Given that, it’s hardly surprising that the Prairie State lost a net 33,700 residents in fiscal year 2017, according to the Census Bureau. Also not surprising is the fact that the mass exodus from Illinois was the largest of any state in the country with lower taxed, lower cost of living states like Texas and Florida posting the biggest gains.

Of course, the net population loss masks the true gross outflow of Illinois residents as it doesn’t account for natural births/deaths. Assuming that Illinois has the same natural population growth as the U.S. as a whole (0.7%) implies that the state lost a staggering ~125,000 residents in aggregate, or roughly 1 man/woman/child every 4.3 minutes.
Meanwhile, adding insult to injury, the domestic migration out of Illinois was enough to push the state down one notch on the state population ranking tables to just below Pennsylvania. Per Illinois Policy:

While we could be wrong, the last we checked folks were no longer on the hook to pay Illinois taxes after making the decision to move to another state. Meanwhile, efforts to offset the lost tax revenue will only result in an acceleration of population declines in the future…

Lately I’ve been working in in northwest Indiana, near the Chicago area. I listen to a local Chicago AM talk show during my morning drive. The state of Illinois is full on corrupt, yet the voters keep voting in thieving politicians. When I meet people from Illinois, not a single one of them like living in that state. Most talk about moving out when they retire. Its easy to condemn, but its really sad their thinking they are stuck there, getting property and income taxed to death. I just want to say move away now, screw what the city of Chicago has to offer; the city and the state are both bleeding tax payers dry.
Also, shooting and murder numbers are reported like baseball scores.
Only problem is we ( other states ) will have bailout the corrupt sons of bitches.
Like the judges on the State payroll don’t have a conflict of interest when deciding pensions.

As a pseudo-native of NC, I hate the idea of them coming here, but take heart in something I heard a few months ago.
Texas, regarding the massive influx of Californians they have had these past few years, which was troubling the Texas GOP. But apparently, according to TX GOP data, the transplants are actually more conservative that the native Texans. Seems there is something of a natural selection going on, or rather a self-segregation. The conservative, freedom loving (i.e. smart) Californians are simply voting with their feet and getting the hell out while they can.
Lets hope that applies to the Illinois crowd as well. Makes it easier to separate the sheep from the goats if they do it by themselves! Of course that makes places like IL and CA even more unsustainable, but the less normal people they take down with their ships, the better, I say.

This late I don’t know if there’s anyone left reading this but a few weeks ago the Illinois Supreme Court reversed itself and said that the state can cut pensions.
A point that is obvious but nobody has touched upon it.
Other than retirees,the ones leaving are most likely the talented young people or people who have the means to leave.
The future doesn’t look good for Illinois.
One thing to keep in mind is that aside from the Chicago area and other metros, most other Illinois people are decent and not socialists. Unfortunately Chicago rules the roost. We want to get out ASAP and move to a state with constitutional gun laws. Our challenge is that for now we’re stuck here as my parents are close and are aging. There’s no one else that can/will help. Once they’ve moved on we’re out of here. Fortunately I have a job that allows for that. I truly feel sorry for the many that can’t.
The unfortunate thing is these niggers are moving to Indiana.
