Something Has Happened to Americans and It Is Being Blamed on Guns

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

My generation grew up with guns.  We never shot anyone or any farmer’s cow or mule. We focused on cottonmouth moccasins to keep the creeks clear for swimming holes, and we tried crows until we learned they were too smart and organized for us.

If memory serves, the first American mass shooting was the Clock Tower shooting at the University of Texas in 1966 by an ex-Marine suffering from a brain tumor which apparently unbalanced him.  Since that time mass shootings have increased in occurrence.  Instead of investigating what has happened to the culture or the pills people pop that results in mass shootings, guns get blamed.

By passing the buck from cultural collapse to guns, a suspicion has been created that authorities are producing deranged individuals from CIA mind control experiments for the purpose of repealing the Second Amendment or reinterpreting it to mean than only militias can have guns. As the shootings are immediately and always used to attack the Second Amendment, never the real problem, suspicion is not without justification.

Another suspicious aspect of the response to mass shootings is that the liberals get as upset about the death of strangers, as long as it was “gun violence,” as they would if it were their own children or best friends.  Yet, these same liberals are OK with the US blowing up weddings, funerals, and children’s soccer games in the Middle East and Israel gunning down Palestinians. https://israelpalestinenews.org/latest-victims-israel-slaughter-palestinians-killed   Credibility is lacking when it is only deaths that are blamed on the Second Amendment that receive sympathy. It is difficult not to conclude that liberals look forward to mass shootings as they are used to build pressure against the Second Amendment.

“Gun violence” assumes that a gun is an independent actor.  The gun chooses to engage in violence.  This is nonsense.  Violence originates in the person, but many weapons are used to commit violence.  The problem resides in the person, not in the weapon chosen.  The question is what has happened to the culture that it turns out people without moral awareness and self-control.

Ask yourself who removed moral restraint from our lives and you will know the guilty party.

It is hard to find a problem that we face as a society that has not been created by government. One could assume that governments are evil.

To paraphrase Homer (Simpson),

Government. The cause of (yes) and the solution to (in their mind) all of life’s problems.

Creeping leftism happened to America.
The only thing stopping it is guns.
Ammo up and be prepared to defend what you hold dear.
Yuri Bezmenov warned us all decades ago.

Quick, give every man, woman, and child a gun and let them fight it out. Only the strong survive!

No – You have that completely backwards. Without guns only the strong survive. With guns even a 120 lb. woman or an 80 year old senior citizen can defend against a 240 lb. attacker. Guns even the odds.

Have you noticed there is only “gun violence”?
There is no hammer violence, rock violence, knife violence, car violence, bicycle violence, etc..
There are no assault hammers, assault rocks, assault knives, assault cars.
Nope, only the inanimate gun has the ability to shoot indiscriminately, move at random, attack us when we least expect it, assault, kill and injure!
All by themselves, they cause all kinds of problems for society.
How weird is that?
Dangerous, indeed….

Moral restraint is a personal decision, but the basics of “right and wrong” should be taught at a young age and reinforced in order for empathy and conscience to emerge.

Emphasis on “should be”, and we all know it never happens in many cases where a cohesive, stable family doesn’t exist.

If laws actually prevented crime, Congress would have went out of business years ago.

I guess I’m lucky my shotgun that I’ve had since the fourth grade hasn’t come to life and killed people. It just hangs on the wall minding its own business. I have nice memories of my mom asking me if I needed any shells for my shotgun or beer. Yep, my high school years were different than most people’s.

And you get to use the beer cans for target practice when they’re empty.

America has a fundamental ethics and morality problem. It’s as simple as that.

Yes and it is entirely the result of the concerted war on Christianity.

This is an excellent article. In my country of Canada back in the 60’s and even into the 70’s there were gun clubs in high schools without anyone concerned about someone using a firearm to kill people. Something is occurring culturally that is encouraging people to take these despicable actions. Rather than focusing on guns we as a culture should be trying to find out why people are choosing to do these immoral cowardly acts. I think we do not because the answer might be to revealing.

As recently as the mid-to-late 80’s I shot in intramural riflery and skeet leagues in college. There was a rifle range in the basement of the student union (a major Big 10 university).

What is happening is easy to see. Our population is producing an ever increasing number of psychopaths. The reason for this is not apparent, but the need to screen school age children for the signs of psychopathy is badly needed. It is probably one of our biggest national problems and effects everything from mass homicides to the criminals in government and law enforcement. We need to know who the people with psychopathic tendencies are and then we can take steps to keep them out of positions to hurt others.

The way I hear it, prescription psycho drugs were mentioned in early mass murders but the manufacturers got the information suppressed.

Bullshit, article doesn’t acknowledge the Smith Mundt Act modernization of 2012 NDAA or any mention of the ridiculous staged drills passed off as real. That’s what they are.
