What I wish we had is more STERILIZATION. It’s a tragedy that some people can even reproduce. What’s worse, it’s the dumbest loser people who seem to be the most fecund. 5 will get you 10 that this girl will be pregnant again within 6 months of having this poor baby.

If I had hugish money to allocate to philanthropic causes, I would offer free sterilizations with extra prizes to any dumb, drug-addicted female who wanted one, or who could be induced to have one return for an i-pad, say, or a cash award that she could spend on whatever dumb thing she wants.

Why aren’t welfare women and substance abusers being offered free sterilizations? It’s not that I want to have to pay for this, and in a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to pay for any of this. But this isn’t a perfect world.

It’s a matter what we’d rather pay for….. $3000 for a one-time event that covers all the bases, or $30,000 a year for each kid born to grow up fucked up. I figure pay now, or pay a whole lot more later. At this time, they can get them only if they have really serious health problems. Think of the money and misery they would save. It costs at least $10,000 and usually more for a singleton birth. Then there are the thousands per year for food, housing, and educations for kids who were born without a chance of benefiting from any of it. Then about $40,000 a year at least to incarcerate these kids when they grow up to be thugs.

And when you figure the costs of the damage just ONE violent criminal does, the price is cheap.

Because we value life so much in this country

@Chicago: we could easily get sterilization down into the $100 range if it was being done widely and without a major profit motive (for either vasectomy or fallopian tube block with “Essure” or similar). But I don’t see it happening, for multiple reasons:

1) The people who most need to be sterilized won’t do it voluntarily, for hopefully obvious reasons.

2) Forced sterilization, which was somewhat common through c. 1950, is well known at least among the educated and has a horrible taint from the eugenics movement generally, and association with Nazis in particular (though I’m not aware that the Nazis did much forced sterilization, mostly they killed people – whether Jews or the retarded). I don’t see it getting any social or political support in this climate.

3) Perhaps most importantly, with our increasingly thin veneer of democracy, votes “count” and you get more votes by herding stupid people than by intellectual appeal to smart people. You create stupid people by having them reproduce like rats. Does this sound like large parts of your adopted town or other large cities?
