100 YEARS

I used the lyrics from this song in one of my early Fourth Turning articles back in 2009. Five For Fighting is just one dude – John Ondrasik, a fanatic hockey fan. One of John Ondrasik’s friends read the article and sent it to John. He emailed me and told me the article really connected with him and he’d like to meet me. He lives in Los Angeles and told me to let him know the next time I got to LA and we’d get some coffee. I haven’t been to LA since 2003, so we never got a chance to meet.

I was reminded of this song this morning as Avalon kept playing it over and over for my youngest son, who turned 15 today.

I’m 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

I’m 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we’re on fire
Making our way back from Mars

15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

When you’re young you think you have all the time in the world.

Then you wake up one morning and there’s an old person looking back at you from the other side of the mirror.

Where did the time go?

You have a lot less time than you think.

Happy 15th Birthday to you, Mr. Young Quinn!!

You are very lucky to have such a fine, smart, loving father. Not everyone does, so don’t take him for granted.

But that doesn’t mean you should accept cheap presents. You have a RIGHT to good stuff, expensive even. Hit him up for a car … and not that crap Insight either. Get something with at least 300 horses. Tell him it’s important for you to drive quickly through the 30 Blocks Of Squalor. If that doesn’t work … threaten to leave. He hates it when people leave.

I wonder how admin shows affection to his sons,

if it’s anything like TBP, he berates and insults them, when they storm off, he offends and embarrasses them until they come back.

AWD says: I wonder how admin shows affection to his sons? if it’s anything like TBP, he berates and insults them,

Only if they post entire articles on the platform, other than that, he’s go ta go.

Just posting a partial article is like having sex with a condom on.

And I can post pictures of fat chicks, but not normal weight women in bikinis.

awe, I got my customary thumbs down. who doesn’t think their kids are beautiful? Lennon’s Beautiful Boy would fit here but I posted that song because it also mentions seeing an angel and I did that yesterday, did I mention she looked like my ex? I’m completely over her, thank god.

Stucky, I’m with you, but with one exception. Get him a beater, something cool that doesn’t run. He can spend the next year or two rebuilding the engine, which will also keep him working so that he can come up with the money for parts. When after countless hours of effort, he turns the key and gets to hear it run for the first time, it will be a special moment of accomplishment that he will remember all of his life. Not to mention that he will learn a lot in the process.

I can even think of a possibility. Find one of the old Pontiac Fieros with the six cylinder engine, from the last year of production when they finally made it a decent car, and then discontinued it…sort of like the Corvair.

Zara, u just reminded me of my first car with your sage advice. It was a 53 Olds 88 that my Dad’s co-worker had been using as a sort of shed; it will had hay in the back seat. He wanted it gone off the property. It hadn’t run in about 20 years and had 4 flat tires.
We towed it the 30 miles home and he & I worked on it for about 6 months. When it was ready, he pushed me with his pickup truck and after about 2 miles the old Olds fired up, black smoke pouring out the exhaust and one very excited 16 year old behind the giant steering wheel.
