Oh man that was sweet. Heard it on the radio many times but never saw the enjoyment all the band members had in the performance. Thanks for the posting and the positive vibes from the Band! Another great art of America that will be sorely missed.

Edit: I was the first to post and I don’t feel any different; I wonder what motivates Maggie?

That version was done for the movie The Last Waltz directed by Martin Scorsese and, not sure if you were aware, is far from the original version of the song. The Staple singers are singing background here, not in the original.

Also, according to Robbie Robertson, they just made up the lyrics to the song to fit the music. The words have zero meaning attached to the song.

All in all still a great song. I almost wore out their greatest hits cd.
