Thinking about TBP Advertising

Thinking about TBP Advertising

To my counting the homepage has more or less 35 adverts. Checking 3 random articles I count more or less 35 adverts on each one, looks like a template page layout. If you visit the site only once per day and read 5 articles the site will try to present 210 adverts to you. None of which you see because you’re using an ad-blocker. Cool.

If the site has 10,000 visitors per day then that’s 2,100,000 adverts that are served every day but never seen.  Total ad revenue for TBP per day with 10,000 visitors using ad-blockers = zero.

Adverts are usually paid for only when they are clicked on and generate actual visitor traffic to the advertiser or, more rarely, by impressions. In the case of impressions only the rate is somewhere around $1 per thousand impressions but being paid for an impression only is much less often the case. Normally an advertiser wants to get actual traffic to their website because that’s the surest way for the advertiser to know their advert got seen. Clicked on adverts obviously generate more revenue, perhaps as much as $0.10 per click.

Using an impressions only model:

2,100,000 impressions at $1 / 1000 impressions = $2100 per day.

Using a click thru only model:

Assuming only a tiny fraction of adverts are clicked:

0.01% of 2,100,000 = 210

210 * $0.10 per click = $21 per day

Assume total ad-revenue is some combination of these two models, take half, and a rough calculation of what TBP might be missing out on is $1000 … per day … and all because we all use ad-blockers. That must be a real downer for any website owner.

Even if you assume I’m out by a factor of 10 then we’re still talking about $100 per day or $3000 per month (working on a 30 day month).

Even if we assume I’m out by a factor of 100 then we’re still talking about $10 per day or $300 per month or $3,600 per annum which is 6.5% of the annual beg-a-thon. And, of course, this is gross, not profit. The point is that real money is being lost because of the use of ad-blockers. Yes, I’m also using one.

Keep in mind that admin takes a big risk with this site. Cancel culture cockroaches are all around like … well, like cockroaches. Plus it takes time and money to run a site like this and the more popular it becomes the more costs involved in server and bandwidth infrastructure.

Now that admin has made it really easy to make a contribution using Stripe (without needing an account or providing any more info than an email address and card details) we really have few excuses left to just throwing a few dollars towards this site. If times are too tough (which they are for most of us) then here are a few suggestions:

  • Switch off the ad-blocker, load a page, and click on some adverts every now and then. Cost to you: nothing.
  • Buy something from one of the adverts; we all need more ammo and a pillow to muffle the shot. Cost to you: depends on how many shots you need; improve your aim.
  • Buy some TBP merchandise. Can’t find the slogan you like? Design one and suggest it to admin and then buy it. Cost to you: not much extra because you’re going to buy a t-shirt or sweatshirt or mug somewhere sometime anyway.

Even Biden says you know, the thing, c’mon man!

OK:

1 – “Don’t tell me how to enjoy things” – Rick Sanchez

2 – NOT getting rid of Ad Blocker

3 – IF this site ever becomes as popular as you seem to want it to be, it will suck just as bad as all the other “good sites”. It’s the same damned reason that every good person involving themselves in politics turns corrupt.

The ONLY reason Jim has done so well so far is that he’s a decent guy who’s been flying largely below the radar.

You don’t rise like StinkFinger did unless you’re corrupt to the core to begin with.

It takes true character to eschew that kind of power, and true intelligence to know they never intended to share it with you either.

That’s the only reason, huh?

Without Jim, you wouldn’t be here posting your silly shit on every single article. You think about that for a minute.

The ONLY reason Jim has done so well is because he’s Jim fucking Quinn.

Try to be more like Jim Quinn.

Jim Quinn is a fearless warrior chieftain for freedom of thought and speech inside of the eternal concepts of liberty and freedom . Oh, and he HATES people who do horrible things to the innocent plus those unable to understand the terror of the horror-show out in the corrupt and evil world since many, many moons.

Dont remove the ad-blocker. Just switch if off occasionally, click some ads, and then switch it back on. Does not need to be a permanent off.

That’s an honest way to keep the system going.

If a system doesn’t work, let it fail.

Sorry, Jim,

The ads, when they show up, make your site unreadable.

So I’ll keep sponging ’til they or you go away.

I don’t use an ad blocker because I grasp there is no free lunch. I confess the ads drive me nuts, especially the pop-ups. What I didn’t realize is the importance of clicks. I promise to become wildly curious about products advertised on TBP.

Install a pop-up blocker and use an ad-blocker. Just switch if off every now and then, click some random ads, and then turn the ad-blocker back on. Its a minor thing but if enough people do it on occasion then it will make a difference and costs nothing.

If the site is getting approximately 10K visitors a day what if each one of those gave a $1 a month? Or $12 a year or however they wanted to do it?

What about a short banner up at the top encouraging to donate at least that much to keep the place going?

Something like “Free speech is unfortunately costly. If you are a regular reader, please consider donating at least $1 a month to help keep this site going. Thank you”

I’m not sure how many people read your long entreaty at the end of articles. Just a thought.

How many of them are bots?

From personal experience, I would guess that charging $1 a month would reduce that 10k visitors to a mere handful, maybe 10, certainly less than 100.

The issue, though, is how many of the visitors here are unique … not repeats every day …

If all there are is 10K of us, then $12/year is $120K — and that’s the ‘gross’ amount … not the net …

Advertisements just draw people away from your web site. That’s ok if you are only in it for the ad revenue.

Make something people are willing to buy. Otherwise you might question the value of what you are doing.

Perhaps you are earning what opinions are worth.

I wore my TBP shirt out for dinner tonight. Gave a guy I saw purchase a Fag Light a crazy look. Ordered a few local microbrews.

Can’t find the slogan you like? Design one and suggest it to admin and then buy it.

I’m a proponent of value-for-value exchanges. And not just because I don’t have much money lol, but because it is a mindset that when practiced is a natural way to circumvent much of the trappings of the financial system – and in this case the fake and gay internet traffic and ad space and SEO scam market that seems to operate on a black-box monopoly to force content creators into diminishing returns of their infrastructure investment. Been there myself.

Anyhow, I am happy to take ideas from readers/admin and spend time designing the graphics/art for layout onto merchandise. I do this for other dissident/independent media operators. I can deliver eps or other format image files. I’ve got one in the hopper already.

With all the talent among the readership I am sure there is a lot of untapped potential to support in a variety of non-cash ways. May not help directly with that retirement, but in time who knows…
