I believe I featured that bridge in my Bridges Pictorial essay. Gorgeous.

I ONCE … JUMPED, not dove …. off about a 100 foot cliff. It was when I was stationed in Greece. My two buddies and I took a long drive up the Greek coastline. We pulled off the road to take a swim …. and there was that cliff. It took me, I shit you not, about an hour to jump off that fucker. Walk to the edge, walk back, to the edge, walk back … for about an hour. 100 feet is HIGH!! What made it more scary was that the water was clear as glass. You could see the bottom, and it looked like the water was just a couple feet deep. I landed with both feet flat, not toes down. My feet hurt like hell for the next several days.

I spent three years in Bosnia after the war. The whole bridge (like built in the 10th century) was destroyed. The right side of the river was Moslem and the left Croat Catholic. The rebuilding of the bridge was financed by one guy and a non-Bosnian. Great, wonderful, generous people on both sides of the river but not so great when psychopathic leaders take control.

“The town was fortified between the years 1520 and 1566, and the wooden bridge was rebuilt in stone. The stone bridge, the Old Bridge (Stari Most), was erected in 1566 on the orders of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman ruler. Later becoming the city’s symbol, the Old Bridge (Stari Most) is one of the most important structures of the Ottoman era and perhaps Bosnia’s most recognizable architectural piece, and was designed by Mimar Hayruddin, a student and apprentice of the famous Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. In the late 16th century, Mostar was the chief administrative city for the Ottoman Empire in the Herzegovina region.”

It blows my mind that structures built so long ago are still there and still useful. What will be left of our civilization in 500 years? Or two thousand years? The Hoover Dam, or maybe the footings to skyscrapers?

Stucky ,I used to think the same thing about trucking. Now it’s one of the best decisions I have ever made.Get to see the country and Canada plus make money then I ever did working for someone else.

I still think you have potential but you need to listen to my advice more often. You need to get a grip on that one thing you do.
