HEARTFELT WORDS FROM HARDSCRABBLE

Guest Post by Hardscrabble Farmer

I can’t begin to thank all the people who made this event possible. From the moment we made the offer to host the get together I received nothing but encouragement, and enthusiastic support from all over this country from people we had never met before. As I lay in bed in those days after the fall, feeling like a complete failure for letting my family down, for wrecking my foot, for having to rely on my already overworked wife and children to do the things that were my responsibility, the idea to do this popped up.

Within days it became clear that everything we had been working towards- building a place in a community and sharing our experience with others- had provided us with a kind of harvest of good intentions and earnest support that we hadn’t expected. Deciding to throw this get-together was a carrot on a stick for me personally. It gave me something to shoot for that was both a motivator to recover and as we drew closer to the date, a way to offer our deepest gratitude to the kinds of people we have always tried to have in our lives; family, friends, neighbors, supporters, and the loyal readers who saw in those pieces Jim had seen fit to publish on TBP.

From our perspective it could not have gone better. Every time I turned my head there were knots of folks engaged in animated conversation, kids running with dogs, old friends chatting it up with new faces, and everyone enjoying the bounty that this piece of land has provided for us. It is with complete sincerity that I say we were honored to have everyone as guests on the farm last week. The decency, concern, fellowship, and joy that was given to us far exceeded anything we provided and it proved to me once again that what we had done ten years ago by leaving our old world behind was worth everything.

To everyone who made a contribution but were unable to attend I offer my humble thanks and the opportunity to come up next year as our guests. To all the people who trekked those hundreds and in a few cases thousands of miles to attend it was a sincere pleasure to meet you and your families, and for everyone who sent a card, offered a prayer, and gave me the strength to get back up on my feet and back to work for my family I thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

America was never about it’s economic strength or it military might, those were incidentals to what was the foundation to our success as a nation, its people. We focus on the evils and shortcomings of a degenerate and corrupt Empire as it lashes out against its opponents, but we should never forget that we have something far more valuable than private jets and lavish lifestyles that the elites possess; we have each other. Good people with honorable intentions committed to doing the right thing against all odds.

It’s a power we’ve forgotten we have and this past weekend it showed up on the side of a mountain in New Hampshire and made itself known to everyone present. It was genuine, it fed us physically, it nourished us spiritually, and it gave everyone the reminder that we so desperately need in these times, that together we have something that money can’t buy, that cannot be legislated or mandated. It was an organic and natural expression of making the correct choices and in doing the right things and it showed on every face and could be heard in every voice. We have each other to trust in and that’s the kind of asset money cannot buy.

Again I say thank you to Jim for making a virtual community based on honesty, intelligence, free speech and earnest inquiry that has reached so many fine people with good intentions and by extension the authentic real life connections that allow us to share our lives with other like-minded people trying to provide for their families and live according to their conscience, wherever that takes us on this journey.

So mark your calendars- next year we celebrate the 4th of July on the farm again and this time we expect to see everyone who couldn’t make it this year.

I want to come if possible. There are many on TBP that I consider a cut above. More importantly they are “good people” . When you think about it that is high praise. Much respect from me for those who want to live their life and be left alone.

It was great to hear that your 4th of July celebration and gathering of the clan was a success. “God willing and the creek don’t rise” I plan to attend next year’s event. If it’s OK I’ll bring along my four legged pal, the real Gryffy, who has helped me through some rough times.

THF you have described and laid out clearly what was often said about our nations ascendency….. it was the heart’s desire of the people to build a new and better world and leave the old world behind.
Until we return to the standard that it is the hearts and minds of the productive citizens that drive the process rather than the taking classes driving the bus we are in deep stuff.
TBP is a leak in the pipe that they cannot stop. I hope that a year from now we all can see how TBP helped to start a growing torrent of honesty that will be part of a return to our founders values

Always such a pleasure to read what your pen puts to paper, Hardscrable. And your extension of hospitality to all us TBP’ers out there is unmatched. I wasn’t able to attend this year, but God willing I’ll be there next.

Very well said. I sincerely wish I could have attended. Hopefully, my wife and daughter and I will make it to New England some day and will make a point of dropping by Hopewell Farms.

I have been thinking a lot about capital T Truth lately. Started a quickly failed essay on it, in fact. The main point is that we’re looking typically looking for a THING…an artifact known at the Truth. I believe in reality, Capital T Truth is more akin to process and the toolkit used in the search for artifacts.

The biggest revelation to myself through this thought process is that the Truth, or maybe what is Good is a better way to think about it–though I think they are mostly synonymous–is what is True is that which iterates best over the longest periods of time and across the broadest array of circumstances. Boiled down to human terms, it really is the stuff we learned in Kindergarten…simple things–be respectful, listen twice as much as you speak, the Golden Rule, put other’s need before your own, leave things better than you found them, responsibility, patience, humility… all down the line. These things iterate very well among groups of human beings…more than that these things build civilizations and empires. Their antitheses…ego, self-service, pleasure seeking, attention seeking, playing the victim…as human and genuinely rational as they may be, and we have the absolute right and even reason to feel and do these things…the Truth is that they iterate dreadfully…a downward spiral into literal Hell.

So, virtue is not so much about “pleasing God”, or “doing the right thing” or nobility, piety, righteousness….all these abstract ideas. No…it is very practical…virtue is about continuing the Infinite Games of “Civilization” and “Humanity.”

You took on the question that Pilate himself could not answer even when the truth was staring him in the face? The question nagged philosophers of old, who wondered if life is but a dream and questioned the makeup of matter and the brain’s inability to experience reality directly, having to rely instead on information relayed from its several senses. Break your question down, Druddy, lest you lose yourself in a quixotic quest for the holy grail.

Nice comment, Drud.

“…put other’s need before your own…”

May I suggest a qualification, which you may have already considered .

One reason for our current travails is that we Whites have too often irrationally extended this attitude far beyond kith and kin. Like us, other peoples have their unique destinies as Nature or their Creator ordained, and must evolve by experiencing the consequences of their own successes and failures. For us the optimum spiritual posture is benign non-interference IMHO.

Too many of our troubles have emanated from meddling, whether with good or ill intent, in other people’s affairs. Such people usually resent outside do-gooders and are more likely to peacefully coexist with us when we leave each other alone. Help of any type should be proferred, if at all, only when requested in good faith and only after our own needs have been met first. Even then, there is a risk that we slip into toxic codependence on a collective scale, leading to exploitation of the strong by the weak, or vice versa, or both.

White people are special, I can’t believe it. No stabbings, flipped tables, fights or finger flipping among a group of total strangers? This is not the America I know. It might even be safe to go next time.

HF:

Thanks again for your hospitality – it was an absolutely fantastic event.

July 6th marked the 10th anniversary to the day that I moved to NH and started my new job here. I truly don’t remember when I first started reading TBP, but I lurked for quite a while before I started to post. I do recall that you weren’t yet a featured author, but your posts were always profound. Knowing that you too had relocated here from ‘the flatlands’ coupled with your commentary, I sensed a kindred spirit.

The hardest part of the day for me was trying to keep up with all of the simultaneous conversations that went on. Early in the day, it was easy to talk to individuals. As the afternoon progressed, I had to keep circulating in order to get to know everyone, but that meant I couldn’t stay and enjoy chatting with each of those in attendance. C from NYC – I had an absolute blast chatting with you!! I Luv CO2 – I regret not getting your contact info. I’ll be heading to your town in a few weeks to buy a CONEX container. Admin and Avalon – I wish we had more time to talk!

Thanks EVERYONE for such a great time!

Hardscabble, as an aside, this information came in Gary North’s weekly e-mail. Maybe it could help you with your book:

GARY NORTH’S TIP OF THE WEEK
In my previous Tip of the Week I wrote about the program of investing 20 hours
to get the basics of just about anything.

https://www.garynorth.com/public/19695.cfm

This week I have a suggestion. Learn how to use a program that lets you create
an eBook in a few minutes.

The price is $27. There is a 2-minute video here:
