DOES THIS MAKE ME A BAD PERSON?

MY SMUGNESS ANNOYS YOU. DOESN'T IT? - willy wonka - quickmeme

Running Out Of Charge In The Middle Of NOWHERE... - YouTube

Twice this week while driving to and from work on the Northeast Extension I’ve passed abandoned Teslas on the side of the road. I didn’t pass any abandoned gasoline powered cars. As I passed by these $80,000 paper weights in my eleven year old Honda Civic, with 110,000 miles on it, I couldn’t help but smile smugly. Does that make me a bad person?

Also, while driving home this week I witnessed a Tesla going about 100 mph, tailgating and zigging in and out of traffic and almost causing a few accidents. I don’t know about you, but I assume everyone who owns a Tesla is a virtue signalling prick, with no common sense, but a lot of money to waste. While watching the asshole drive his overpriced virtue mobile, I secretly hoped he might make one wrong move and plow that sucker into the retaining wall at 100 mph., with the result depicted below. Does that make me  a bad person?

NTSB: Tesla Model 3 traveling up to 90 mph before fatal Florida crash

“Yokels With Generators”
Or perhaps
“The Mobile Generation”

Install generators in gas cars and pickup trucks and provide mobile charging sevices…$500-$1,000 per “emergency” charge, you already know they can afford it. For extra insult, include a surcharge for the gas used to get the generator to them.

So … what will you and your fancy generator be doing for the 12 or more hours that it’ll take to recharge one of these TSLAs?

Ah,
How about:
The $1,000 charge is for one hour charge-time.
Each additional hour is $600?

For $600 an hour I will be kicking back enjoying my $10 per minute.

Nope, not a bad person, just short sighted.
I’m a gun toting red neck former Marine boomer, with a diesel dually, living in the western mountains, in a zip code with less than 100 people. The closest small town is 50 miles way, and the closest city (65,000) is 75 miles away.
And my other car is a model 3 Tesla. I can easily get too and from either place on one charge, I have PV and a generator to charge it, and I carry a cable with 7 different AC adapters just in case. If gas or diesel is 100$ a gallon, or unavailable, I’ll still have a car… and yes, if I need it, they are fast as hell. Also very very stealthy.
For us having an overpriced golf cart makes sense.

Maybe a hamster wheel turns his generator? But I am guessing it is powered by some kind of fossil fuel. Get a bicycle or horse if gas and diesel are over $100 per gallon!

I live in the same reality. I live in the western desert. I own a Ford F250 longbed crew cab turbodiesel and a late 90’s Jeep Wrangler. I also own a Chevy Volt. I drive the Volt to and from work. Regular gas is around $4.50/gallon where I live. A car that gets 35 MPG will cost me $9.00 each day, round trip. I charge the Volt at home and drive it to work, where I charge it again for the drive home. Total outlay for “fuel” per day; $3.00. No charger? No problem. When the battery is done, a 1.4L engine starts to provide the electricity to the motor. A that point it lives like a hybrid. The engine starts and stops as needed. I can drive it as far as any ICE car, at 35 MPG, HWY. It’s actually quite a bit higher in town. GM was truly stupid to kill the Volt…

My issue isn’t with electric cars. They have their place. My issue is with someone MANDATING that I drive one! For me, an EV makes financial sense. I’m a few years from retirement. At that point I’ll get rid of the Volt. Why? because “planned obsolescence” is baked into the cake with these vehicles. When the battery is dead, the car is junk. EV’s are like boats. You don’t want to be the final owner of one…
From then on, it’ll be ICE vehicles only for me…

Good points, I agree the Volt being killed after the massive investment GM put into it was stupid…but very much a typical GM decision. Also, being mandated that we have to use and EV for all purposes is just not the way to go, there is no way they will be all things to all people. Although, without the mandates very few would actually buy them…but the offerings need to be put into the marketplace as the technology and value is proven.

EVs in my area are good for part of the year…namely, the part that doesn’t have snow and ice and mud. The rest of the time, you need a 4 wheel drive, or an all wheel drive whatever. Even then, you sometimes need chains. Location – Boise Mountains.

Regardless of the bad ideal in question, simply questioning your consciousness proves that you have one. The only problem with that is your consciousness will compel you to take action, and no amount of action can make a stupid man smart. However, it does not take much action to transform a stupid man into a dead man. Realistically we just have to let nature take its course.
We should be thankful when they ram into retaining walls instead of into other cars, especially ones with multiple passengers.

Reminds me of all the Harvard people I’ve met over the years. When you first meet them they never go more than four sentences without letting you know they “Went to Harvard”. It’s just an excuse to cover up their mediocrity. Same goes for Teslas. Hey it’s not a terrible car and they accelerate like a banshee but the bottom line – Teslas are mediocre cars. So if you want to own one fine but pay the full price yourself – no subsidies – and put a sock in the virtue signaling and self-serving justifications. E-car owners are no better and no worse than the rest of us just as my Ivy League degree is no better or worse than a Harvard degree. People need to get over themselves.

This is probably a waste of time but here goes. Suppose I had written “E-car owners are no better or worse than the rest of us just as my high school degree is no better or worse than a Harvard degree”? It makes the same point using a different basis for comparison. It seems it’s not just woke leftists who are triggered. I have never lived in Boston but yes, I know Harvard is in the Ivy League….jeez. And the “Administrator” wonders why this site struggles despite the mostly excellent content?

There’s a quite few around here. You know what I never see? Someone behind the wheel of one with a smile on their face. They all look supremely unhappy. You’d think that spending that kind fo dough would give them some joy, but no, it’s always a sourpuss behind the wheel.

My next-door neighbor just bought a brand-new Model X, the same car as pictured in the beginning of this article. Though it stickers at over $100k, he got it at about (only!) 80k; it seems sales are a bit sluggish for Tesla at the moment. Gee I wonder why?

He and his wife are like kids with a new video game in that thing, they love it. I must admit, it’s an impressive machine; it has all kinds of whiz-bang gadgetry. Its interior is cavernous.

Tesla also threw in free charges for 3 years when using a Tesla charging station. Of course, when the electricity goes off it will not matter, free or not.

It truly is just a rich man’s toy.

‘Range Anxiety’ is a thing with these coal-burning EV drivers. Not that there’s anything wrong with coal. I like coal. I like the intense heat it gives when I burn it. I like the power it generates when burned in a power plant. I like the steel that’s made with coked coal. I like coal. We should mine and burn more of it. I like coal trains. I like coal burning steam engines that pull coal trains. Big Boy burned coal. Or used to. Burns oil now. Coal stoves are good on cold winter nights. Coal fired iron forges are cool. I like swords. Especially when made in a coal fired forge. By an English iron mongress. Saw that on TV once. She was pretty ‘hot’. You can pick up coal on the side of the road in rural Kentucky. Did that in 2009. Brought it home and burned it. Greta can kiss my ass. Clinkers are good for driveways. Wait-what? Where was I going with this? Who am I? Where’s my car?

Tesla’s have a auto breaking feature. If you cut in front of one aggressively it will stop the Tesla to let you in.
You should think kindly of any car that will let you cut in on the line of cars as you sail down to the end of the closing lane. Heck, start showing everyone this new “kindness” feature.
