With all the turmoil in the last few weeks over websites, censorship, free speech, and leftist tech corporations banning sites they don’t like, I thought it would be a good time to clarify my vision and purpose for The Burning Platform. First, TBP is not an alt-right, white supremacist or pro-nazi website. I also don’t consider it a pro-Republican website. It’s been built by being anti lots of stuff. I don’t want to be part of any group that would have me as a member.
My philosophy is practical libertarian. I want to be left alone to live my life as I choose. I don’t care how others live their lives. The less government, the better. The purpose of our military is to protect our country from invasion, not policing the world. The Austrian School of economics makes the most sense to me. Keynesian economists are either liars or brain damaged. I’m a strict Constitutionalist. I despise Wall Street bankers, the Federal Reserve, liberal politicians, GOP establishment politicians, neo-cons, fake news corporate media, the military industrial complex, government apparatchiks, the surveillance state, and the Deep State oligarchs.
The site’s patron saints are Ron Paul and David Walker. The mistreatment of Ron Paul by the corporate media and the GOP establishment during his 2008 and 2012 campaigns for president was the motivation for me to begin writing. The name of the website is taken from a quote by David Walker which I believe sums up the dilemma facing our country. Our fiscal situation is now far worse than it was when he made this statement in 2007. But still, the ignorant masses continue to mindlessly sleepwalk through life staring at their iGadgets as the American Empire accelerates towards bankruptcy and a great fall.

The original intent of creating this website was to have a place where I could post my articles without being censored. Seeking Alpha began changing my articles and eventually banning me. Financial Sense black balled me. They both sold out to Wall Street. After having a falling out with my original web master and then running the site on the cheap by myself for a few years, a massive denial of service attack in 2014 looked like it would be the end of TBP. That is when fellow blogger Mike Krieger and TMWNN came to my rescue. TMWNN fought off the denial of service attack and has protected TBP ever since.
TBP went from a half assed shoestring operation to a more professional website. My generous readers stepped up with a significant level of donations and the big boob ads get plenty of clicks from my dirty old man demographic, generating decent ad revenue. The site has changed dramatically over the last few years as my annual visitor totals have doubled from 4.4 million to 8.8 million. Not bad for some guy doing this in his spare time.
As the TBP community has grown I had to make a choice. I could just write an article or two per week and leave the site dormant for most of the week. I have very limited time, especially during the workweek. It became clear to me the community wanted to interact on a daily basis, so I decided to turn TBP into a mini Zero Hedge with 15 to 20 posts per day from various writers. I’ve been thrilled to have multiple TBPers become great contributors to the site with an outstanding array of articles and viewpoints. I’ve become more of a publisher/editor and less of a writer. I prefer writing, but keeping this community entertained and involved on a daily basis is more important.
The entire point of this website is to piss people off, wake them up to the evils being done by their government, uncover the fake data pumped out on a daily basis by the government and media, reveal the propaganda techniques used by the Deep State to keep the sheep sedated, and warn them of the financial peril that unequivocally will destroy our country. I view everything through the lens of the Fourth Turning. Strauss & Howe’s generational theory makes total sense to me. There is nothing that has happened since I read that book in 2007 to make me question it’s hypothesis. We are in the middle of a Fourth Turning and I’m trying to help people navigate through it.
TBP is about free speech. I post articles that I agree with and articles I disagree with. I try to post things that will provoke a vibrant discussion. I don’t think TBP is an echo chamber. The flame wars in the comment section proves that. I rarely moderate comments and it takes a lot to get banned from TBP. But I am the benevolent dictator of TBP. If I believe a commenter is just attempting to troll and disrupt, they will get the boot. I used to tear apart government data reports on a daily basis. I don’t do it anymore. I don’t like repeating myself. When I have the time and energy I’ll write an article. In the meantime, I will try to keep this site up and running for all of you.
I also attempt to use humor as an antidote to the never ending doom we subject ourselves to as critical thinking people who can see what the future holds. I use Cloudflare, Go Daddy, and Paypal. What they have done to other websites could be done to TBP in an instant. We are living in dangerous times. Many people don’t like what we have to say. When the really nasty portion of this Fourth Turning gets going, who knows what censorship and 1984 like measures will be taken by the government. I’m sure we are already on a list of subversive websites. But, with the dedicated behind the scenes help of TMWNN, we’ll do everything in our power to keep this free speech zone open and fighting the good fight.

Like you I have this at the top of my daily read list. I am a kindred spirit to Admin, and periodically try to add some humor and warning to fellow followers. I always wondered what lured Admin to build this incredible site that provides truth, and old America ways. People like the Hardscrapple Farmer sustain my belief that there is still decent people in this country.
I guess then my only surprise is the admission that some of the base of this site is supported by boobs. Not complaining mind you, as at my age all you can do is look.

To me, TBP is the only site I know that isn’t pushing a particular ideology, isn’t solely one person’s opinion (like, for example, Market Ticker), and doesn’t seem to have been corrupted by commercial interests. It reminds me of the earliest days of Zerohedge, when ZH was revealing some ugly but true wall street insider info and had not degenerated into a tabloid.
TBP is also the only economic or political site where I bother commenting any more, as ZH and others have been overrun with paid trolls and the 25th-percentile-IQ Yahoo-comments types.
Jim, thanks for running TBP and allowing anonymous comments. I don’t know why TBP still works, but I’m glad it does.
I agree with you about ZH. I started reading there about 6 years ago, commenting about 4 years ago. I still do occasionally, but many of my favorite people no longer show up in the comments section. I do still read there, as they post valuable information, but much of it is tabloid level, click-bait type nonsense. ZH also post an alarming number of trackers. When I pause ghostery on that site, my browser slows to a crawl. Salon is probably the only place worse than them. TBP is great, and I appreciate what Jim does. Its one of my first stops when I have the time. I keep saying Im going to send a prospective article and see if Jim wants to post it, but I never get around to it.
The comment section on here does entertain the hell out of me, too. You guys are the best. I took about a month long hiatus from here and everywhere else, glad to see everything is still the same.

A literal and allegorical burning platform conflagrating at the end of an era whereby ideas may be tested and challenged. Where flames of free speech rise into the sky and light up the night in a blaze of glory that will either burn eternal, or soon be snuffed out leaving only the ashen remains of what once was, and could be again.
And, to a lesser extent, a virtual / digital airport bar where people from all around the world can fly in and find respite between destinations; keep up with current events, engage in some lively conversation, listen to some great music, stare at a few babes, have a few laughs, and vent some frustrations on the way.
TBP is why the internet was made.

Thanks Jim. TBP is one of my favorite sites. It plays an important role in a world where “news” has devolved into something akin to Soviet era propaganda.
I canceled my local paper subscription a while ago and now disperse the old newspaper subscription money to fund to sites like this to help preserve what we have left of the First Amendment.

Your statement of your philosophy so closely matches mine and is what brought me here in the beginning. The “flame wars” in this comment section keep me amused and keep me thoughtful. I wish I could write like Jim and the other great contributors and commenters on TBP to express what I feel, it’s such a gift.
But I can’t write so I come to TBP many times a day after I found you years ago, a place to read and expand knowledge using facts, not opinions, even the occasional troll is entertaining.
I guess the fear I felt years ago about the path this nation is on has been calmed thanks to Jim, TBP, and this sites many fine shit throwing monkeys.

I like the TBP and agree with Mr. Quinns assessment of our economy and enjoy his personal adventures be they his commute along the 30 blocks of squalor or trips to the Jersey shore. The other contributors are worthwhile reading too.
That said, I’m now 65 and have given up on ‘political theories’. There are only two principles that matter. “The tragedy of the commons” is the first one and “The Law of the Jungle” is its necessary corollary. Both are why civilizations keep ending up on ‘Burning Platforms’. People are biologically programmed to do what is best for them and all else is artifice and deceit and that is why we have the ‘Tragedy of the Commons’. This leads ineluctably to the second principle “The Law of the Jungle’ when the commons is used up.
This is why Ron Paul went nowhere and why Trump is president of the United States. As George W. Bush said, “This sucker is going down” and people either rationally or inchoately sense that now. Trump’s ‘America First’ and build up our military policies show that he, intuitively or consciously understands the ‘game is up’ and only the strong will survive.
Put more diplomatically the United States can only keep on consuming more than it produces because our ‘dollar’ is accepted as money by the rest of the world. The reason our dollar is accepted as money is not because it is backed by gold or because the rest of the world ‘likes’ us but because we are the dominant military power on the planet. Lose that and we have the pound or the yen. Convertible but only into real money!
When this ‘sucker’ goes down, 1000 shares of Amazon won’t buy you a bottle of Cipro and a single Marine Division will be more valuable than all the oil in Saudi Arabia because you can’t get the latter without the former!
Unit, we are also programmed with a bit of altruism. I’m sure you can see it everyday around you.
We humans are tribal and to live in monstrously large society goes against the grain and is the source of most of the conflict going on these days. Tribal warfare was common and often too destructive, so familial relations between tribes was also common in order to keep the peace. The tragedy of the commons comes into being in large societies and the law of the jungle is muted when the people who live together want to live together.
Our problems’ solution is to create a structure that allows the division of labor to manifest without at the same time creating a welfare/warfare system. You’d think humans could do that? First order of business would be for education to include a huge, big, dramatic warning about worshipping higher-ups, as these sociopaths are perceived to be. In other words, Emerson ought to be the main subject in school, if school is the right word for where the young learn about certain things they need to understand to become free of tyranny.
To me TBP means truth. Sure it can be raw and unfiltered sometimes, but the truth is the truth.
Free speech, as long as you don’t talk about the truth of God’s word, right stukfuk?

Thanks RiNS for your comment on my post “A Theology for the 21st Century”. I wrote it for my Great Nephew who goes to Jesuit High School in Tampa. He sent me 3 articles about “proving the existence of God”. It was like someone was trying to prepare him for intellectual battle! lol.
So, I had to explain to him that such logical arguments are not the point. I also felt like sharing with a young inquiring mind some thoughts that I have found useful — especially from a man of science.
We all have a “faith” or a belief that life is worth participating in or even a reason for getting out of bed in the morning, but we may not have “crystallized” such thoughts into a meaningful way that reconciles with one or more major religious traditions. If you don’t believe life is worth living or has meaning, you probably end up in a downward spiral. Funny how so many avoid downward spirals in their lives. You would think there would be more since it so easy to let yourself go.

I got lured to TBP by one such article. Talk about bait and switch, I expected to find a group of guys singing kumbaya and discussing the bible. I didn’t pay attention and once when I was waxing poetic about water or the creation story, both figure greatly in Genesis, old Stuck punctured my party balloon telling me to stop masturbating in public. Dick.
Anyway, I made an effort to interact with these homos and promptly got attacked by 2 or 20 idiots. You could never tell back then because dopplers popped up to confuse you with a Potemkin army bent on your destruction or bloody retreat into lurkerland.
So they had me going for a while until I decided to pull out all the stops. If people are going to discuss your conception, by golly, I know a few cuss words. And it doesn’t take much to dopple somebody. Like Gayle said, folks can be helpful. A couple of guys joined in on my side to even the battle. I didn’t win but my silent partners turned a potential scalping into a minor gutting.
It doesn’t mean that once you run the gantlet, your in. I got into another free for all where the fuckers really got to me, I thought I’d throw in the towel but then the god of this blog, let’s call him Admin, intervened like a benevolent god and told me to take a few days off but to come on back. Who can say no to that?
We should have a lot more blacks and beaners here, I make an effort to mention things that might get noticed but it’s not a site for everybody. Mostly, it’s for folks who have an ear to the ground listening for a distant rumble.

Really. But, from the context (Admin might have called me a “fucking neocon”), I brilliantly ascertained that it was an insult. So, I told Admin that I was coming to his HOME to beat him up! . Really. That’s how fucked in the head I was back then.
Moral #1 what TBP means to me: It literally changed me .,. my perspective on politics for sure, and economics, and culture. But, most importantly — please don’t think I’m being overly dramatic — Jim and you guys changed my very outlook on LIFE itself. Really. And my gratitude is eternal.

I’ve always been prone to depression, even as a child. The curse of the Stucky Family DNA. I’ve been pretty open about my family life here. I’ve written about perhaps THE most depressing event of my life ….. when the state of Washington arrested my son, sent him to a mental institution, and diagnosed him as Paranoid Schizophrenic, and proceeded to pump him so full of various psychotropic drugs cocktails that it altered his personality … for the worse. I didn’t think I could survive that. Many days I wished I was dead. Some days I plotted how best to accomplish suicide. Yeah, it was that bad.
Moral #2 what TBP means to me: I have friends here. YOU helped me through my Darkest Nights. You gave me hope. You may very well have saved my life. Friend, foe, or acquaintance …. you might never fully grasp the depth of my gratitude.

Ah, Stucky, you are breaking my heart here with the reminders of WHY I came to this weird little cast of characters assembled on this blazing stage that is TBP. Once upon a time, I noticed a post on a little blog out there still called the Silver Bear Café (I really began to grasp how very evil the military industrial complex in which I worked around the time Ron Paul was marginalized by the evil empire when he was exactly what the GOP needed to embrace.) I followed the post HERE to TBP for additional information about 30 blocks of squalor and got so entertained by the sincere banter between obviously smart people of different stations and locations in life that I continued to visit from time to time. Then, I decided, after one too many glasses of wine, to comment. After a bit, I sent a post about my experiences in the Kingdom during my Air Force years to JQ in an email and he replied that he would let me sign in and post myself, but he wasn’t doing anything with all my photos. It was kind of like “Yeah, whatever… you can post that but I am NOT gonna mess with it.” From time to time, I share an article or video or ask a question about something I am preoccupied with, but mostly I just read and comment and make a lot of notes.
Currently, I am bogged down trying to assign the role certain societal institutions may have played in the stream of current events. For instance, why is it that so many of us can see that the CongressCritters should probably all be exposed for the lying on-the-take scum we know they are but the powerful people in the CorporateCreature Realm wine them and dine them and convince them they have the country’s best interest in their back pocket, along with their heart and love. What in the world could have happened to a country that managed to land an invading force at Normandy to save the world from tyranny or so we thought? Why have our country’s citizenry become so frightened of being HONEST they are willing to accept the big lies and in doing so, they are allowing their own destruction? When did Charity become Entitlement?
So, that’s how I ended up at TBP, shielded from growing piles of monkey turds by Stucky, my knight in shining Teflon. I thought AWD was a former Air Force comrade… Bruce aka ‘Ski’ had a penchant for fat chick magazines. That was another thing most of the crowd here like about me that makes my goofy comments (at times) worth putting up with. I don’t get all bent out of shape about the small shit. And a military dude who had a couple of sleazy magazines in his desk drawer did not constitute an armed inquiry. I simply put my own playgirl picture on my clipboard and called it a day. So, when AWD died, it seemed to bring out some real signs of this being a community.
I tend to play a clown, though I am capable of deep thoughts with the best of them. People either “get” me or they suspect I’m slightly goofy. Like Stucky, the last ten years have seen enormous changes in my life. For Nick and I, the 2008 election was a time of some hard decisions about where we wanted to “be” when the SHTF. While we had planned to retire as soon as our kid got himself on track to support himself, we managed to do so a bit early when Nick’s father left us a bit of his life’s earnings. With cash in hand to pay a Mennonite to build our log home, we bought some land and started a plan.
We are not survivalists or separatists or even preppers. We simply found living in the suburban slave tracts (am I allowed to use slave as an adjective or is that my white privilege showing?) springing up in the areas surrounding Tinker AFB in Oklahoma to be depressing as we watched pasture after pasture turn into concrete streets and foundations of very large homes on very small lots. After leaving the military, then working in the Military Industrial Complex long enough to see how very corrupt it all is. The military is a system in which military leadership pretend to be doing what is in the interest of the country when they sign for contracts for weapons systems or training equipment. When they are given high paying jobs by the big corporate contractors the requisite ONE YEAR after they retire, it is a simple matter to transfer that allegiance to a company paying them for their sphere of influence in the military community. Those we ask to play a role as stewards of the public treasures, both blood and financial, are in it for themselves.
It is the ultimate human flaw.
What Jim Quinn has managed to do here is assemble some people who are willing to speak fairly honestly with one another with snarky humor and some pretty classy wit… (Really? 34G? I’m trying to envision that one myself and I’m sure one of the No Nipple crowd will be here shortly to make sure none of you STMs post really naughty pictures of women’s breasts. As for me? I am being quite a bit more circumspect for a variety of reasons.
Most of them have to do with rabbits. And gardens. And deer camp in the moonlight on a lovely autumn evening. And big white dogs that walk with Jesus in my dreams.

I wanted to respond to this comment in particular. First, to say my own “welcome back.” TPB is much better with you around. Second, to say that you do indeed have friends, or at least friendly readers here. Third, to say depression sucks. I tend to lean more toward subconscious thoughts (nurture) more than genetics that make some of us more prone to it than others, but it amounts to the same thing. It cannot be fought on a conscious level–which is what we’re all told to do (suck it up, deal with it, etc.)–that is just a fight against oneself and you end up continually battered.
Hold only good and positive things in your heart and mind, eventually you subconscious (and perhaps your spirit) will get the memo.

TBP is a touchstone for ideas that feed those with curiosity
I first read Rothbard after graduating college in 1971. He rearranged my political, economic and epistemological foundation for all these years since. Virtually over night I transcended constitutionalism and became an anarcho-capitalist. The reasoning for me was ironclad: Government, in any form would end up evil because it is, at branch and root, force. Period (“a dangerous servant and a fearful master”). The constitution was created as a devise to restrain that force. It failed miserably. We now have a government that is larger than ancient Rome by some multiple. I came to believe that if mankind was to thrive it would have to create a society that would dispel the use of force, or threat thereof against the innocent as the final arbiter of human interaction; a voluntarist society.
TBP has giving me the chance to advance that cause with people who are soulmates, that remnant who already know the path we’re on will lead to ruin and misery and seek new horizons for sovereign individuals to follow.
Suggesting maximum individual freedom for most people angers and scares them senseless. They can’t imagine a world without being ruled by their betters. TBPers want out of the cage. So do I.

What does TBP mean to me? Most importantly, it helped me realize I AM NOT ALONE in my thoughts and distrust of the government. The mainstream media does their damndest to make us feel we are in the minority and flat out wrong when we don’t support their political point of view.
It also reinforced my belief that change will be difficult and take a long time; every individual must see reality clearly and build systems to work around the obstacles and protect themselves personally and financially. When the SHTF, your readers will have been better prepared and fare much better than most.
Your articles are well researched and, for sure easily understood and to the point. I probably forward 2-3 a day to friends referencing recent conversations we may have had.
Keep up the good work – and don’t let anyone put a label on you. If anything your site is a poster child for free speech.

There are very few places where someone can throw in their two cents without loggin in with Farcebook, Google, Disqus, etc. I contend that only sites that allow anonymous comments will get people to comment honestly – even though I assume everything and everyone is discoverable by IP. Most such sites quickly get destroyed by trolls, though. How this place hasn’t is beyond me, but then there’s a lot of shit that’s beyond me. 95% of people couldn’t handle the candor here. That someone like Darknlovely can read here and extract the good from the crappy is to her 34G credit. Even when Billy used to razz El Coyote for his ethnicity, their back and forth wasn’t deeply malevolent. And EC’s gotten better and better. People blow off steam, but they get pulled back from the edge by others. Llpoh guilted me away from halfheartedly agreeing with the Joo hatred. I love Jackie Mason too much for that. Admin’s column about the kid he knew who overdosed probably made a few people step back from antipathy to blacks. I don’t think we’re consigned to a coming race war. I just don’t.

What does the TBP mean to me?
To me, it is one of the few great places for freedom of speech’s last stand. If I leave any legacy at all in this world, other than a more heavily armed populace, it will be what I contribute here through your site. Without it, many of us would not have the voice, or at least the platform for our voices, that you provide. For that, I thank you.
At any rate, time and distance have been creating some perspective for me these past few months, rumors of my death having been greatly exaggerated. 🙂 FWIW, I’m finally home and I’ll be back writing and posting on a more regular basis shortly. Admin, this post is a great reminder to us of what you, and TBP, are all about. I don’t scour the net looking for alternative websites because this one has all I need and want. And it is just short of amazing that TBP lives on, given the increasing censorship happening across ALL media. Had HRC won the presidency, the FCC would have surely been aggressively moving to shut down free speech across the Internet and airwaves.
As I’ve said before, yours is the ONLY website I’ve every contributed money to. I lost the most lucrative gov contracting job I ever had on July 1, but have been picked up on another one in September (far less pay but enough to keep the lights on and mortgage paid). So I’ll be contributing once again before the year is up.

I love TBP, and try to stop in most days. I mostly came here in the beginning (about 3-4 years ago) to read Jim’s articles. The style reminds me of a life-long friend of mine that is a terrific writer but rarely writes anymore. I also found that I liked reading the comments here and compared to the trash spewed on most other venues I found it worthwhile.
Over the past year or more I found that some of the contributing articles are also very good reads so I have TBP as one of my regular stops.

There used to be a document that circulated thru the Pentagon back in the 80’s and early 90’s called The Early Bird. It was an early cut and paste of the major newspaper stories that contained DoD data from all the major screeds. Lived my life in or near small town Merika. I automatically imagine what each of you looks like and set each of you in my imagined community setting. A couple of you are sitting in a 3.2 bar, one of you lives in a metal building surrounded by chain link and barbed wire. First and last post – Jim, I don’t know how you and those behind the scenes do it. I used to do a weekly email news update newsletter and it took gobs of time much less every day.

My understanding of the broad theme of western decline (fake money, corrupt gubmint, falsely enriched banks, genuinely impoverished citizenry) goes back to before I got out of grade school. I’ve lived with the shadow of “It’s gonna blow!” forever. I have gotten tired of it as decades went by.
Still, TBP is worth a look almost every day. Admin’s brilliant incisions into the recent events and data are worth my time because I don’t even want to try and fit that sort of analysis into my daily life anymore. If I saw BS, I would call it though. He locks it up so tight there’s never been a reason. Being hyper-critical myself, that is quite a feat.
HSF’s contributions are always a treat. Powerful description delivered almost melodically provides a peaceful and green oasis for the mind for a few minutes to hours whenever he gifts them to the site.
Mr. Gore of SLL always has a different and interesting take on topics of the day. Enjoyable to read as well as challenging to any fixed viewpoints.
And there is a lot of writing talent on display from less frequent contributors. Francis Marion comes to mind, Stucky’s contributions in the past ranged from historical grandeur to down home and practical (glad to see you are sticking your big toe in the pond again, Stuck), Stephanie’s grown up here and our missing correspondent from the UK is well…greatly missed. Sorry for not recognizing some of you by name, we do know who you are, but I have to get my head back under the hood of a bunch of inter-company financials.

Seriously, thanks for what you do. There are very few places that aggregate a great selection of articles where the comments mostly contribute to the discussion. Unlike Zerohedge where morons rule and the Tickerforum where if you don’t agree with heir meister you get a headache…

Jim, I first got hip to you at Director Blue, who would reprint some of your posts on Philly and the bang up job being done to the residents. I spent my summers in s Philly in the 60s unloading the empties at my Uncle’s beer distributorship. At the time, he had a lip lock on Schmidts. So reading about the desolation of a nearby neighborhood was sad.
Over time, I dropped Ross(a neverTrump) but started coming directly here. I’d say the past year, I’ll cruise by at least once or twice a day. I really like the wide range of posts and think Francis is a wonderful writer. Some posts from commenters also cover a lot of territory.
Finally not being a cheap son of a bitch, I try and hit up the sites I frequent at least once a year. I believe I sent you something a few months back. I appreciate the time and great effort.
Glad you weren’t flattened the other day. I used to have respect for truck drivers but driving across Texas many times, I’ve seen some shit. Now? I’m extremely cautious when they’re around.
