Texas becomes an open carry state today. Strange it took this long for that freedom/gun-loving state.

Meanwhile, my state (Virginia), is rescinding concealed carry reciprocity with 25 states–a step backwards for gun rights, although the state legislature may overturn this with a new law that allows reciprocity with the ENTIRE U.S.

And as a retaliation to Gov. McAuliffe (D), a republican state politician has put forth a bill that would take away the Governor’s armed security detail, saying “If the governor’s so afraid of guns, let’s make sure there are none around him”. Love that!

Rise Up, I’m in Virginia too. Although I’m about done with government at all levels, several years ago, my state delegate told me that they don’t get a lot of letters, calls, or emails on the issues, and that sometimes 4-5 of those will sway their vote. I don’t know if that’s really true, but it may be worth writing and calling. I hope they’re already getting slammed. Down here in SE VA, listening to local talk radio, there are a lot of self-described democrats/left-wingers who are gun owners. And then there’s the military.

Evidently though, Dear Leader is going to try to make new national gun laws via EOs next week. Now that the NSA is spying on congress, I fear that he may get his way. January, 2017 can’t come soon enough.

Hello fellow Virginian Teri! Sic semper tyrannis!

VA is a paradox regarding Dems with guns. Lots of down-and-out folks in rural Virginia who rely on government assistance are gun-toters. They are conservative about gun rights but vote liberal for the FSA stuff.

And so far Obummer’s EOs on guns have been pretty tame–only affecting a small minority of the general population since he is restricted to regulations and rules about federal employees. Let’s see what tom foolery he comes up with next.

Happy New Year, and keep your powder dry!

P.S. I’m thinking of retiring to SE Virginia in a few years. Are you near Lebanon? I want to be in the mountains somewhere around there or possibly NC. Away from the Northern VA madness.

There will be gun initiatives pushed this year, many on the state level but one on my radar is 41P.

I love that they are trying to disarm the governors security. I’d like to see that happen to HNIC’s secret service if he enacts gun control.

I wouldnt wish for Jan 2017 too much bc Hitlery is probably the most likely successor.

So that means that Scarlet Johansson can keep that pesky restraining order active but I can still be her boyfriend?

Rise up, Happy New Year to you and sic semper tyrannis as well!

I live way over on the other side of VA, in the urban Tidewater area (aka Hampton Roads). While not NOVA, we have our own type of madness down here. Most of the lefties around here who are also gun owners are city slickers, but like the rural folks, they staunchly support democrats, no matter what. Not that there’s a whole lot of difference between parties, but still.

But for my kids being here (the youngest is still at home), I’d move to a more rural area in a heartbeat. I’m thinking Eastern Shore or maybe even back to my home state, Kentucky.

@Teri, my bad….you did say “SE” but I didn’t pick up on that. We vacationed many summers in Virginia Beach but not for the last few years (love Mahi Mah’s restaurant on the boardwalk there).

Take care and hope to see more posts from you here on TBP.
