Bill Clinton Bashes Obamacare As The “Craziest Thing In The World”

Tyler Durden's picture

In a staggering moment of honesty caught on tape, former President Bill Clinton admits to a group of voters in Michigan that Obamacare is a complete disaster and is wreaking havoc on the middle-class and “small-business people.”  Per the video published by the NY Post, Clinton says that Obamacare is fine for those who are eligible for subsidies but admits that that hardworking “people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half and it’s the craziest thing in the world.

You’ve got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care, and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half and it’s the craziest thing in the world.

On the other hand, the current system works fine if you’re eligible for Medicaid, if you’re a lower-income working person. If you’re already on Medicare or if you get enough subsidies on a modest income that you can afford your health care.

But the people getting killed in this deal are the small-business people and individuals who make just a little bit too much to get any of these subsidies.

Per The Hill, the comments from Bill come at an awkward time as Obama is set to deliver a “major speech” in Florida touting the astounding success of ObamaCare.  Moreover, the comments seemingly contradict Hillary on the issue as she has largely embraced Obamacare on the campaign trail while suggesting that small modifications may be needed to “fix” certain components of the legislation.

If you listen to the madness long enough, every once in a while the talking heads will slip and actually speak the truth.  Though, as always, we’re sure Bill will be pulled off the campaign trail, in short order, and reprimanded for his moment of honesty before being re-released into the wild with new talking points singing the praises of Obamacare’s many “achievements.”

How Much Money Have Humans Created?

The Money Project is an ongoing collaboration between Visual Capitalist and Texas Precious Metals that seeks to use intuitive visualizations to explore the origins, nature, and use of money.

How Much Money Have Humans Created?

The dollar amounts are so staggering, that simply telling you how much money humans have created probably wouldn’t convey the magnitude.

However, by using data visualization in this video, we can relate numbers in the millions, billions, and trillions to create the context to make it more understandable.

Starting With Context

The median U.S. household income of $54,000 is a number that most people can relate to. It’s enough money to save up to buy a car, or maybe even a house depending on where you live.

Multiply that income by eight, and that number is now big enough to count as being in the top 1% of earners. People in the “one percent” make at least $430,000 per year.

Famous celebrities and businesspeople have fortunes that dwarf those of many “one percenters”. Actor George Clooney, for example, has a net worth of $180 million. Meanwhile, author J.K. Rowling is estimated to have a net worth of roughly $1 billion according to Forbes.

Zuckerberg takes things to a whole new level. His net worth worth is $53 billion, thanks to the value of Facebook stock. Lastly, Bill Gates regularly tops the “richest people” lists with a wealth of $75 billion – though lately that number has been a little higher based on stock fluctuations.

However, even the wealth of the richest human on Earth is not enough to get up to our unit of measurement that we use in the video: each square is equal to $100 billion.

HISTORIC TIMES HAVE ARRIVED

Guest Post by Ol’Remus

The Tea Party and the Alt-Right are surface expressions of something neither of them fully capture, momentary flecks in a pyroclastic flow. The Tea Party, classically activist, was the last polite grievance by a now largely defunct middle class. Ignored and betrayed by turns, it metamorphosized into the Alt-Right, classically territorial, kickers-in of doors, fronted by berserkers talented at holing the enemy. It sows confusion and fear by being everywhere and nowhere in a merry game of whack-a-mole, most visibly the Pepe meme, after Kek, the frog god of chaos in ancient Egypt.

Just as the Tea Party expanded and metamorphosized into the Alt-Right, so too is the Alt-Right expanding and metamorphosizing. The game is afoot. With ominous groans and shuddering the worm is turning, shaking off the dust of a century and alarming the apparatchiks. Whether the collectivists retreat, attack or go mad is of no lasting consequence. The “business not quite as usual” of the Trumpists will be the good old days of their future.

When a movement grows in size and influence as fast as Alt-Right has, it means most of it was in place long before public notice by our keepers. When the mainstream feels compelled to notice, i.e., trash, its ideas it suggests more disquiet than they’ll confess, and when its ideas are denounced before they even rise to general notice, it reveals fear akin to panic.

Conditions are right and opportunities are plentiful for the Alt-Right to become the major force in America and Europe. The counterattack will be ferocious of course, but it’ll be one ham-handed blunder after another, the Alt-Right has consistently been a step or three ahead of the dull-witted and much despised “establishment”. Crowds are forming up. Historic times have arrived.

Eric, this is why it’s important

Guest Post by starfcker

Our good friend Eric Peters often rails against the idea of safety mandates on automobiles sold in the United States. His argument is that safety equipment raises prices and diminishes choices, while adding weight and diminishing fuel economy.. I personally like as safe a car as possible, as long as it looks nice, and is fun to drive. I live in a very crazy fast driving metro (south Florida), so I see all kinds of nasty ways people can fuck up in a car. And I am always grateful at how many people not only live, but emerge from crumpled tangles of metal in one piece, seemingly ready to do it again.

Speed kills, or at least it used to, which can suck in a place where everybody drives like a bat out of hell. I credit the federal mandates and the brilliant engineers who figure this stuff out with saving countless lives that would otherwise be snuffed out in an instant. Randomly. Anyway, i’m always amazed at just how good cars have become, and how good your average driver is down here, because there are actually a lot less wrecks than there ought to be, due to the combination of high speed and a large immigrant population new to the finer points of automotive handling at such speeds.

Elon’s Space Pinto

Guest Post by Eric Peters

Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket recently had trouble getting off the ground – well, in one piece – and it’s an awfully long way to Mars.space-pinto-lead

There’s also an awful lot of money involved.

Taxpayer money.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts. Which Musk hopes to wrangle for his Space Pinto – er, SpaceX rocket. It’s the ballistic version of his Tesla electric car.

Both seem to have issues with catching on fire.

And burning through cash.

Houston, we have a problem.

Maybe that’s why SpaceX is shopping conspiracy theories that “someone” (hinted-at rival for government payload payola United Launch Alliance) deliberately monkey-wrenched the rocket – like Gary Seven, from the original Star Trek series, Assignment Earth. Or maybe sniped at it with a rifle from the roof of a building more than a mile away, Texas School Book Depository-style.

All the Ways You Can Comply and Still Die During An Encounter with Police

Guest Post by John W. Whitehead

How do you protect yourself from flying fists, choking hands, disabling electrified darts and killing bullets?

How do you defend yourself against individuals who have been indoctrinated into believing that they are superior to you, that their word is law, and that they have the power to take your life?

Most of all, how can you maintain the illusion of freedom when daily, Americans are being shot, stripped, searched, choked, beaten and tasered by police for little more than daring to frown, smile, question, challenge an order or just exist?

The short answer: you can’t.

Now for the long answer, which is far more complicated but still leaves us feeling hopeless, helpless and vulnerable to the fears, moods and misguided training of every cop on the beat.

If you ask police and their enablers what Americans should do to stay alive during encounters with law enforcement, they will tell you to comply (or die).

Aborting the Trump Revolution

Guest Post by Patrick J. Buchanan

Aborting the Trump Revolution

In taking that $915 million loss in 1995, and carrying it forward to shelter future income, Donald Trump did nothing wrong. By both his family and his business, he did everything right.

In a famous 1947 dissent, Judge Learned Hand wrote:

“[T]here is nothing sinister in so arranging one’s affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. … Everybody does so, rich or poor; and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands: taxes are enforced exactions, not voluntary contributions. To demand more in the name of morals is mere cant.”

This writer’s father spent his career as a tax accountant who studied tax codes and utilized every permissible deduction to keep his clients’ tax bills as low as legally possible.

That was his business, as it is the business of every accountant, including those who prepare the returns of the politicians and journalists piling on Trump as some sort of scofflaw tax cheat who has evaded his moral obligations to the state.

One needs a machete to cut through this hypocrisy.

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“In poor countries, officials receive explicit bribes; in D.C. they get the sophisticated, implicit, unspoken promise to work for large corporations.”

Nassim Taleb, The Bed of Procrustes

“The mischief springs from the power which the moneyed interest derives from a paper currency which they are able to control, from the multitude of corporations with exclusive privileges which they have succeeded in obtaining in the different States, and which are employed altogether for their benefit; and unless you become more watchful in your States and check this spirit of monopoly and thirst for exclusive privileges you will in the end find that the most important powers of Government have been given or bartered away, and the control over your dearest interests has passed into the hands of these corporations.”

Andrew Jackson, Farewell Address

Are They Planning to call The Election a Fraud if Trump Wins?

curtain-behind-1There is a very interesting rumor from behind the curtain. What they are concerned about is that Trump has raised more from small donors under $200 than any previous Republican in history. Even John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012 collected less than $64 million. They are concerned that more small people are donating to Trump and that means it is the small people who vote, whereas hedge fund managers and bankers can give her millions, but one vote.

They are starting to set the stage for calling the entire election a FRAUD and pinning the blame on Putin. That’s right. They are saying already in preparation that Russia is hacking into the voting systems to make sure Trump wins. There have been rumors for years that Obama would declare Marshal Law and suspend the election process. Interestingly enough, now it is not the lunatic fringe who are starting to say that would be appropriate if Obama can claim the election was a FRAUD.
