I had this discussion with my doctor recently. He is a retired Navy doctor and he is about as blunt about the idiocy of bureaucratic intervention as any one I’ve ever known.

He says that, in his opinion, the only reason cannabis is NOT legal is because the government can’t figure out how to make it legal and taxable ONLY if you have to buy it. He says that the whole assault on home gardens is part of that long term strategy to limit people’s ability to grow their own medicine.

Now, he’s quite interesting to talk to and he’s from New Jersey, which gives his entire discussion a rhythm and tone I love to listen to. Some of the things he says I find it hard to grasp, but with his extensive experience I have to give his words weight and not dismiss them as the ramblings of an old guy.

He claims that the government crack down on pain meds recently is going to increase until they are sure that they will have a big enough clientelle to accept their rules on marijuana legalization. In fact, here in Missouri, the legalization failed ONLY because the law would have allowed it to be grown by only government approved vendors.

I don’t know much about the marijuana industry, having spent my adult life in career choices where random testing could have ended my ability to earn money to put away for this dream of ours. I had my priorities and I still do.

But, what my doctor says is interesting and has merit.

Weed is less damaging than alcohol -or tobacco- but that doesn’t mean it’s safe and problem free.

You’re better off reconciling yourself and your place in the world with reality than trying to escape from it. Weed, alcohol, the other drugs all keep you from doing this to one degree or another.

Indentured, here’s one: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/colorado-family-sues-marijuana-company-sweets-man-ate-before-shooting-dead-mother-his-children-1559586

There are many if you look for them, mostly not reported widely in national news anymore than other things the public has little or no interest in are.

A few days ago, the sister of retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Ann Day, was killed in a violent head-on crash at 8 AM on a road 4 miles from my house. Ann served 12 years in the Arizona State Senate and 10 years as an elected member of the Pima County Supervisors. Like her sister, she had a long and honorable public service record.

The car that hit her Toyota Prius head on at 80 mph (speed limit 45 mph) was a Chevy Impala driven by a 24 year old male “in a hurry to get to his son’s T-ball game.” Sheriff’s deputies noted he was visibly impaired with slurred speech. Ann was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver suffered a cut on his forehead. Marijuana and a glass pipe were found in his car. Blood tests showed high levels of THC. No blood alcohol, just THC. 8 AM. He has been arrested for manslaughter.

There are THOUSANDS of stories like this. Thousands. So don’t tell me it’s anecdotal.

High is high. Your mentally impaired. You are in no condition to make important decisions like those required when driving.

Maggie

May 14, 2016 9:36 pm

Well, it is true that driving impaired is and should be a crime. However, the crime and charge should be just THAT: Driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance.

Being charged with possession of a drug is nonsense if they find a bit of marijuana in the car. So what?

Here’s so what. State laws test for blood ALCOHOL content, not THC in the blood. Both kill thousands of victims. DUI drivers go to jail by the tens of thousands. Drivers impaired on marijuana, not so much. Not even close. Fix that, cupcake.

I’m really not a cupcake sort, but I suggest that there could be tests for THC devised and the punishment for driving impaired and risking lives should be severe in either case. The intent, supposedly, is to DETER others, as well as to punish the impaired drivers.

As I said, Nick and I are so removed from the marijuana culture from having been in Air Force related jobs that I don’t even know if I would be able to tell if someone was impaired from THC or alcohol, but I think I WOULD be able to tell if they were able to drive responsibly. And that should be the bottom line.

Time for everyone on this site to get on my bandwagon for the decriminalization of the POSSESSION of illegal drugs. Not manufacture, transport, or sale. That remains a felony, and you’re going to the big house. POSSESSION of an amount deemed to be for personal use, you get slapped with a misdemeanor offense, and don’t go to jail. Got it?

How fucking hard is that wisdom to understand?

Greetings,

I used to live in the West side of Phoenix, Az, not too far away from the sprawling retirement communities that reach out into the desert. Having lived there for 10 years, there is one thing I can tell you for certain and it is this: no one taking a prescription medication that impairs a person in ANY way should be allowed on the road.

The old people, with their buckets of medicare paid for narcotics, were an absolute menace. It was like being on the road with nothing but texting 16 year old girls.

SSS, the NBA has the most enlightened policy in the world on weed. It is against league rules for players to smoke weed. If you get caught with weed, or get in trouble with the law because of weed, the league comes down hard. That being said, the league does not test players for marijuana use. Be discrete, handle your business, and the league treats you as an adult. Compare that to the NFL. Test dirty for weed in the NFL, and your career is in trouble. A running back carries the ball 30 times and gets punished by tacklers, and he can’t chill on monday with some painkilling dope. You make a lot of sense.

This is bullshit.

1. 0 deaths per year? Really? No stoner car accidents? No strung out Monday morning workplace accidents? Nope. Zero. Zero deaths per year. Right.
2. Cures cancer? GTFO. Ever cleaned out a pipe or bong? (Not that that’s something most stoners tend to spend a whole lot of time on.) Ever look at the gunk that collects? That same gunk is in your lungs. Tell me that’s good for you.
3. Enforcement cost: I’m not defending our obscene police state, but people who dope themselves invite their own enslavement. Ask the Chinese.
4. Used medicinally throughout history. So were leeches and crocodile shit. So?
5. Not addictive: Total bullshit. What, you never knew anyone (yourself, maybe?) who turned into a miserable prick whenever his baggy ran out? Then he’ll be desperate to find some so that he can get his attitude straightened out again. And he won’t be too picky about where it comes from either. Any funky-smelling green shit in a zip-lock bag will do. Who cares where it came from or what it’s laced with. But he’s not addicted, no. Legalize it and he’ll still be addicted but at least he’ll be stoned all the time so it’ll be okay.

—-Admin @ presumably Albrecht

You’re the bozo. I’ve already related on this site the story of a 19 year old kid in Colorado who overdosed on marijuana and committed suicide by jumping to his death off a 4th story balcony. The Colorado Medical Examiner ruled his death as an “overdose due to marijuana ingestion.” And I’ve also related the story of a Tucson teenager who killed himself and 2 buddies by racing down a
mountain road at 70-80 mph with a posted speed limit of 30 mph and flying off into a deep canyon.
One survivor who said they spent the day smoking grass.

How many OTHER people are killed by these idiots. Check your blood pressure before you answer. Heh.

We commented on the fucking chart claiming zero deaths from smoking marijuana. That’s total, utter bullshit, and you know it. Don’t try to steer the argument to cigarettes. You’re a master at red herrings, and I’m not biting, nor is Albrecht.

Defend the stupid chart you posted POINT BY POINT or pack it in and raise the white flag of surrender. I’ll be glad to send you a large, white bed sheet and a flag pole if need be. And my resting blood pressure is currently 118/74. I win.

Who knows more about liberty, William Penn or Stucky Stoner? Hmm…

Note, too, Mr. “Reading Comprehension” nowhere in this thread have I advocated the state taking away your baggy. You came up with that paranoid pipe dream all by yourself.

I don’t think potheads should go to jail. But a nation of junkies will not be free. First because their addiction is a form of enslavement all by itself. Second because a junkie will sell anything, including his freedom, to get his fix.

Admit it. Your summum bonum is dope, not liberty.

Albrecht
