The United States is a screwed-up country. It this regard, the US has few rivals.
The legal voting age in the US is 18 years of age, which is also the age of female sexual consent and military enlistment. So at 18 years of age youth can affect the governance of the country, get legally laid, kill and die in combat, but are considered too irresponsible to imbibe alcohol and purchase a pistol from a licensed dealer until three years later at age 21.
An 18 year old can be sent off to war armed to the teeth, but cannot legally purchase a pistol in a gun store. He or she can influence how we are governed but cannot purchase a drink at a bar or restaurant.
What does an 18-year old know about politics, life, anything? Except in very rare circumstances, nothing at all.
The anti-American, anti-Western civilization (dead white men), anti-white indoctrination (systemic racism) that is the main function of an American university education is filtering down into the high schools and elementary schools. The United States is perhaps the first country to use education to destroy its own future. Most certainly, the US is the first country to make multicultural existence impossible. The Identity Politics of the liberal-progressive-left splits the country into hostile Identity Groups, some of whom have successfully cultivated victim status, which they use to oppress those without it, primarily heterosexual white males.
The anti-American, anti-white liberal-progressive-left has succeeded in brainwashing large swaths of American youth. In America the best students for the country are no longer the A students. The best students are the C students who are turned off by the indoctrination and just want to get on with their lives.
It is the A students who are receptive to the demonization of their country and themselves. These students have been targeted by the Democrats for massive voter registration. They have been refocused on overthrowing the “orange-haired racist/misogynist” in the White House.
It is unfortunate that the future of the United States depends on brainwashed, ignorant youth full of self-assertion and confidence that they know best.
But it does. Therefore, the United States is doomed.
The Russians and Chinese are likely the future rulers, if they can free their minds from the propaganda that the United States is the Hegemonic and Indispensable Nation empowered to rule by the End of History.
Fortunately for the rest of us, both Russia and China have gone through despotic eras that, apparently, the ruling elites themselves are tired of and want no more of.
Liberation often comes, not from those who speak its langauage, but from those who have suffered its absence.
Graduates of American schools need a decade to recover from the indoctrination. I propose that the legal voting age in the US be legislated at 30 years of age. Perhaps it would be best if the voting age was 40 years of age or even 50. By then at least some people have learned lessons from life. At 18 no lessons have been learned.
To allow people judged too irresponsible to order a drink or to purchase a pistol to influence, even determine, the governance of a country is mindless.
Especially in America.

PCR is right, of course; 18 year olds know next to nothing. 21 should be the age of majority.
Plus add in, what used to be established: a “property owning” requirement to voting. That would ensure some “skin in the game.”
If one is responsible enough to own and maintain real property at 18 then why not let that individual vote? In days past, it was not unusual for a 16 year old man to work on a farm or move west and homestead a piece of land for a number of years. Those individuals, including widows that inherit and become owners of said property, should be able to vote. However, only people with, as you say, skin in the game should be allowed to vote. Non-property owners, as Bastiat correctly surmised, knowing they can vote themselves the power of the purse and control of the treasury will assuredly empty it as quickly as possible and enslave the productive it get even more. Bottom line, you don’t own real property, you don’t vote. Doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman.
I’d have to say I agree.. It’s the other subversions to the system that’s been the problem the last 60-odd years.

As a younger 23 year old who DID make his mark, a bunch of spoiled sniveling 18-24 year old kids today who have NO sense of achievement is insulting as BEST. Being old enough to be their father, I despise beyond belief their T-ball token trophy mentality, and DEMANDING I acquiesce my gains for their ‘equality’. It’s BULLSHIT.

That is indeed a worthy ambition. Measured materially, you will almost certainly fail.
But measured with another yardstick, you have every chance for success.
The problem with real property is few Americans actually own real property free and clear. It is usually financed at great leverage. Business ownership or self-employment for voting eligibility would be a more relevant rule to use in the modern world.

It’s called consumption tax in those states who have it. Good deal until you audit your lifestyle an discern there’s way more money going out than you might think based on your spending habits.

Property Tax : means you never really own your property you rent it from government
Much to agree with – both you and Auntie Kreiest – but I do not believe that skin in the game is provided only by owning real estate. There are many responsible people who rent, who pay their bills and who also pay attention to politics. I am one such. Oh, I have owned, I have rented out and now I rent. Instead of excluding me and those like me from being able to vote – I would exclude all who received public assistance. These are the people who will vote for those whose policies that make feeding at the trough of public funding possible…
. . . often for a lifetime or even inter-generational.
Bottom line for me is if you can’t pay your own way in life (except for TEMPORARY bona fide emergency situations of short duration with long intervals between, you have not earned the right to vote, no matter what your age. And, if you happen to be able to do so aged 14, 16, 18 or 20 then you should be given the vote since you have enough “skin in the game.”

I have two older mature Veterinary Technicians, very mature and level headed. We just don’t bring politics up at work but I can tell from our other conversations that they’re both center right politically. I also have another Veterinary Technician and two Veterinary Assistants that are in their early 20’s and they’re always spouting Marxist BS and don’t know when to shut up. They don’t get it when I shoot them the shit eye and I’ve even given them the Churchill comment about being 20 and liberal vs 40 and conservative, no heart vs no brain comment and it just goes over their F’ng heads.

The vehicle contact that occurred was the fault of the DemoCommunist SUV swerving out of his lane into the side of a Trump supporter’s pickup. Citizenship in the USA, beyond natural, a minimum limit of 25 years old should be imposed. Voting, 21 minimum, at best for those qualified.
Voting, gender neutral, based *solely* on assets accrued, a MINIMUM net worth to be set for voting eligibility. This could be a historical YoY via IRS records taking into account market, and *pandemic* (grammatically incorrect, but it the works the way the media likes for fear) fluctuations this past 2-4 years.
The IRS can affirm and authorize at will, as per ACA precedent that was set for fines via individual mandate. Voting could be just as accountable. Software is good like that. If you’re broke, you don’t get a say, just an opinion.
To be documented, and cross referenced as a natural citizen, taxes and conditions must be met. Registry terms and conditions will universally apply.
Mr. Soros came up with fancy digital machines all those years ago for voting, so I’m sure his firms can make a database to fulfill the basic requirement I’ve outlined.

I first voted when the Nation gave us that right. I tried to be informed, I never simply touted the party line. I voted for the best candidate. If the candidate came to my house to talk with my parents and I they got my vote. I was 18 ears old and soon to be drafted into the Army. I registered as a Democrat but voted for a Conservative mayor because he explained in no small detail how he could help our city. I ran for City office a City Council asked me to because he thought I would bring in the youth vote for his campaign, I ran a door to door and newsprint campaign against a popular figure who took me for granted, the result being I became the youngest at 24 years old, Committeeman in New York state history.
