One Photo Tells the Story

Guest Post by Eric Peters

People tend to behave the way they dress. Put on a track suit and sneakers – you’re ready for a run.

Put on a tuxedo and you’re not.

It is probable that one of the reasons armed government workers behave like the soldaten of an occupying military force is because they dress the part. You’re more than just what you eat.

Campaign hats, jackboots, straps across the shoulder. Insignia of rank – all the way up to five star general of a one-horse town.

When you wear the same insignia that MacArthur had on his collar, it tends to make the wearer believe he is MacArthur. And to expect the same deference due his “rank.”

It’s a recipe for Not Good.

Whether this happened by accident, via a kind of slow-motion morphing of the soldaten and what was once the civilian cop to the point that the visual distinction is now almost indistinguishable, isn’t relevant.

The end result is that the two are almost functionally indistinguishable.

AGWs dress for war, wearing the same body armor that soldaten in Afghanistan wear – only we’re the indigs here. They routinely carry heavy arms and enough ammo on their body to wage war. They drive around in the machines of war.

Is it any wonder it feels like we’re at war? But who, pray, is the enemy?

These sort-of-soldaten do more than dress the part. They set themselves apart by shaving their heads high and tight – as if they’d just been inducted into boot camp – and use the same term, even. They march in serried ranks, run in synchronized groups carrying a regimental standard while bellowing martial songs, twirl combat rifles at “dress parade.”

And they refer to us as “civilians.”

But they are not soldaten – even sort-of. No matter how much spaghetti they’ve got on their kepis; irrespective of the “rank” they award themselves.

Armed government workers do not enlist – nor do they “serve.” They go to work. They can quit at any time, just like any other civilian, which is just what they are.

Armed government workers aren’t commissioned. The Cracker Jack “rank” on their lapels is at best an imposture and at worst a form of what real soldaten style stolen valor. Ask a Marine officer what he thinks of an officer of the court walking around with “colonel’s” eagles on his collar.

These ersatz obersts hold no rank above that of any “civilian.” A five-star sheriff is as much a civilian as those he thinks he commands.

But the visual distinction between actual soldaten and civilian AGW has been blurred such  that the latter believes he is the former – and so behaves as if he were. It’s a form of conditioning – of them as well as us.

They see us as the enemy – and fear us as a dangerous threat which must be subdued.

When we see them, we feel fear – because we know they see us as a dangerous threat which must be subdued. We are aware – as an indig in Afghanistan is aware –  that they can do anything they like to us.

And often, do.

They are aware we increasingly despise them for this. Which makes them fear and loathe us even more. The pustule suppurates.

The ersatz soldaten are trained in the tactics used by actual soldaten. The difference being that we are not supposed to be the enemy.

We are treated as such, though.

It was once usual to simply handcuff a non-violent suspect and advise him that he was under arrest. He was not ordered to Get on the ground, now!

One can see this relic of a vanished culture in movies and TV shows from the ’80s and prior. It was just the way things were done, once upon a time.

It is now not unusual for an AGW to scream Get on the ground, now! . . . at jaywalkers. To tackle ID refusniks. To make “civilians” pulled over for minor traffic offenses sit on the curb, like misbehaving children, while the ersatz soldaten rifle their possessions.

The purpose of these tactics – note the soldaten lingo – is only secondarily and superficially  to assure the “safety” of the AGW. It is primarily a tool to humiliate and degrade the “civilian.”

That is to say – to show the “civilian” who’s boss.

There have been calls to defund AGWs but perhaps a better course of action would be to re-dress them. No more campaign hats and jackboots; no more badges of rank. Less Neidermeyer – more Roscoe P. Coltrane.

Maybe if they stopped dressing up for war – and acting the part – we could avoid one.

Soldaten need good marching music:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYQ6iHJ68Gg

Since there are so many bad humans doing really fucking awful shit maybe we need a militarized police. Better the cops have the firepower than any Nigger warlord from Seattle to New Mogadishu.

Either we have order or chaos. A simple choice that is easy to make.

I did not see that firepower used during the riots. What’s the point?

Actually, I believe First Nations, Hispanic and Asian peoples in the U.S.S.A. are about fed up to their ear with Black Anything Matters — they will be happy to defend their persons and property from the Negro hordes.

The “Angry old white guy” trope is most definitely a thing. They call for more authority only for it to be used against a guy fishing alone on the beach instead of the chimp-outs and riots.

Considering all the surplus combat gear and equipment raining down on police and sheriffs departments from Homeland Security grants add military police training from the Israeli Defense Force and poof instant tyrants loose on American streets defying any citizen to exercise their rights of refusing to obey ridiculous demands or commands !
Question their authority that an AGW attempts to use over you and it will instantly escalate to refusing lawful commands that are usually bull shit but nobody ever challenged them before so the LEO’s ego is butt hurt !
Take the time to view First Amendment Audits . The people performing them are generally good at exposing a tyrant with a badge and a thimble full of authority that he or she think they have the ability to destroy you with !

Used to work with the modified State Department vehicles done by BAE Systems and rig up stuff on DoS Bearcats doing FOB QRF while overseas. The government wastes so much taxpayer money it’s pitiful.
When I lived in NoVA my local PD had an APC, and I’ve seen some departments with MRAPS.
A PD with stupid administrators and lots of easily acquired gear will create opportunities to use them. Training and oversight is always expensive but a much better alternative.

What mentality does it take to be an employee of the state? You may be surprised of the mindset of many branches of Govt. from the military (not much surprise there) to the police and even the Fire Dept. Every FD I have seen is somewhat militaristic from their attitudes (God Complex because they can “save” people) daily routines and uniforms. Then you have the tax collector who wears whatever these days but believes in what they are doing nonetheless.
Maybe this B.S I have seen (especially since 9-11) of worshiping the “first responders” is just as much a contributing factor to problems.
In my younger days of service to the Govt (voluntary) in a couple of different venues taught me all I need to know about the mindset required for one of these ‘positions’. I had to get out, be productive and true to myself or become just like them through osmosis. There are a few good people in Govt, most have some serious moral failings that should disqualify them.

Jaz.
The most memorable was about 5 years ago in the library. The FD responded to the call when I had a sudden bout of heart failure. Right as the got me into the ambulance and were hooking up the sensors they spotted my .22mag in my waistband. The head fireman recoiled and shouted What’s That!! By then the nitro had worked well enough to say it’s just a pistol. Everything stopped until a straight guy on the crew just reached down an took it and gave the boss the look. When they wheeled me into the ER the first thing out of his mouth was “He has a pistol”.
It’s what I get for having a heart attack in a liberal town. The insult doesn’t stop there. 9 blocks from the FD to the hospital was thousands of dollars and over a hundred dollars each for 4 baby asprins.

A few years ago here in Minneapolis, a burglar was chased during broad daylight through a decent part of town until he broke into a house and hid in the basement. Bad move. That let the cops kill him without any video. So they did. This was before body cams. Five cops and one criminal in the basement. Supposedly he went for one of their guns. One of the cops got shot in the leg. The odds that he’d really gotten shot by one of the other cops? About 98%, in my opinion.

Anyways, about 45 minutes after the “officer shot” call went out on the radio, and after the scene had already been swarmed with cops ready to defend their brother officer, one more doofus cop decided he’d better also race over there, so he went tearing through a residential neighborhood at high speed, ran a red light and ran into a guy on a motorcycle, killing him. Protect and serve.

YUP! Very well described Sir.
It is called “The Wyatt Erp” syndrome.
I had a pal in Boulder Colorado who was the county D.A. there.
Longmont, Co. was a sleepy little agricultural town a few miles to the east of Boulder, also a bedroom community community for the IBM plant between the two towns.
The event of interest occurred in the late 1970’s.
Longmont has a main street of four lanes with a grassy tree planted median.
One fine sleepy middle of the day with nothing going on, a bartender on main street called in a drunk with a knife wobbling around in the bar making lots of noise. All five of the city cops raced to the scene and the poor drunk finally stumbled out of the bar. All five gunned him down. None did the obvious and go whack his arm with a night stick to get rid of the knife.
The D.A. then instituted the pepper spray mandated carry for the county.
Since the drunk had no family to sue, it all just went away.

Maybe one of the things that escalated the arming of our LEOs back in the mid-’70s was how badly those LEOs were outgunned in cities like LA by the mexican gangs that had stolen large quantities of semi-automatic weapons from National Guard and other armories.

My law school roommate was an intern with the LA County District Attorney’s gang unit … and as far back as ’77 the LAPD and the LASD were scared shitless to have any sort of real confrontation with the wetback gangs because the LEOs were so severely outgunned … 9 mm Barettas vs. M16s and even M72 LAAWs.

And, as another commenter writes here, large numbers of big-city law enforcement are trained by thugs from the idf and whatever other terrorists the israelis use for ‘law and order’. Thirty of our States have their LEOs trained by israelis … folks that are used to applying deadly force against civilian Palestinians in a heartbeat …

See, for example … https://www.unz.com/pgiraldi/militarized-police-a-gift-from-israel/

I lived in a town of 15,000 citizens. Serious crime was rare, yet the police department owned and weekly paraded their shiny black SWAT command truck up and down the streets. For what purpose I do not know, but it pissed me off weekly.

Also, the “thumpers” (aka “bad apples”) move from city to city like pedophile priests being reassigned to a new and unsuspecting parish. The cop whose overzealous takedown of unarmed Jamar Clark resulted in Clark being shot dead in Minneapolis had a prior record of abusive behavior in San Diego.

I saw a recent interview of Biden by Trevor Noah. Biden actually seemed coherent. Not sure how much editing that took. One of the police reform ideas Biden was talking about was requiring all police departments to report significant incidences of brutality to the DOJ. Sounds like a good idea. He probably should have introduced it during his 40 years in the senate or 8 years as VP.

Back in the day I got my butt in hot water for insubordination by calling a sergeant first class (E7) with less time and experience “effing stupid”. I was a sergeant (E5) at the time and had a big mouth.
This guy had literally ordered pallet loads of items we had no means to repair despite our being already overloaded with work, hiring contractors, and zero overtime budgeting. He heard I had a problem and confronted me personally, asking me about my “problem”. I laughed at him, he wanted to punch me, and it’s water under the bridge.
Funny, after sixteen years of post-Army military deployments I never saw any one of these so-called “technical experts” in charge crawling in the muck alongside me getting shot at, rocketed, or mortared. I guess you do rise to your innate level of ability. Never wanted to be a cop, either, because I realized you always have to deal with the lowest common denominators in society, something I never had the patience for, and still don’t.

I was amused when I read the proclamation by the newly declared Republic of Chaz explaining their proposed system of justice. Apparently 10-20% of the adjudicators of non-binding rulings will be gay, black, disabled, homeless, trans-female teenagers. My reaction was that it’s ridiculous. But then I thought about it . If you could find enough qualified individuals they would probably do a better job than the current hierarchy of politicians, judges and cops.

Good idea. The word “civilian” for the public really gets me. Armored tanks for police is also upsetting. One wish is just stop giving cops military equipment. And we need to make it plain that a cop’s job is to “protect” life and property and nothing more. If politicians would stop creating stupid laws, like selling loose cigarettes, we’d be much better off.

It’s official.

Peters is the new Whitehead, which is fine because cars are dead and his automobile columns were tedious.

All this crap about cops is just hand-wringing and misdirection.

The state the police are in is just reflective of the state of the nation and the people at large.

Before pointing the finger at the cops, check your friends, family, elected local officials, and yourself. Chances are, you’ll have your hands full.
