THANKSGIVING QOTD

I picked up my oldest son and his fiance at the airport last night at 11:30. They flew in from Colorado for Thanksgiving. I just finished cooking up some bacon and making some pancakes. Nothing like pancakes and bacon with some Hardscrabble Farmer syrup. We’ve got the whole family together. This only happens a couple times per year now.

We head off to Phoenixville this afternoon to my wife’s sister’s house for a fun Thanksgiving dinner. The guys occupy the living room, watching football, drinking beer, busting balls and starting to doze off after too much turkey.

The boys all love hockey, so I got tickets to the Flyers/Rangers game on Friday. Friday is also Avalon’s and my 28th anniversary. We’ll celebrate on Saturday by taking our whole clan to a great Italian restaurant in Skippack. So it should be a fun couple of days.

I’d like to thank all the contributors, commenters, and lurkers for making TBP a fun place to go every day. Enjoy the holiday and don’t go along with the lemmings and shop on Black Friday. Refuse to play the consumerism game.

So on this very cold Thanksgiving day, what are you thankful for and what are your plans for today?

Out here in Commiefornia behind enemy lines, the resistance is waning but we manage to eek out a decent meal with what family that will venture from their states of solitude and run the risk of border check point searches. I blame no one for staying home and not willing to risk the magical removal of all this liberty when you cross the DMZ. Here’s to all on this thanksgiving day! May God smile upon His people and give them wisdom to change and grace to cover their folly. God bless you, TBP. I read you daily. You are very necessary in my life, my friend. Thank you.

Sounds like a great couple of days for you and yours, JQ. Enjoy it, brother.
Loved the cartoons. Funny stuff. A vital ingredient in these times.

Thankful for too many things to list, but this venue and your moderation is near the top.

At the risk of sounding like a FB post, I’m cooking a contribution to the dinners at 2 families.
Mine, and my S.O.’s.
My addition is stewed sauerkraut and 2 kinds of kielbasa…fresh and smoked flavors.
-adds a nice variety to the bird, stuffing, corn, green bean casserole, taters, gravy, & punkin’ pie.
The nephew had a novel method one year….he used 12 White Castles buried in the bird as stuffing. Try it.

The pointy ball games are a distraction of sorts, but something to galvanize around, for the guys.
Friday, I’m going to go watch futbol at the high school level, as my alma mater is playing for the State Championship in their division. I’ll see some good, old friends, and the ball players won’t be taking a knee, or acting like some arrogant jerk demanding admiration, if they score, on a great play.

I’m jealy of your gang going to see the big boys skate real fast, on a slippery surface, wearing boots with metal rails for soles, 3/16 of an inch wide, while using a twig to try and catch, pass, and shoot a rubber disk past the fool with mega-pads, between the pipes to smack the twine.
Exciting thing to watch in person, at the pro level, especially if you sit reasonably close.
Plus, there’s always potential to see a donnybrook break out.

Enjoy yourselves, monkeys.
Can’t wait to hear some of the family holiday dust-up stories that were experienced, if conversations turn socio-political, and God forbid, escalate into fisticuffs.

Safe travels to all. Be careful out there on the roads, toads.

~ with gratitude,
Lil Guy

Yeah. AHEM… about that.

Everything was going well. Then the topic of Trump versus Chief Justice John Roberts was broached as I may have casually mentioned something regarding black-robed mullah’s ruling against the will of the American people. In so doing, during the ensuing lively debate with a libtarded female hostess, I guess I mentioned a recent New York Times headline regarding black robes, towel-appearing headwear, and how judges now side with misogynic bearded men over the reproductive rights of young Islamic girls and women in America. I’m also told there may have been profanity used during my portion of that exchange and that Thanksgiving may already be ruined?

And that was just breakfast.

Next up. Lunch and dinner.

After Thanksgiving with most of my nuclear family at our own house, some of the non-crazy ones here will probably make it over to my ma’s where the extended family will be celebrating. There’ll be at least one lib and probably a few crypto-libs, so I may raise a toast to Brett Kavanaugh just to spice things up.

El Coyote, everybody has their preference, but I prefer the Osmond’s sped-up version of this song, which they did in concerts, in what’s called the “Motown Medley.” The whole video is about 4 minutes but this specific songs starts at about 2:40.

Hardscrabble, they were a good band, and good people.

Of course, they were the first band I fell in love with as a kid, and Donny was my favorite, like all the other young girls. But as I’ve grown older, Merrill (the one with black trim) became my favorite and I think he’s the most talented. He’s also the lead singer, with Donny and Jay (drummer) as co-leads. They’re all talented and as energetic as you want a band to be.

They were also very hands-on with the crowds back then. They personally collected the cards, letters and even a cake from the fans. Don’t know if you could really do that now.
I also love how the girls are all crying at the end.

As a Georgia resident, I am thankful that Stacey Abrams is not going to be our next governor. That of course is tainted by the fact that Brian Kemp IS. They should have just given the seat to the Libertarian if they REALLY wanted a race to make history.

I am also thankful for the wonderful couple who came by today (yes, on Thanksgiving) to purchase a futon that we have been trying to sell on Craigslist for over a year. How wonderful that such free market exchanges can still take place in a nation that is deep into the hell of government intrusion into every bit of our lives.

But I’m also thankful that there is still enough freedom left for this website to operate and give us all a forum to vent and get educated.

Have a great Thanksgiving and a capitalism-filled black friday (for as long as we are still allowed to call it that).

I’m thankful to see gasoline prices go down (at least in my area $2.07 and still falling.) That means most everyone will have more money to buy the cheap shit they don’t need at Walmart for people they don’t like. The economy maybe will survive thru another year and we can all go to heaven in a little rowboat.

I gave up on goats after about four years, horrible animals. Hardly any meat on them, constantly getting into stuff you don’t want them getting in, almost no self awareness of their surroundings, and the billy waits for the instant your eyes are looking elsewhere so he can try and knock you on your ass just for fun. The only advantage is their insatiable hunger for poison ivy and prickers. Haven’t missed them for a second.

Go figure.

Tell me your funny story and I’ll tell you mine. MC. Oh, what the hell, here’s mine.

My son was born Nov 22. His due date was Nov 8 and to be quite honest, I had resigned myself to being bloated and pregnant for the rest of the year. Nov 18, I was standing in the commissary checkout line, called over the manager and asked if I might get taken to the front of the line because I was actually ten days overdue but figured I could NOT deliver the kid while getting groceries as miserably as moping at home.

He was one of those mamby pamby types and didn’t want to upset the rest of the customers. This was early in the 90s and pregnant was not supposed to be debilitating, but exhilarating, possibly empowering. That was the era that decided exposing the baby bump was very cute, but before women lost their minds and forgot that exposing the baby bulge into the final months was appalling.

The commissary manager, who was civil servant then I believe (I know they federal employee union at some point, perhaps, but I just remember his wrinkled shirt and bow tie under a visage sporting a ratty mustache over pursed lips disapproving my even asking for preference in line. I could see in his eyes that I just might have to bag my own groceries if he had his way.) So, he offered to let me sit in a chair near the front until my cart worked its way forward.

I agreed to the concession and asked the couple behind me if they could move my cart forward for me. They agreed and tossed the mambypanager a really dirty look on my behalf.

(You may not believe it, but many times I shopped at Tinker AFB Commissary near a holiday time and waiting in a line that circled the entire store before snaking its way into the real waiting line. For this particular visit, the line had begun just a few carts before the winding waiting line, which fed two bancs of registers. Yes, the savings on quality food and NO TAXES made it worth the waiting, most times.)

I’d only taken a few steps toward the bench when I heard laughter and clapping behind me, which caused me to turn. A very cool Chief Master Sergeant, in full dress (I think there was a leadership school graduation that day) had taken my cart and pushed it to the front of the line. When the manager walked toward him, the Chief (in those days men really were men) asked “Which register will she be going to?”

It is only sort of a Thanksgiving story, but a good one, I think.

The real Thanksgiving that year, Nov 24th, involved people travelling to see the baby and cooking the food I’d bought when the Chief taught mamby pamby a lesson in humility.

It also involved projectile vomiting by my tardy son when my milk actually “came in.” I was horrified, but my brother-in-law almost fell off his chair laughing.

Am awaiting a call from some nice folks in St. Louis. Is a discomfort not unlike being two weeks overdue.

Now, you tell me yours!

But the part I do get is that there are lots of normal people here that share a lot of my concerns. It helps to keep me from blowing a gasket.

I’ve cooked for two days and only have to run the dishwasher one more time, but I’m grateful that I didn’t have to tolerate my almost ex son in law. Made Thanksgiving have new meaning for my daughter too. Enjoyed having my grandsons, but sad to see how they are brainwashed and captured by those gadgets.

I’m thankful to see my husband looking alive. Last Thanksgiving was very subdued, he was mid-way through his ten weeks of chemo, half dead in a recliner for ten weeks losing 54 pounds. This one we drove the five hours to his parents and had a more typical holiday.
