We had some friends over (our beer, their fireworks). We blew some shit up, and drank. It was ok.
Talk turned to politics and I had to leave. I would honestly be surprised if even one in one-hundred US citizens understood the double-barreled dose of reality our nation is cramming down its own throat.
Well, it’s pretty annoying hearing everyone go on about freedom, as if ‘the tyranny of King George’ was even in the same ball park as what we deal with now. The fact that so many are so ignorant of the fact that after independence, taxes and regulations forced on Americans immediately, and in almost every way.
And on a less philosophical note, the dozens of neighbors I have that apparently don’t have jobs to go to the next day lighting off mortars until after midnight, and waking my children up multiple times. Celebrating their ‘freedom’ from any normal responsibility I guess. That shit really got old for the last two nights now. Another popular thing to do is to go the day after when everything is cheap and light more shit off the day after. You know, cuz ‘murika and stuff.
Yesterday at the lake resort I was at I related the irony of celebrating the 4th of July three years in a row while living in England. The base always put on a big BBQ and fireworks show. I’m pretty sure my best friend and my wife were the only ones who understood why it was ironic. No one else seemed to have a clue.
