in order to be able to have a militia, the citizens have a natural right to keep and bear arms and the government cannot infringe on that right.
The textbook version implies that we’re only allowed to keep and bear arms if we’re in a State militia, a clear misrepresentation of the 2nd Amendment.
The Homeschooling Revolution

Opposing infringement on parental control of education and promoting alternatives to government-run schools is a vital task for the liberty movement. When government usurps a parent’s right to control their child’s education, it is inevitable that the child will be taught the values of government officials, rather than of the parents. The result is an education system with a built-in bias toward statism. Over time, government-controlled education can erode the people’s knowledge of, and appreciation for, the benefits of a free society.
This is why throughout my congressional career I fought against any legislation that infringed on a parent’s right to control their child’s education, especially any legislation that limited a parent’s right to homeschool. Many so-called education experts claim that parents who are not “government-certified” educators cannot provide their children with a quality education. However, the numerous studies showing that homeschooled children out-perform their publicly-educated peers in every academic category shows that most parents are more than capable of providing their children with an excellent education.
The Internet has made it easier than ever for parents to homeschool. Because of my interest in promoting alternatives to government-controlled education, this month I am launching my own homeschool curriculum. The Ron Paul Curriculum consists of a rigorous program of study in history, economics, mathematics, and the physical and natural sciences.
Older students will also have the opportunity to gain experience creating and running their own on-line business. Frequent written assignments will ensure that students have the maximum opportunity to develop strong communication skills.
Students and parents are invited to participate in on-line interactive forums. The goal of the forums is to maximize participation so the student is not a passive recipient of information conveyed by the teachers. Instead, the students are encouraged to actively engage with their fellow students so the students can learn from each other as well as from the program’s instructors.
Of course, many of the offerings, particularly in history and economics, reflect my belief and interest in the freedom philosophy. However, unlike the pro-statist curriculum used in government-run schools, the curriculum does not place promoting an ideological agenda ahead of ensuring that students receive a quality education. The economic curriculum will cover all significant schools of economic thought, but will emphasize the free-market “Austrian” school.
Parents interested in providing their children with a quality education that incorporates knowledge of the principles of liberty will find this program a good investment. The curriculum also does not shy away from addressing the crucial role religion played in the development of western civilization. However, the materials are drafted in way that any Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or atheist parent who wants their children to receive a top-notch education incorporating the history, philosophy, and economics of liberty, can feel comfortable using the curriculum.
I expected interest in my curriculum to grow over the years, as the young people who have recently become interested in the ideas of liberty marry and start their own families. These men and women will want to make sure their children’s education includes instruction in the ideas of liberty that was lacking in their government-provided-and-controlled education.
I am excited to be able to help provide the increasing number of parents interested in homeschooling with a quality curriculum that emphasizes the history and philosophy of liberty and free-market economics of the Austrian school.
It starts at home. If parents care about education, and maintain an influence in their children’s lives then social problems tend to disappear.
And yet if you happen to go to google news and I happen to have Ron Paul set up as a subject I want news on, the only thing that you find is a truly ridiculous critique of Ron Paul’s new book and curiculum.
Of course the author does not neglect to bring in a quote from the infamous “racist newsletters” that someone else wrote for his newsletter, oh 40 years ago.
Of course he also does not neglect to mention that shock it costs money.
Of course he mentions at least three times that Ron Paul wants your kid to be educated by watching youtube.
Not one mention of liberty or the constitution. Oh he does mention freedom in passing by saying something to the effect of “because apparently freedom is good.”
Got to love The New Republic, I can’t believe people fall for their schtick.
And just in case you still don’t believe in the MSM media bias, I added Ron Paul as a subject to bring me news on and lo and behold almost every article they recommend for me is completely negative on him. Fuck off google you NSA CIA shell corp.
In this day and age I’d keep my kids out of Government Skool even if meant eating Ramen Noodles forever.
get the government out of schools, end property-tax supported porkulus union teachers and their big fat pensions. Fire worthless teachers and administrators. Make the school systems private. Anybody could run better anything than the government.
That version of the second amendment is truly retarded:
Sergeant: “Hand me your rifle for inspection!”
Recruit: “No can do Sarge, it’s my right to keep it under the second amendment.”
Even the public school teachers put their kids in private schools, the same goes for state workers. They aren’t stupid, they realize the public schools unsuitable for a number of reasons.
It didn’t use to be like that, I still remember a time when they actually ttaught kids and succeeded to a large extent, but that was a long time ago before TV, computers, feminists, the medical industry, Marxism and other social engineers invaded the schools and twisted it to their own ends.
It was quite amazing. Kids didn’t need calculators, cell phones or pagers, let alone IPODs and desktops to learn. Of course the promoters of this electronic garbage don’t like to tell parents they’re just scamming the schools and the parents while giving the kids ADD and making them fat and sickly.
