What to do First

OK, step one is to see where you fall on the political compass.  You might be surprised.  Take the test first as you don’t want to have anyone’s own political leanings influence your responses.

https://www.politicalcompass.org/test

Then you can watch Sargon take the test and talk about his own thoughts.

What the hell is -2.75 and -4.0 minus of? does that mean you are -4.0 further left of center?

Funny, I came out almost dead-center, just ever-so-slightly Authoritarian, yet I want to gas the kikes, deport all post-1965 demographics and install White Sharia. Behold my centrism!

Perhaps gassing the kikes, deporting all post-1965 demographics and installing White Sharia *is* the centrist position now?

Maybe we’re the moderates?

Flea – you are not near as economically conservative as you think. You consistently voice opinions that are left- leaning with respect to business/economics/desire for govt control of such. I would have thought you would have scored more libertarian, though.

I would never have classified myself so close to the centre. Some of the questions were difficult to answer. For example: “There is now a worrying fusion of information and entertainment.” I think there is, especially when shows go out of their way to promote the leftist agenda, but that doesn’t imply I think the government should do anything about it. Similarly, strongly agreeing that, “A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system,” should in no way imply that I support one-party states (it just seems self-evident), but the marking scheme would seem to imply that. And how should I know whether, “Multinational companies are unethically exploiting the plant genetic resources of developing countries?” I suspect they do because they exploit anything they can, but I really have no idea.

I tried the quiz twice, answering the ones I was on the fence about the opposite way; my social score stayed the same but my economic score changed from 0.75 to 3.0.

(Sorry; I wrote and analyzed questionnaires for a living, so I can get, um, really boring at times.)

I agree. My results were Left/Right: 7.25 and Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.64.
Of course, being a Christian, I disagree with homosexuals adopting or being natural homosexuals, which I think is something they learn. And I believe abortion should be outlawed because it’s murder, not because I want to boss people around, per se. And I agree the questions can be a bit tricky to answer. What if you don’t agree with either position they’re asking?

There is an old adage that says “if you ask the right questions, you never have to worry about the answers.”

These questions are complete and total BS. The measure of authoritarianism versus libertarianism/anarchy, is your support for economic and personal freedom. These convoluted questions that overlap both freedoms and provide no clear answers, serve no purpose in helping anyone to understand anything about themselves.

I am proudly anarcho-capitalist/libertarian. I believe that government is the greatest evil man has ever created, and that everyone should be able to do as they wish with their property and their bodies up to the point where their actions impact the person or property of another.

The challenge I was having is that for many of the questions, I do not agree with ANY of the answers. How does one take a test like that? Tests of that nature are generally put together by folks with an agenda. As a candidate back in the 90s, I used to get questionnaires like that all the time from groups. There was NEVER a freedom-oriented answer, just answers to hang yourself with or the answer THEY wanted you to give. I would usually spend the time typing up an answer to each of the questions so I would not fall into their trap. Many of the questions in this seem like carefully disguised traps.

But I took it anyway: Economic Left/Right: 7.5
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.23
So bottom right quadrant.

But seriously, how does how one feels about abstract art have anything to do with anything, or whether I think a woman should be a homemaker. These seem like very “conservative-goading” kind of questions. I believe in freedom and personal responsibility. Most of these questions BEGAN with the presumptive need for government, or the presumption of personal irresponsibility. I do indeed prefer the “advocates” approach and questions, though even they too could be expanded to cover far more topics, while still providing clear, distinct answers that span the authoritarian/libertarian perspective.

Mr. Liberty, I think your answer sums things up pretty well. Your example on modern art is one I had a problem with because I personally think modern art sucks and is nothing but, for example, a red-painted square, which I could easily duplicate, but I do think if you want to buy a piece of modern art and call it art, then go for it.

By the way, based on your comments on TBP, Mr. Liberty, I think you’re probably the most Libertarian of us all and would rather see no government at all, so you should have the highest Libertarian score, but I think the test isn’t accurate and doesn’t reflect that.

Bigfoot, I did your test and came out a Libertarian (of course) right at the top of the Libertarian section. My score on Personal Issues was 100% and Economic issues was 90% (only because the question on free trade is sketchy, especially if you don’t know if the other countries are engaged in free-trade as well. If other countries have tariffs then I think our country should have tariffs to even things out, so that’s iffy.)

Sorry, somehow I skimmed past the link. Read the first page of questions and had to agree with everyone who said the questions are bogus. I didn’t like any of the answer selections and answered none of the above to them all. Didn’t bother with going past the first page. The answers provided are contrived for a preselected outcome that steers you into bullshit choices.

So, reading through people’s results, we seem to have a number of soft-semi-socialists that want to be left alone. Unfuckingbelievable.

Any negative score on the economic line means that a person wants free shit, or wants free shit for someone, and invites the fucking government to redistribute from one person to another. Just great. Guess that explains why I have so many flamefests on here.

I am not quite as conservative as Freidman, but I sure am a hell of a lot more Libertarian than him. I am in the middle of the bottom right quadrant. Leave me and my money alone sums up my position pretty well.

Some of the questions are squishy and difficult to answer on a Lickert scale.

Examples:
Abortion – I abhor it and don’t want anyone to have an abortion on demand, but won’t ever support a law making it illegal.

Homosexuality – I’ve known a couple of my childhood friends were gay since we were in single digits. That said, I believe more people end up homosexual because of outside influences (grooming, etc.) Can someone be homosexual naturally? Sure, but not in the numbers we see today.

My score:
Economic Left/Right: 5.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.15

Was surprised at the results … being a results-oriented, leave me the fuck alone kind a guy.

But I think the questions were a bit biased … like the abortion question … when they interject always and never into things, it is hard to say STRONGLY DISAGREE about NEVER having abortions without giving an out for instances involving incest or rape …

i don’t know who the guy on the video is but he’s socially very liberal–
many of the questions are set up so that the test taker must choose to allow things that they do not agree with but should not be handled by govt–example, drug legalization–
however, there are other positions where the govt should be taking a stand, gays adopting kids for example–this guy agrees w/the position that govt should butt out–
