It depends on your definition of “brink”. Dick Cheney said “deficits don’t matter” – another of the things he was wrong about. It seems to me we’re very close (if we haven’t passed it) to the point where the debt cannot be reversed (even as a percentage of GDP). It can probably be monetized for some period after that point, but by then collapse is inevitable. I’d liken it to being in a canoe in the middle of a wide river approaching a waterfall. there’s a point where you’re too close to the falls to be able to paddle to the shore and grab the last available tree branch.
Imagine if enough people could just stop paying everything. If the economy collapses all bets are off. Stop paying insurance, credit cards, loans, etc. Who would enforce any of it? We could just all stop paying if the economy collapses . The fake economy must remain in place with threat of bad credit looming overhead for TPTB to have control.
And that is the Nuke that the people still have.
