A Dutchman rented a crane to descend to his girlfriend’s window and propose in an unconventional way. However, things went awry when the crane crashed into the roof of a neighbor’s house, making people wonder if it’s safe for the bride to say “I do?”

All other proposal scenarios looked boring and uninspired. So, the unidentified man in the central Dutch town of Ijsselstein decided to hire a crane to carry him to his loved one’s bedroom window. There, looking into his lover’s eyes from the height of the second floor, he planned to play a song and pop the million-dollar question.

But in next to no time the unsecured crane toppled into a neighbor’s house, emergency services spokesman Jelle Mulder told AFP.

What’s even worse, during an attempt to right it, the crane slipped and fell on the house again.

Neighboring houses have been evacuated and luckily no one was hurt.

“The people in the house the crane fell on are deeply shocked,” the ‘hero of the day’ said.

Local authorities will decide whether the house needs to be demolished after the crane is lifted.

Meanwhile, the fearless girlfriend did accept the marriage proposal, Dutch media reported. The lovebirds have gone on a Parisian holiday to celebrate.

With all these toppled crane images and videos I’ve seen since coming to TBP I can only conclude that they must allow idiots like bb to operate them. Most appear to be modern cranes and these things have gauges, warning lights and alarms to indicate when stability will be compromised. Even with all the modern safety equipment, they still retain their old school, gravity activated lift angle gauges (a dangling stick) and a chart which specifies safe weight to angle ratios.

If a crane can’t hold a human up,even with the boom all the way down. The crane is pathetic.
Cranes are rated by how many ton’s they can lift. There is a chart in the crane. How much it can lift at certain angles. The more you lay the boom down the less it can pu. I ran cranes a bit. The only thing i have seen is that really old crane could handle more weight. We got a new crane and hooked up a five ton block of concrete and the crane had a chart of what it was supposed to be able to handle. It couldn’t do even half of what they said it could. It was dangerous. We ended up hardly ever using the new crane and kept using the one buit in 1947.
This article is like someone has done something that shouldn’t be possible.

On a positive note, at least he managed to escape serious consideration for the next Darwin. I guess a twenty foot extension ladder wouldn’t have provided the dramatic effect he had hoped for.
