Food Prices Due to the Little Ice Age

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

Food prices rose due to the first Black Death whereby 50% of the population died which created a shortage of labor. This is what ended serfdom and began capitalism with the payment of wages. Then the weather began to turn sharply colder as the sun went into a solar minimum for a protracted period of time. This was known as the Maunder Minimum, which lasted between 1645 and 1717. This was a period where the number of sunspots was generally fewer than 50 per year compared to our modern period of warming with 40,000-50,000 sunspots over a 25-year period.

The Maunder Minimum was a very prolonged period of minimum solar activity that lasted for about 72 years. Our model is projecting an initial low coming into play around 2022. The extended trend appears to be lasting into as late as 2061, but that should not be without years that show spike highs in sunspot activity. This does not appear to be a downtrend that is persistent into 2061. There will clearly be lower highs during this period, but the trend should flip back to global warming post-2061.

your chart is basically unreadable.(looks to me like food prices went up far after the iceage was over) Could you put up a much more accurate chart and possible an article that explains much more than what you were trying to reveal.
Why didn’t you just say that the sun spots dropped from a max of 2000 to 5o instead of confusing the reader with a one year to a 25 year comparison ? just saying….

I was a little worried about how long the famine might last but now relieved to know that I’ll only need to last until I’m about 120 years old. PS: I’ve gotten 3 letters this month from different Investors wanting to buy my farm and it’s not for sale; tells me Southern rural land is going to jump.

robert,

My real estate agent from when I bought my rural ‘land,’ who now knows it is a vastly improved modest working farm built from nothing (from mutual friends – I suspect) has called me making a huge general offer…if I put it on the market.

Seems developed modest working farms are in super high demand.

(No shit – its called surviving the coming uncertain…loony tune future on your own)

Told him I am planning to be buried on it. Didn’t go into details…but he got the message, and I have the plan, and or the potential sudden death from defending it…to do just that.

Nothing wrong with an honorable qiuck exit.

Could beat the shit out of hospice…and or a nursing home.

I get it , here in the mid Atlantic East we have had a very mild winter a bit wetter but above freezing temps so no snow shoveling . However we had an unusually cool wet spring 2019 and as with the big farms my little victory garden told a similar tale .
Weather patterns for the winter kept extreme cold temps further north for now but one dip in the jet stream and we could be asshole deep in snow for Easter .
Explaining the fluctuations of weather patterns on a planetary solar cycle pattern is not perfect and is full of anomalies explaining why one area is hammered and another 500 miles away is unaffected .
Best to prepare for the worst and hope for the best !
Like the Biblical story of the 7 fat cows being eaten by the 7 lean starving cows !

I’m in NC, similar weather.

Eating overwhelming amounts of various still maturing veggies, and of course eggs in all its many forms.

This real man eats quiche – otherwise the cook (my wife) will kick my ass.

No wabbits yet (but two cages)…Maggie has inspired me…and that day will come…eventually.

Stuffing our faces with canned fruit/berries/veggies and chestnuts from past harvests.

Saving the freeze dried food for the pandemic…if it hits Podunk North Cackalacky…speaking Murican.

Who knows, maybe NASA will really land this one???

That freeze that Texas & Mexico got “Spring” 2021 was a dip in the Jet Stream that could hit farther East; the same type freeze could zap Georgia and Florida in future years; it has even hit as far as Cuba in the past.

Glacial cover of Europe in the 1700’s starved many. Priest regularly prayed for God to bring warmth before they ALL starved to death. Actually, cyclical narrow ice age periods last around 1100-1500 years. Contrary to popular belief, there are minimal warming spells within those periods.

The truth is, the Earth will get much colder and crops just won’t grow where they previously did. What we should be praying for is no volcanic activity, because that could really fuck things up! It’ll be 20 degrees Summer daytime in the Mohave!

reminder–locusts in Africa also LAY EGGS which hatch the following year..hungry baby locusts will eat the second year crop. How many starving illiterates are you willing to support?

I’m a Farmer/Rancher and I’m not willing to feed any unworthy and that is also Christian : 1) If a man will not work, he should not eat (2Thess 2:10). 2) If a house is not worthy, pass on by (Matt 10:13) . 3) Do not cast your pearls before swine (Matt 7:6). There is a time to be liberal and a time to be Conservative.
