When it comes to raking in questionable dough via the abuse of political power, the Clintons are in a league all to themselves. In fact, their shamelessness is so rampant and sloppy, the only explanation is they simply thought no one would ever dare hold them to account.
Here’s the latest example, from Raw Story:
Student loan debt continues to be one of the largest economic issues plaguing the U.S., with the total amount topping $1.3 trillion. Hillary Clinton’s higher education policy touts debt-free degrees for underprivileged students. But is she being genuine in her efforts to address the issue?
While Hillary loves to rail against shady for-profit colleges on the campaign trail, she does have some financial ties to them that are likely to shape whether or not she holds them accountable for ripping students off.
It was recently revealed through Hillary’s emails that during her first year as Secretary of State she insisted that Laureate Education be included in the guest list for an education policy dinner hosted at the U.S. Department of State.
“It’s a for-profit model that should be represented,” she wrote in the August 2009 email, and as a result, a senior vice president at Laureate was added to the guest list. Several months later, former President Bill Clinton became an honorary chancellor of Laureate International Universities, which turned out to be incredibly lucrative. He was paid a cool $16.5 million between 2010 and 2014 for his role with the for-profit college.
Also consider that while 12 percent of the country’s students go to for-profits, a whopping 96 percent of them have to take out federal loans. As a result, for-profit colleges account for 25 percent of all federal financial aid dollars and half of all Department of Defense Tuition Assistance funds.
After all, without the sucker U.S. taxpayer, how would rent-seeking politicians get paid?
Some may argue that not all for-profit colleges are created equal, and it’s unfair to group Laureate together with the now defunct Corinthian Colleges, which was forced to cease all U.S. operations due to various state and federal investigations. But Laureate seems to be plagued with similar issues. That’s why the company decided to expand in Latin American countries rather than the U.S. with the help of Bill Clinton.
There are five schools in the U.S. that operate under Laureate’s umbrella. Walden University is a Laureate school in Minneapolis, and even though its parent company had the money to pay our former president $4 million a year, Walden charges students nearly $60,000 in tuition and fees for most undergraduate degrees.
Laureate gets 84 percent of its revenue from outside the U.S., and mostly from Latin American countries. The company faced a great deal backlash in Chile and Brazil, leading to the loss of accreditation for one of its Chilean schools in 2014.
Hillary’s biggest challenge against Bernie Sanders is how much money in politics has influenced her policy decisions. While both candidates address combating student loan debt and college affordability in very different ways, it’s critical to follow the money and figure out who is being sincere about solving the problem.
The truth is that Hillary’s higher ed policy isn’t very different from what we have in place now, which I will delve into in my upcoming column. Now her ties to the for-profit college industry make me question whether she’ll hold them accountable if she got elected.
Clinton herself was paid $225,000 for speaking at a 2014 event sponsored by Academic Partnerships, a for-profit education company that helps public and private not-for-profit universities move degree programs online. Jeb Bush was also one of its investors.
Let me guess, she did it because of 9/11, or because “it’s what they offered.” The only federal building this woman is fit to occupy is a penitentiary.

I don’t think Hillary’s supporters, or Democrats in general, care one whit about this.
And they will be a formidable force to face in the next election no matter what people may think.
Never underestimate a Clinton, it can actually be a fatal mistake if you do.
The Clinton Foundation is in place in order for Hitlery to receive money from foreign donors which would be illegal if given as a campaign contribution.
But Hey, What Difference Does It Make?
At the end of the day, unfortunately, Clinton supporters don’t care about this, and for that matter most of America doesn’t either. The Republicans have already lost this election and any talk about Trump or Cruz or whoever is now just for kicks and giggles. This was an uphill battle to begin with as the Democratic demographic (i.e. FSA and millenials) is growing while the Republic demo is declining. In fact, a case could be made that there must be serious soul searching on the part of conservatives if they ever want to win a presidential election ever again.
Let’s not forget that moveon.org was established when Bubba’s sleaze had become simply undeniable. As one Clinton apologist wrote:
“The president was less than honest and some would say he lied” and the mainstream journos started saying, yes, that’s true but let’s move one.
I guess that it’s time for George Soros to establish whatdifferencedoesitmake.org. I’m sure tinyurl would make it easy to post links.
I do think Trump will beat HillBilly into the ground, assuming she’s not indicted before then.
Politics rules, and we should not forget that the Clintons have lots of enemies. There is ample reason to think that a Grand Jury has been impaneled to decide whether her email dump includes clear evidence of influence-peddling.
Let us not forget that she had staff (Huma?) double-dipping with both the Clinton Foundation and the State Dept for a while. Do we think Huma will do 20 years in Pen Fed for this witch, on the hope that President H. Clinton will pardon her?
Frankly, I believe anyone who supports her is just breathing my air. I know that it’s human nature to embrace a belief and then endlessly rationalize it….but people who rationalize their way around her obvious criminality take this to a whole new level.
DC, just curious as a follow up to yesterday and your prediction of a bond crash, ware you implying it is better to just stay in cash and ride it out?
People who rationalize Hillary Clinton’s cronyism and obvious criminality are so bad that they’d invite Bill Clinton to chaperon their 16 year old daughter while she was otherwise alone in, say, NYC as a contestant for a beauty pageant.
People who defend and support Hillary Clinton would invite a known child rapist who was also a famous novelist to babysit their kids on a trip to Thailand.
I think most Hitlery supporters don’t care a whit about her nefarious activities, nor do they have any idea of her connection to the refugee crisis in Europe. All they care about is that she’s a Female running for President and “it’s about time”.
In the broader picture, were she to win the nomination I think Trump would mop the floor with her. As they say in the military, she offers a “target-rich environment”.
Jeeze, Jim, I’m not the guy to ask. I’ve been wrong on this crap for 21 years and counting.
I am utterly without a clue what to do myself. I’m half in Plan A, some in Plan B and some in Plan C, personally, despite the fact that whatever I have in Plan C represents a huge opportunity cost.
Plan A is “Things go on exactly as they have.”
Plan B is “Stocks tank, bonds tank, metals rally and then tank.”
Plan C is all of Plan B plus banks collapse (or accounts are simply bailed in.)
Plan D is the Zombie Apocalypse (TEOTWAWKI.)
I stay mostly out of stocks and bonds, which of course has been punishing during the stock market’s last 6 year, 200% rise. Would ‘a, could ‘a, should ‘a.
My guesses are that soon we either begin to fall in earnest, breaking strongly below the Feb lows, or we fall a little, then rally and go on to New All Time Highs in another complete defiance of gravity. This current couple-week rally seems pretty stretched, but even if it begins to fall, there’s no good way to know what’s likely until we break the Feb lows (if it even approaches them.)
I won’t know until we get there. Which isn’t much help.
I still think no credit bubble in history has held. This one is longer and larger than any before, so we are truly in uncharted waters. This one spread across the planet. It changed the way people live and work. I still don’t think it has much more to go, but who knows? I’d have said the same thing too many times to count since 1995.
So, I guess what I’m saying is, you pay your money and take your chances. I may respect the insights of others, but I’ve learned the hard way that those who forecast with great conviction are usually wrong.
If I could just keep what I have, and the promises of retirement payments to me were trustworthy, I’d be set for life. It is my DIStrust in all this that agitates me.
DC my own best scenario plan would be to buy a bug out abandoned farm in the Catskills or SE Ohio where prices are more reasonable. However as it goes, my timing is off as this ideal scenario would take place in about 5 years. But as I think all would agree on this website, time grows short, so I am just sitting in cash to see what happens and hope for the best. thanks for your insight as I think your knowledge is worthwhile.
Westcoaster,
I really think Trump is the only one that might defeat her and that even he will have a difficult time of it.
For a lot of reasons, not all of them exactly above the board in nature.
Hi Jim,
A now deceased friend of mine used to suggest that the thing to buy would be an RV park (and I suggested an old motel near farmland.)
A hobby farm is very attractive to me, but my geography is dictated by my wife’s current job and my sons’ homes. This is very limiting.
The other problem is that a hobby farm is 365 days a year work. No time off. No vacations (unless you pay someone to fill in, or coop with someone nearby.)
The last problem is that I see no way to wall out the zombies. During the 1930’s a man was prosecuted for not slaughtering and burying his own hogs that he never intended to sell. The SCOTUS backed this on the basis of the sophistry that the hogs he produced for his own consumption decreased his demand for (potentially) across state lines hogs, so the Commerce Clause justified the whole sorry mess.
There do not appear to be any times in history I can find where farmers were at the top of the food chain. Because farming is visible and fixed, it is always the first thing to be raided by politicians and robbers (or do I repeat myself.)
So I’m inclined to hope we don’t have a full-on TEOTWAWKI, and that I’ll be able to BUY what I need to survive.
But I agree wholeheartedly with you. This is a very difficult adventure for which to provision, given we have little clue what’s over the next hill.
Trump will have Swillery cussing like a sailor before this is over. Hope she shows her spots on live TV.
DC,
They once did the same thing to a guy growing his own wheat for use on his own farm as personal and animal food as well.
The way the ruling was worded left it open to actually regulate whether or not someone can have a simple garden in their back yard.
She needs to be prosecuted along with O for treason murder,Benghazi.Who Ok’d the stand down orders.Hill running arms to isis? Why is she not being prosecuted ,give the job over to someone that will
