My pet peeve is with people with no understanding of math or how research is supposed to be done repeating to me stupid shit that they’ve read on Buzzfeed or Huffpost. These smart phones are like owning your own gas station but not having a car. Plenty of fuel but no way to use it.
I’m in favor of paying property taxes on property while it is mortgaged but once owned outright you should not have to pay them any longer. It should be limited to your primary residence.
Don’t you STILL benefit from certain services from your town even after your house is paid for?
Fire, police, EMS, snow plowing, road maintenance, free library, and even schools if you have kids in school afrer the house is paid off.
Who pays for all that? If you live another 30 years after being de-mortgaged, is it right to use those services free for those 30 years?
What about the person who pays cash for their home? Maybe they have 3 kids. So, they never pay any taxes for all the services they use. Doesn’t seem right.
And I fucken hate taxes!! But, aren’t they a necessary evil, sometimes?
You want to trust them to give you an honest and reasonable bill??
What if the fire department determines their costs based on volume. More fires they fight = less cost to you. Seems like a reasonable way to do it. What if they only had three fires the previous year …. and the costs come to $25,000 per fire?
You are gonna be pretty pissed when they come to put out your small kitchen fire. Or, you’ll be inclined to try to put it out yourself … and then watch in horror as your $200,000 house goes down in flames.
Some services simply don’t work out well when privatized.
