My personal choice for # 1 would be Calvin Coolidge and at the very bottom, would be Bush #43, who gave the banksters free reign backed by the full faith and credit of the American taxpayer which set the US economy afire with no money down, easy credit resulting in what perhaps may turn out to have been the catalyst to a global economic collarless. This debt device of financial destruction dropped by Dubya upon the global markets may turn out to be mega-tons more destructive than any misery the Anglophile Wilson could ever have visited on civilized society by dragging US kicking and screaming into the human horror story that was WWI.

Now, to answer your question, yes, it was prudent for the U.S. and Great Britain to overthrow the dictatorial Mossadegh. I like to transport my mind back into the context of the time in which any particular event took place. That time and place was Iran, 1952-1953. The Cold War was just starting to get overheated. Josef Stalin was still alive, Mao was in charge in China, the Iron Curtain had dropped on eastern Europe, and so on. That’s the fucking basic context of the times.

What’s wrong with revisionist historical analysis? Near as I can tell it considers ALL the information and facts available – not just the traditonal views – and tries to draw rational conclusions. All the dialecticians, from Socrates, Bacon, and Descartes on, would approve of the revisionist method. God knows they used it, though not always well.
The trouble with traditional history and its acolytes, the court historians, is that information, method, and their conclusions are limited by political power prejudices.
As for “conspiracy theorists,” that term is just name calling others who want to have a rational debate. Ad hominen arguments, like calling people tin hats, loons, conspiracy theorists, etc only shows thinking people that the name callers can’t think. It only shows that reason and logic confounds the name callers and they have to resort to sputtering denunciations to save face.
As for IraK, my disalter ego, we don’t think he’s worthless, otherwise he wouldn’t comment on TBP. We think he’s a prod to thinking, not spouting.
