South Dakota Super Spreader

By Doctor de Vaca

My better half and I left last night after work as planned for South Dakota. As we rambled north on I -25 the reporter on the national news break on the radio extolled the concern of a Super Spreader event happening in South Dakota. Of course that reporter was talking about the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, that occurs the first full week of August in Sturgis, South Dakota. If you’re a “Mooslim” you’re expected to make the Haj to Mecca at least once in your life, if you’re a biker you’re expected to go to Sturgis at least once in your life. Living close by in Colorado, I’ve been the last five years and this will make year six for me since I began riding a street bike in 2016.

As usual and, as my wife likes to put it, doing anything with me is an adventure. Just outside of Cheyenne we blew a tire on the trailer. Was about half way through changing out the tire along the side of the road and a big burly construction worker pulled over and checked to see if I needed any help. Typical of Wyoming and the West, including rural Colorado, that’s just what one does, you stop and you help. I literally was putting the spare up on the axle and told him I was good but thanked him profusely for stopping.

We ambled a little more slowly now on into Torrington, Wyoming where we had a room reserved for the night. This morning we arose and had the free breakfast buffet in the hotel. The place was full with bikers, tourists and, construction workers. Everyone was jovial and friendly and not a mask to be seen. We then went to the local tire shop to replace the blown tire. The manager was super friendly and helpful and again, not a mask to be seen.

He coughed to clear his throat and jokingly said, “don’t worry, it’s not the ‘Rona”. I laughed and told him no worries, I was way done with the scamdemic. We discussed the #clotshot and he said he’s never going to take it. He said through the whole 18 month nightmare, we’ve all just experienced, his shop was never shut down and no one there was ever sick.

New tire installed and we were off once again, North through eastern Wyoming with its rolling hills, rock outcrops and cottonwood lined creek bottoms. Though I was pulling the bike on the trailer, I’ve ridden this same road before and, it reminds me of the scenery from “Dances With Wolves”. On the bike I can imagine what it might have been like to ride this beautiful country horseback with the wind in your face. We stopped in Lusk, Wyoming for a soda and bathroom break and not a mask to be seen. As we drove further North every main ranch gate had the Stars and Stripes and a Wyoming, Trump or POW flag flying by the mailbox.

As we finally crossed into South Dakota there we’re bikers everywhere. Making our way down Spearfish Canyon to our campsite in Spearfish the road was awash with bikes. In the six years I’ve been up here I have never seen so many bikes, especially in the canyon. We arrived at the Spearfish City campground around noon. In years past it was moderately full and we generally had an assorted pick of campsites on the first Friday of the rally. This year, we had to hunt for a spot and, are way in the back far from the shower house and bathrooms. Once again I’ve never seen it this crowded and I’ve still have not yet seen a mask since leaving the Front Range of Colorado.

We have camp set up, our neighbors are friendly and, we look forward to going this evening to downtown Spearfish and their weekly summer Friday street dance. They close down main street for about 4 hours for food, beer and, a live band. My wifi service is limited so no pics yet but I’m taking some and will post later. I can say this, the scamdemic is over in Wyoming and South Dakota. Also to Fauci, Slow Joe, et al BFYTW! Take your vaccine and your multi variant virus and stuff it.

Great post. Hearing about what it is like in Wyoming might as well be in another country, when viewed from here in Massachusetts. And it may well be soon.

My area is about like this also. All the fear and panic is far away, usually in blue places. It’s like hearing about problems on mars.

I am sick and tired of hearing the media and the Karens howl about ‘it’s a super spreader event’ for any get together they don’t approve of. Time and again their predictions of disaster never come to fruition.

I notice Obama went ahead with his giant birthday party this weekend after lying about scaling it back and there was not a mask in sight at the event. Crickets from the media on calling that a super spreader event, but there were threats to the few people who published pictures of the event to take the pictures off the internet though.

Popular with all types.
Saki-suckers, cafe racers, et al.
There’s only two types of people.
Those that ride and those that don’t.
But we always welcome those that don’t.
They might not know they ride yet.

Lots of folks trailer their rigs in.
But nothing beats riding there.

It is nice hearing that there are pockets of normal in America. I think we can all get tuned into the nonsense too much and forget that there are many, many patriotic and real folks out there that want no part of what the oligarchs are trying to shove down our throats. I look forward to seeing the pics.

I will say am though waiting(should be any time) for the white to come out,for me,a dedicated rig for hunting crossbow but good up to .308 on a rifles real estate.

You might want to look at the digital stuff though in the listed article talks about the down side of it,but again, better then nothing.

I did a boatload of research on this unit after this article and feel cozy going with it,will give actual useage posts of all me NV as I get more used to it and working with it.

They should keep quiet about that. Otherwise the Junta wil be dumping a bunch of rona positive illegals in downtown Sturgis.
Meanwhile family from back home saying they are dumping them of in northern Maine. My bet is halfway through Winter they’ll be on the first bus to Texas or California

Considering that half the US population has already had Covid and that motorcycle riders were undoubtedly less likely to have been hiding in their houses, there probably aren’t even many susceptible folks there.

Sturgis is on the bucket list. I have done all the major Southern and East Coast bike gatherings as well as Huntington Beach Concours, Hollister, Monterey, and Laconia. All of the western rallies were either on borrowed or rented bikes.

I have had a condo 45 north of Daytona since the early 90’s. I have lost count of how many time I have been to Daytona Bike week and Biktoberfest. When I was in my 40’s I did both almost every year if I was in the US and not working abroad. There are subtle changes but from one your to the next it is not too much different. The Biktoberfest is more laid back. The last few times at Daytona all I did during the day was ride the factory demo bikes.

We went to the opening ceremony for the Rally yesterday Friday 6 Aug. We live here. Each year my wife does an unscientific count from her back seat perch on our bike. When we leave Sturgis heading south on I-90 she counts the motorcycles headed north on I-90 between the Sturgis ramp and the entrance to Hwy 16 which is about 20 miles. This year she counted 650 motorcycles and that was at about 2PM Friday afternoon. In previous years the most counted has been 450 to 500. Is seems very crowded this year. We may see a record turnout. By my best estimate about 53% of Americans have not taken the jab. This has delayed the implementation of vaccine passports. As soon as Europe hit 70% in each country, that country started some form of vaccine passport. How inconvenient for the elites to have their plans thwarted by free Americans. You cannot imagine how delightfully normal and civilized it is at the Rally.

Americans are generally friendly helpful people and will tolerate a lot of shit but as with all things there is a limit to our tolerance & patience .
We have had enough and the battle lines are being drawn !
The BIG THEY have pushed their leftist bull shit to far . We know this pandemic , shutdowns , restrictions was all bull shit on the heels of leftist riots , looting and burning and the majority arrested and jailed were released yet those on the right who merely entered their property to demand the hired help listen are hunted down with every government law enforcement power our hired leftist bags of shit can muster !
THEY declared war on us and we AMERICANS will prove it was THE BIGGEST MISTAKE an uncontrollable band of government parasites could ever make !
ENJOY THE RIDE & PARTY
FORGET ME NOT

I’m about 50 miles north of Daytona so wifey and I ride our bikes down to Bike Week several times each year it comes around, same with Biketoberfest. I always catch a race or 2 and of course people watching is a blast. 300,000(?) people in tight quarters-SUPER SPREADER EVENT!!!! Warns the MSM.
NOPE, nobody caught Jack shit.
BTW, for any bikers ( doc V) who have Daytona on the bucket list, c’mon down and crash at our pad-it’s an open invitation. You don’t even need to bring bikes. We have 2 ya can borrow. Yamaha 1600cc Midnight Star and a 1854ccStratoliner.

Sturgis has made one change to deal with the Rona virus. They are waiving the rule against having open containers of alcohol outside. This should be a nation wide rule, because saaafteee and scyence

I loved South Dakota. Most vivid memory was the random old cowboy boot upside down on a fence post. And how if you were passing someone coming the opposite direction on one of those flat old empty country roads they’d slowly raise a single index finger from the steering wheel as a way of saying howdy.

Enjoy your weekend with the sane folks in the Big Empty.

Around labor day we are driving to friends who have a cabin on Spirit Lake in Iowa. From there, we are driving to South Dakota to see some of the sites I’ve never seen before. We plan on hitting Mt Rushmore, Deadwood, and wherever else our friends lead us too. They know all the best watering holes!

I heard 700,000 this year and, if true, that would be a fairly substantial increase from previous years (post 2015).

I can say this, the scamdemic is over in Wyoming and South Dakota. Also to Fauci, Slow Joe, et al BFYTW! Take your vaccine and your multi variant virus and stuff it.

It was the same last year during the height of lockdowns. The Sturgis bikers collectively raised their middle finger to the deceptive fear mongers and their dupes alike.

Now queue the ballbusting Karen’s in the media counting dead grandma’s according to their six degrees of Kevin Bacon.

Been to a number of US states over my lifetime (probably a quarter of them). My parents took us on a vacation to Mt. Rushmore when I was about 10 years old. I loved South Dakota. It’s a pretty place. When I dream about moving south of the line to escape the Trudopian nightmare that is Canukistan it’s one of the places I thing about relocating to.

Wonder if they need another gun shop?

Thanks Doc. I visualized the trip as you described it. Not a biker but have traveled that route from Fort Collins to Deadwood many times to stay at the Franklin Hotel (once the largest building between St Louis and San Francisco). Since the Silverado took over the hotel the old time ambiance had gone along with the elevator operator in his monkey suit. We would hit Torrington as my uncle had a burger place there. Went from being a Tasty Freeze to Bob’s Burgers when they got to greedy on the franchise fee. Poor uncle Bob worked every day of the year except Christmas. He died but had a pool in his back yard. Burger joint is now a Mexican eatery. We would stop and picnic in Lusk before heading on to Deadwood.
My dad used to think bikers were bad news. One year towards the end of his life in the post 9/11 years he was up in South Dakota during Sturgis and wrote the bikers treated him like royalty keying onto his 5th Marine Division ball cap he was wearing. He couldn’t talk but said that he would write back and fourth to communicate with ones that wanted to hear his part in the war. I just saw on CBS Sunday Morning that dad’s Company Commander on Iwo died last week at 102.
