Will Italy’s Election Foreshadow US Midterms?

Guest Post by Ron Paul

Sunday was an historic election day for Italy. A conservative alliance with a populist flair absolutely trounced the technocrats who had been running the country into the ground for the past several years.

The previous prime minister, former Goldman Sachs banker Mario Draghi, implemented one of the most restrictive – and inhuman – Covid shutdowns, which, along with supporting economically suicidal sanctions against Russia, have left Italy an economic basket case.

Replacing the bland banker will likely be Giorgia Meloni from the right-wing Sons of Italy party. Meloni will be a first for Italy: the first female prime minister. But don’t expect the Left to celebrate it: her name cannot be mentioned in the mainstream media without reference to Mussolini.

Ironically, the democratic victory of Meloni and the rest of the Italian right likely owes a great deal of gratitude to one of Europe’s most undemocratic and anti-democratic leaders: European Union Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen.

On the eve of the Italian elections, the unelected von der Leyen warned Italians that if they voted for the “wrong” parties they would be punished. Asked about the surge of the political opposition in Italy on the eve of the elections, she warned Italian voters, “we will see the result of the vote in Italy. If things go in a difficult direction — and I’ve spoken about Hungary and Poland — we have the tools.”

In other words, her message to Italian voters was “yes you can vote, but if you vote in a way I do not approve of, you will be punished.”

Italians rushed to vote in a way she did not approve of. It will be interesting to see what happens.

How does any of this relate to the United States as the US moves closer to the midterm elections? Americans have also been given warnings by the political elites that they dare not vote for the “wrong” candidates or parties.

On September 1st, President Biden issued a warning similar to that of Europe’s von der Leyen. In one of the most bizarre speeches in political history, Biden warned that Trump supporters “…are determined to take this country backwards — backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love. They promote authoritarian leaders, and they fan the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country.”

He spoke on a frightening, red-lit stage with US Marines serving as props on either side of him. This was no “Checkers” speech with Nixon speaking wistfully about his cocker spaniel. No, it was a declaration of war against half of the country.

A few weeks ago Sweden threw its left-wing government out and Sunday the Italians did the same. While the political differences in Europe seem more cosmetic than substantive – for example Italy’s presumptive new prime minister supports weapons to Ukraine just like her predecessor – there is still a strong feeling of popular revolt against political elites in the air.

That doesn’t mean things will easily go our way, as there is no automatic libertarian surge. But we must study hard and take advantage of every single opportunity. People are sick of the elites? That means they are likely open to the concepts of non-interventionism and sound money. Let’s help educate them!

It is not the system that is broken, it is the voters. The American citizens are absentee landlords who think they fulfill their duty, simply by putting their uninformed vote into the ballot box.
You can blame everything else, but when it comes down to the truth, the downfall of America is being perpetrated by the people looking back at us in the bathroom mirror.

Unpopular message, but true.

Had we done as God instructed us, none of this would have happened.

Just ask Adam. And Cain!!!

I have spent my whole adult life voting for Republicans from Goldwater to Trump. Sometimes they won sometimes they lost. They have even controlled both houses of congress and the presidency a few times. They have had platforms and “Contracts with America” that were common sense, pro-American and moral. Without fail the Republicans have never failed to disappoint. They have never delivered. If there is a populist victory in November, it won’t make any real difference.

I agree and I disagree – LOL. I agree the repubs have not delivered what I wanted over the last 20+ years. But I disagree about them not delivering anything. They have delivered big time compared to the dems who basically only destroy. And then there is Trump. Trump delivered a lot even with resistance from congress and the deep state. I think he is clearly the best president since Reagan. He would have delivered more if he had more cooperation. Was Trump perfect ? No, he was not. But he did get the border under control, the economy cooking until covid, massive reduction in regulations, beefed up the military, semi-energy independence, and a bunch of other stuff while at the same time the left/deep state was going wild trying to stop him. Russian Collusion hoax, RINO’s everywhere, two hoax impeachments, and numerous people inside his administration trying to stop him. I think it is actually amazing how much he got done considering what he was up against. The left/deep state is terrified he is going to come back and are after him constantly due to that fear. I would be so bold as to say we needed to elect a bunch of America First people to congress in 2022 and 2024 and Trump. He says the first order of business will be to clean out the left/deep state people in the executive branch agencies. That would be good. Then with a congress that leans more America First we might be able to get some good stuff done. The kinds of things I have been looking for the repubs to do for years and they have not done it. Stuff like abolishing the education dept and implementing school choice. Abolishing other departments. Cleaning out the DOJ/FBI. Do you have a better plan ?

Until not too many years ago, I used to think like you, overthecliff, and David, the person that replied to you.

Quite a few years ago I remember seeing an old YouTube video on ‘the 7 vails’ or something like that. It might as well have been called the 7 layers of an onion. You two need to peel back the onion or remove the vails until you get to the core. Once there, you will find out an ugly truth that our ‘representative government’ is a farce and nothing more than kabuki theater to keep the people distracted into believing there is still a voice…still a chance that something can change. Well, those politicians we’ve been voting for get co-opted shortly after taking their pledge. Both sides work for the same team (with very few exceptions) meaning, the elites team.

Start researching further and you will come to the same conclusions that I came to. It’s not pretty.
But, there is hope; and it’s not in this world’s satanic system. My hope lies in Jesus, who is coming back, maybe fairly soon, to clean up the mess that’s been made by man.

Italy didn’t cheat hard enough so their privately owned central bank and its mafia / EU allies will have to step in to teach the uppity proles a lesson or two about who really runs things.

…mafia / EU allies…

It will be interesting to see how this plays out…

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is being accused of election interference after threatening to use “tools” if the wrong election result is achieved in Italy’s national elections, set to take place tomorrow She added that those same tools are already being used against Hungary and Poland.

“We will see the result of the vote in Italy,” said von der Leyen. “If things go in a difficult direction — and I’ve spoken about Hungary and Poland — we have the tools.”

Some Italians should make Ursula an offer she cannot refuse. Maybe then she would get the message being sent by the people.

Since when is the will of the people allowed to be transferred into properly counted votes in an election? Ron should know better by now.

Odin knows, I don’t know the big plan the communists have. I know what they want and I know how cleverly they’ve worked to achieve it and I know how useless the repubs have been for the last 70 years.
And I know that the communists haven’t schemed, planned, bribed, threatened, murdered and destroyed this country in every way imaginable and unimaginable to just walk away now when they’re on the eve of total victory.
How can anyone believe they’re going to “lose” their positions in congress and fade into the woodwork? They’ve been at this for well over 100 years and they’re going to be “outvoted” now?
The midterms are rigged right now. Even if there’s elections in 2024, it’ll be under a soviet bolshevik communist govt with the first dictator after Lincoln ruling us. That will likely be Newsom.

There is a world of difference between Italy, and the US. In Italy, people struggle much more than they do in the US. Struggle tends to make you better educated and more aware of why you are miserable. People who are comfortable do not look for answers, or for the most part are not even aware problems exist.
Americans live in an artificial world compared to the rest of the world. They are in La La land and I would estimate the majority are so ignorant of what is going on, that any comparison to the people of Europe is worthless.

Don’t know Ron, we have lots of fair weather Patriots that will bitch a lot but declare not to vote because of a bad 2020 election.
I think their plan is to hand it over to the Dems without a fight at all.
I will be voting even if on a rigged system, because God sees my ballot and knows my heart.

No. Because in no time in history has a Marxist Dictatorship which came into power through a coup, allowed a free and fair election.
