I forgot Mark Twain’s advice; “Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.” I wasted oxygen arguing with one idiot who claimed there was no such thing as deviance because 10% is not deviant.
I wasted even more time explaining that 10% was bullshit. One of the earliest sex researchers, Alfred Kinsey estimated 10% of the population was homosexual. Unfortunately, he polled College students who tend to experiment and prisoners (we know what goes on there) and asked if they’d ever had a homosexual experience. 10% said ‘yes.’
Later researchers like Masters and Johnson used a more representative sample and asked if they were homosexual (not just an experience) and they estimated that 2% to 4% of the population was homosexual (ok, average 3%.)
When gay spokespersons are asked why they continue using the 10% number, they say because it has “more impact.” Can you say bullshit?
