It was 2.5 miles to work, 2.5 miles home, 5 miles for the paper route, and 2.5 miles back. Oh, and another 5 miles to/from at the beginning and end of the day. I worked overtime and even the 4th of July (made triple time that day). The strike ended, I kept working, and only had to leave because the manager was being pressured by the union for me to join. He knew I probably wasn’t 16 (the age I said I was), so he had to let me go….but ended up being a reference in the future. Indeed, this guy is worthless.

I worked overtime and even the 4th of July (made triple time that day). The strike ended, I kept working, and only had to leave because the manager was being pressured by the union for me to join. I remember my apprentice first day on an oil tanker and then transferred over to a frozen food ship then back to the tanker we caught a nap on the tug rides ! I was 18 and was being trained to work on big machinery.
