Satan – no competition

Musically though, they’re too close to call.

Sorry, both are good in different ways. Bad Wolves took a great song and did a cover that was markedly different than the original and did not make it better just a great updated cover.

It’s really hard to say. If I had to pick, I’d say the Bad Wolves version, but not by much. The part that still gives me goosebumps is that this was supposed to be a remix with Dolores O’Riordan, the original singer. She died on 1/15/2018, the day she was going to record the vocals. That would have been something to hear.

Yep. They did the best they could without her hoping it would be a good tribute and I think they accomplished that goal.

There’s something to be said for embracing the life you’re given, with all the hardships, lessons, and struggles, too. 😘

“Every man is more than just himself; he also represents the unique, the very special and always significant and remarkable point at which the world’s phenomena intersect, only once in this way, and never again. That is why every man’s story is important, eternal, sacred; that is why every man, as long as he lives and fulfills the will of nature, is wondrous, and worthy of consideration. In each individual the spirit has become flesh, in each man the creation suffers, within each one a redeemer is nailed to the cross.” ― Hermann Hesse , Demian

“I realize today that nothing in the world is more distasteful to a man than to take the path that leads to himself.”
― Hermann Hesse, Demian

“Each man had only one genuine vocation – to find the way to himself….His task was to discover his own destiny – not an arbitrary one – and to live it out wholly and resolutely within himself. Everything else was only a would-be existence, an attempt at evasion, a flight back to the ideals of the masses, conformity and fear of one’s own inwardness.” ― Herman Hesse, “Demian”

“Because the world is so full of death and horror, I try again and again to console my heart and pick the flowers that grow in the midst of hell.”
― Herman Hesse, Narcissus and Goldmund

“We fear death, we shudder at life’s instability, we grieve to see the flowers wilt again and again, and the leaves fall, and in our hearts we know that we, too, are transitory and will soon disappear. When artists create pictures and thinkers search for laws and formulate thoughts, it is in order to salvage something from the great dance of death, to make something last longer than we do.”
― Hermann Hesse, Narcissus and Goldmund

“My goal is this: always to put myself in the place in which I am best able to serve, wherever my gifts and qualities find the best soil to grow, the widest field of action. There is no other goal.” ― Hermann Hesse, Narcissus and Goldmund

“I call that man awake who, with conscious knowledge and understanding, can perceive the deep unreasoning powers in his soul, his whole innermost strength, desire and weakness, and knows how to reckon with himself.”
― Hermann Hesse, Narcissus and Goldmund

“There is no antidote, he writes, against the opium of time. The winter sun shows how soon the light fades from the ash, how soon night enfolds us. Hour upon hour is added to the sum. Time itself grows old. Pyramids, arches and obelisks are melting pillars of snow. Not even those who have found a place amidst the heavenly constellations have perpetuated their names: Nimrod is lost in Orion, and Osiris in the Dog Star. Indeed, old families last not three oaks. To set one’s name to a work gives no one a title to be remembered, for who knows how many of the best of men have gone without a trace? The iniquity of oblivion blindly scatters her poppyseed and when wretchedness falls upon us one summer’s day like snow, all we wish for is to be forgotten.”

That was my first Hesse book. Blew me away. I went through all the rest of them after that, one after another. That’s still my favorite and seeing the words now I can clearly see the influence it had on not only my writing, but how I live, even to this day.

Thanks for posting that, now I have a new one to drop on my sons.

Admin, my two cents, for what it’s worth…
This post topic is great. Much like QOTD, and Tuesday Tunes, this could be a recurring post idea.
This was the first time I’ve ever seen such a comparison here.

After seeing this one, I was browsing music on YT, and while listening to one old favorite, the side bar suggestions led to others.

Discovered a good potential offering for a future ‘Who Did It Better’, if you’re open to suggestions.

I didn’t know that, or just don’t remember seeing too many previous WDIB? examples.

Tis an odd comparison, but I never knew until yesterday that Roy Orbison has a version of “I Drove All Night” that is really great, and I lean more toward him, than listening to Celine Dion’s music.

That said, I can appreciate Celine’s vocal range on that song, and also on her version of “The Power Of Love”

Guessing that might get some blowback & mockery for bringing up such a female pop artist, but, I’m all over the board, when it comes to music genres.

Songs and musical talent & skills appreciation is a personal thing, and I’ve found that some of what one person likes will always get rejected by others.

That’s caused hesitancy at times, to suggest to others: ‘Hey, listen to this.’

On this one above, readers can explore on their own, if so inclined.

Thanks, JQ.
I like the Bad Wolves version just a tad better.

Great cover, never heard it before.

When my wife and I were dating we were driving a road trip through the southwest and I had this tape in the car. Every song is permanently etched into my mind as an artifact of that time and and how we felt about each other so it’s impossible to hear it without a wave of nostalgia rising up, regardless of the meaning of the lyrics.

Her voice and tone was a one off.

Both are good, but it should be a metal song. More power, more passion, more energy. I can imagine it with even more guitar work.

Agreed. Went to a memorial this past Sunday. The deceased was 22 days shy of 49 years. It was interesting to hear what people were saying.
