I sincerely hope California enacts every piece of pie-in-the-sky, greenie, illegal immigrant-friendly, social-justice, gun-banning legislation their worthy legislators can come up with.

The self-immolation of a once-magnificent state might be a valuable lesson for the remaining 49.

Admin,
Don’t overlook the advantages of charging up in the middle of that squalor. While your car is charging you can get your knob polished for $, smoke some crack and crack a few brews with new friends. Oh, the fun!

How pathetic. After only 70,000 miles??? I have a Honda Pilot with 103,000 miles on it and I expect to put on another 100-150,000 more miles. Oh, one more minor detail; our power bill is up 25% in a year.

10 years and 70K miles is $.43/mile or about $250/mo for the battery and who knows how much coal powered electricity the thing used in 10 years.

My 9 year old F-150 costs about $.175/mile for fuel at $3.50/gal. I will stick with my gas burner.

20 year old tundra. Oops, my identity. 13-14 MPG. 11 miles to Wal Mart , however that equates at right now around $3.25 gallon.

WOW 70,000 miles and the car is totaled . Consider a fleet of battery powered government vehicles all destroying the power grid to charge up and then $29 grand for batteries .
As always the law of unintended consequences or the reality of forethought biting every looney liberal lala land idea in the ass with the actual facts

Government will negotiate a special price of $45 K for batteries so that all the right palms can get greased.

70,000 miles. LOL. My Corolla went 195,000 with no major issues and I traded it in for a Camry that cost me only $5000 more than I paid for the Corolla 10 years earlier. Oh the days of affordable cars.

EV drivers are brain dead morans. I actually laugh at them as I pass them on the highway. They all drive 10 mph below the speed limit and not because the car isn’t fast. They get a crash course in physics shortly after they buy one.

So TPTB and their confederates are lying to me again? Even Wolf Richter praises them to the high heaven. Living in a cold winter clime should dissuade most if they’re paying attention.

I wonder how long it will take people to figure out that quietly gutting the electric vehicle, and installing the guts from a Mexican internal combustion vehicle, is less expensive than fixing the EV.

Nice bonus: Still no smog checks.

Better yet, pull all electrical and mechanicals, pull it with a horse and you have yourself a “Voltswagon”.

If a repair costs that much you scrap the car. EVs might have some practical uses, but they are primarily fashion statements for effete urbanites.

It had 70,xxx miles. That is a hefty car repair for 70,xxx miles. An engine and transmission would be less.

OK, hear me out.
So the price of a used battery powered vehicle with a dead battery is effectively zero.
Probably ditto for a hybrid like the Prius.
So you can get a Prius with a dead battery for a can of Spam in trade.
Pull the battery, swap the tiny ICE engine out for a diesel genset, and make a diesel electric car.
Like the diesel electric locomotive.
The genset can be sized to deliver the power normally provided by the battery pack.
And it’s diesel, so it can use the whole range of biofuels.
Just an idea, but I’m in the land of EV idiots, and it might be a fun Mad Max project.
