I believe that 1 dies for every 10 ascents of Everest. No thankyooverymuch. The self-preservation gene is missing in many people, it seems. The woman has climbed Everest 9 times. She is really pushing her luck.
Having been born in Nepal she is already genetically adapted to the high altitude and in a much better position to withstand the rigors of the climb than the average low land climber no matter what physical condition he is in. Also she is making $5000 a climb, hopefully tax free to help support her family. Like many Asians I see here in SE Asia they do what they have to to get by and don’t whine about it like most Westerners.
My guess is that 95% of the people denigrating her on this site could not even make it up Mt. Whitney in California which is only 14,000 feet and you can walk up the damn thing.

I would like to stand on Mount Everest just to see the view but climbing it not so much. I might have been able to do it when I was 18 but now I can only dream.

She’s got a fascinating story of success from some very humble beginnings, and an obvious zest for life. She doesn’t let fear keep her from the life she loves and wants to live. Most of the folks I see are paralyzed by fear. They think about doing adventurous stuff, but can’t accept any danger in their lives. Fuck it, you’re going to die one way or another. Might as well actually experience a bit of real life before the grim reaper comes and takes you. I admire her. She’s a badass.
I think he was at 29,000 ft, about where WWII bombers and jets cruise. In pilot training, we went to 25,000 ft in that altitude chamber and half of us took our masks off and signed our names. In about 3 minutes, we were just making a squiggle. She was doing the smart thing.

The sherpas do all the work. You just pay the big fee and follow them up the hill-BFD
And to think Sir Edmund H. did it before globull warming. It was like 100 degrees colder back then.

Almost couldn’t get past the first paragraph but decided to gut it out and make the ascent.

What doctor in the world would sign off on letting a pregnant woman climb the worlds highest mountain?
Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if at least half of this story turned out to be fake.

She has Tibetan high altitude genes…some of the sherpas ascending have done it without oxygen…But Everest is always dangerous because of the weather.
