Moments later, NBC News reported that the agency was reopening the investigation and shared a letter from FBI director James Comey informing key lawmakers of the investigation.. .

More details from CNN which writes that after recommending this year that the Department of Justice not press charges against the Secretary of State, Comey said in the letter to eight congressional committee chairman that “recent developments” urged him to take another look.
“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear pertinent to the investigation,” Comey wrote the chairmen. “I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.”
Comey said that he was not sure how long the additional review would take and said the FBI “cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant.”
Law enforcement sources say the newly discovered emails are not related to WikiLeaks or the Clinton Foundation. They would not describe in further detail the content of the emails. It’s also unclear whether the emails in question are from Clinton herself.
Clinton’s campaign learned of the news while they were aboard a flight to Iowa. “We’re learning about this just like you all are,” a Clinton aide told CNN.
The surprising news jolts a presidential race that had largely settled as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump struggled in national and key battleground polls. Now, Clinton will be placed back on the defensive and forced to confront yet again questions about her trustworthiness.

Ready For The Crash?
No, the ka-boom today was not due to the Killary news — although that news is both real and a big deal.
Someone obviously got to Comey. Maybe he figured out that while Obama would almost-certainly pardon Hillary on his way out the door irrespective of who wins the election Comey was not going to get any such favor, and if Trump wins he was potentially exposed to not only impeachment but possible criminal indictment himself.
Tampering is a big deal; formally, it’s called Obstruction of Justice and comes in a lot of forms. It’s also a well-worn way to wind up in the Graybar Motel for a very long time, and it’s also usually rather easy to prove when it happens.
One of the major issues that anyone who whitewashed or otherwise interfered with the investigation would have comes from the fact that a pardon would remove the ability of the person so-pardoned to take the 5th Amendment, because it is an unconditional grant of immunity.
If you get pardoned then everything related to your work product, everything you did, everything that can be subpoenaed and your personal testimony related to same are all fair game to use against anyone and everyone else.
Perhaps — just perhaps — Comey got wind of what’s coming, and that he’s not in the “protected class.”

Supposedly the FBI found a “device” in an “unrelated” probe. In other words, it appears that in point of fact classified data may well have been distributed even further than we first thought!

Best guess on this news is that the FBI found classified material that came from or was sent to Hillary on someone’s machine that had no clearance at all, or was cleared but not appropriately for what was found. If that’s the case, and it proves that Hillary distributed classified information to someone who was not cleared then she’s dust. And given the proximity to the election I have to surmise that whatever they found it has to be pretty-much this sort of “breaking bad” or they’d never release it now.
PS: What set off the move southbound in the market? That’s far more likely related to a report that a Brexit challenged was ruled against, which hit the wire at the same time, roughly, that the Killary news did…… Why do I say this? Have a look at the currencies…..

In the latest stunning revelation in today’s saga involving the FBI’s second probe, moments ago the NYT reported that the new emails uncovered in the closed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server were discovered after the F.B.I. seized electronic devices belonging to Huma Abedin and her husband, Anthony Weiner.
The F.B.I. told Congress that it had uncovered new emails related to the closed investigation into whether Mrs. Clinton or her aides had mishandled classified information, potentially reigniting an issue that has weighed on the presidential campaign and offering a lifeline to Donald J. Trump less than two weeks before the election.

I’m not sure if I even understand the point of this. We know she sent and received classified documents on unsecured servers and transmitted them to unauthorized parties without proper clearances, they admitted that much. It all came down to intent and Comey determined there was nothing there and that no prosecutor would ever bring charges against someone who had no idea that her actions were unlawful. How could additional classified documents in her emails change that regardless of who they were sent to?

You are correct. I read this as a way for every HRC supporter to say “Well, since this is a subject of FBI inquest, all questions and comments about it are premature. Comey’s letter Friday only said they have discovered additional e-mails that need to be analyzed, and that “the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant”.
In other words, out of an abundance of caution, they are reopening the case should they find a big smoking gun. There may be nothing there, but it’s more likely it’s a nuclear explosion and not just a smoking gun. Some reports are that there is a crisis within the FBI and the lower ranks were going to leak a bombshell and Comey is trying to defuse that.

Early this year, Gallup polled americans and found that 32% identified themselves as dems, 29% as reps and the rest as independents. Given what we know about the tiny crowds showing up for Clinton and Kaine compared to Trump and Pence it’s hard to argue that there’s more enthusiasm in team blue and that team blue voters are likely to turn out in disproportionate numbers to vote for Clinton-Kaine. In fact, a significant portion of team blue members supported Bernie Sanders and were not much inclined to vote for Hillary after the primary season. Since then they’ve seen Wikileaks revelations that Clinton and the DNC were conspiring to cheat Bernie and that Hillary has a dismissive attitude toward them. None of this tends to support a thesis that there will be big team blue turnout disproportionate to their numbers in the overall electorate.
Polls that I’ve seen by both Investor’s Business Daily and Fox news had very similar results. Within a percentage point or two, they both said that those identifying as dems supported Hillary over Trump by 81-8 percent and that those identifying as reps supported Trump by the same margin, 81-8. Both IBD and Fox polls showed independents and others favoring Trump about 41-30.
Given those consistent percentage support results within each group, it’s really impossible to have Hillary ahead unless you include a disproportionate number of dems in your poll.
A couple other factors at play are that undecideds tend to break for challengers and against incumbents. Clinton is not an incumbent but is completely identified with the status quo to the extent that voting for her is considered a vote to continue things as they are.
Also, as in the “shy Tory” factor in Brexit there’s a good chance of seeing a hidden Trump vote appear. We’ve had unprecedented mainstream media demonization of Trump and implicitly, at the very least, his supporters. In the face of such uniform condemnation, just as pro Brexit voters faced in the U.K., a portion of voters for the position the media are all trying to discourage will be quiet about it, calling themselves undecided or even publicly saying they support the media favored position only to vote their true sentiments. There must be some of that going on here.
Even just taking the IBD and Fox polls and adjusting their composition, to the percentages found by Gallup, you go from 1-4 point leads for Clinton to similar leads for Trump. Add the tendency of undecideds to break for the challenger and the hidden Trump vote and a reasonable assumption might be that Trump is up by 5 or more points right now. Before the FBI reopened its investigation.
I don’t know anyone that’s ever answered a presidential poll. I know I haven’t. Have any of you?
I always understood that the undecides break for the incumbent since that is the known quantity and the undecided is not a risk taker or already would have commited to the outside. Does anyone have any 2012 data in this regard? The only consideration that I have is that a significant number of Trump supporters are keeping it on the qt to avoid the kind of treatment meted out to the homeless black lady who attempted to protect his walk of fame star on LA.
I have no data but I’ve always heard that it’s the opposite, that undecideds break for the challenger for the reason that they already know the incumbent. If they were okay with that they wouldn’t be undecided. They’ve already resisted casting in their lot with the known quantity and just want to feel that the challenger is a decent enough choice and they’ll go with him.
But, again, I have no data.
For the record, I’m fine with letting El Coyote stay north of The Wall.
If, a big if, there is something here, it isn’t about classified material or such. It will likely be e-mail threads discussing the process of deleting the missing e-mails. One of the questions Clinton and her aides were no doubt asked was whether or not work related e-mails were deleted intentionally. If anything Abedin saved and e-mailed to herself shows that intention, and I am 100% confident they did do that, then Abedin and her e-mail corresponders are in deep shit.
I can see the reasoning some have that this is a Lucy with the Football ploy by the Clinton campaign, but I find it unlikely. You wouldn’t do this with early voting going on, and you wouldn’t do it because it would really hurt the down-ticket even if, just the day before the election Clinton received an all clear. What most likely has happened is that the Abedin material shows a coverup was in operation, and I think it likely that Comey did the only thing he could do to keep it from breaking out into the open in a leak- that was probably communicated to him by his own agents.
This type of analysis that evolves from someone reading one of the posts here and developing some themes and ideas to the next step is exactly why I have been reading TBPer thought processes for years.

Huma Abedin’s excuse for forwarding state.gov e-mails to here yahoo.com account was that “it was too difficult to print using the state department e-mail system”. How lame is that? She can’t pick up the phone and call state dept. help desk to give a hand? Not believable to me.
Add to that is if they used non-state.gov e-mails for official business, they violated
U.S. records preservation laws for archiving official records (e-mails are official records).
[I realize this is old news on this story, but it bears repeating.]
Are these Clinton aides so incompetent as to not understand the rules on handling sensitive/classified material? Of course they are, so they dug their own graves on this.
I’ve been a gov contractor with a security clearance in the past and we had to take a yearly training course on exactly how to treat these communications, whether it be e-mail, fax, private shipping (FedEx/UPS) and US Post Office. The training includes what the penalties are for not complying.
Looks like another busy weekend for Dr. Feelgood.
I’m not getting my hopes up yet. For the MSM to spend so much time talking about this development makes me wonder how big the news must be that they are suppressing. Plus the usual Late Friday release makes my BS detector jump.
I really hope Comey had to reopen the investigation because he was threatened with an outright mutiny. I would sleep better knowing that at least a few FBI agents are tired of letting such chumps make the entire Bureau look like a bunch of drunken birthday clowns.
